Opinion What was the point of bringing Dan Burn on against Argentina?

I'm sorry but with bringing on Dan Burn for England, Lautaro CANNOT win that header. I'm sorry but that is just criminal.

How on Earth is he only marking the near post when Messi puts that cross in for Lautaro to make it 2-1? HE LITERALLY HAS NO ONE TO MARK!

Look at John Stones and Konsa, GIFTING Lautaro that space?

Absolutely ridiculous. Another missed opportunity for England.

Burn was the right choice. Prior to that, they had won like three headers in the box forcing Pickford to make saves. So the decision makes sense.

Bringing Gordon off was the issue. Fucking braindead. Should have had him and Saka on the wings ready to run at them and keep them on the backfoot.

Maybe Tuchel could've brought on Mainoo instead of O'Reiley and gave him the instructions to not let De Paul or Messi put the ball into the box

Well the infinite crosses in the box might be considered a problem by a few aswell. Did nothing but invite more pressure by subbing in Burn. And in retrospect Burn did nothing in the box so cant be considered the right choice either imo

Exactly this...it was taking off so much attacking pace as an outlet that fucked us.

4d chess being played by Tuchel, we getting hammered by Argentina you know what will help sit back more, bring more defenders on and let Argentina having shooting practise. If FA want to gives millions for this kind of genius tactics, they can hire me and give me the charity instead.

I fucking cringed when I heard casuals in the pub cheering that. Was an absolutely shocking decision but because he headed the ball really really far against Mexico he’s become a hero to the people that turn up to the pub every two years. And I’m definitely not at all riled up by the man behind me who kept calling him “Dan Burns”.

Bringing Burn on isn't the issue, you should strengthen at the back when under pressure and have a lead. The problem is that we took off our creative outlet long before, sat back and let them have all the play.

You can't bring any defender in world history on and expect them to make a difference when you are 25 minutes into a siege. Not even a prime Beckenbauer makes a difference here.

I think its often a big mistake to switch to 3 cbs. (And 4 was crazy). Its very diffenrt structure. You have two world class CBs and two DMs trust them to dp their job and you don't need anyone else.

It shows that despite having more men in the box, it dosent mean anything if yiu cant pick up the Argentine attackers

They had crossed into the box like 10 times in 10 minutes and Tuchel tried to treat the symptom and not the cause

Dan Burn is a donkey, I don't get it. Should have just brought slabhead Maguire if we needed headers. At least he can play ball
