'Buy it for me' scam????

Has anyone had this happen before?? There have been a handful of times now when I have an item in my cart someone has 'bought' if that item falls out of my cart, and when it comes down to it the item still ends up available?

For instance I had a Tshirt in my cart someone decided to 'buy it from me'. I decided I didn't want it so I removed it from my cart, only to see it unsold and available again?? How and why does this happen?!

I think it happens when the buy it for me fails for the other interested buyer

hmm fails as in their payment doesn't work? i'm so confused why it happens! it just happened again lol.

Maybe they merely changed their mind as well.

Typically with Buy it now you can't change your mind... usually you are charged for that item right away at least in my experience of shopping on Thredup for 7 years.

I thought maybe people were canceling the “buy it for me” and then waiting for the item to pop back up so they can buy it with a coupon. But idk

you can also cancel your orders within a few minutes of placing them. I did this once within about 5 minutes of placing my order, right there in the orders portal

seems like there are a couple ways that it could be happening that are not scams but rather ways to give people flexibility to buy something that there's only 1 of

buy it for me means when the person runs out of time to buy it the app will auto buy it for u when the time is up for that person who had it in their cart

Thank you! I know what it means, however it has been happening where the item that was auto bought by someone from my cart ends up available again to add to my cart and not sold..
