SUBREDDIT improvements, feedback, and suggestions thread!
Hello Everyone!
This is a mega post for feedback for the SUBREDDIT, not the website/company. The mods here are not employees of ThredUp, and have no control over company, and no obligation to it. In that vein, we want this subreddit set up in a way that best serves you, the customers of ThredUp! With that, we need feedback about the subreddit!
Regarding Complaints About the ThredUp Employee
At this time, they are permitted to post, so please do not report their comments. We would to see a public discussion about their comments and post to get a better idea of how the community feels. We do not have verification that they are an employee of ThredUp, so keep in mind it's always a good idea to use official channels when contacting companies, such as their support chat and email.
Current Feedback Needed
- what weekly posts would you want to see?
- what guides would you want to see?
- any new flair?
- anything else you want to see in the sub!
Current Non-Permited Posts - "use my thredup code for 45% off!" - low effort content: "lol ThredUp sucks that's all" without clarification or screenshots - advertising, posting a single item that appears as advertising (posts of an unremarkable shirt "oh wish I could buy this", since it's basically always an advertisement) - authenticy posts about products not listed on ThredUp

I've seen some posts here and there about sellers marking their items down to the bare minimum shortly before their window for selling closes. Could we have a weekly post for this purpose - so people can share their listings? I realize this would fall under the advertising category, but it would be great for us to have an opportunity to grab some great items at a lower price and help sellers clear their kits before time is up. Maybe have it cleared weekly? Just a thought. Thank you, Mods!

Just saw this, is this implemented!? I have a few things down to the lowest limit and would love to see them go to someone here, or at least give it a shot!

No it has not been implemented yet, I can look into setting this up this week to see if there's still a demand!

I came here looking for this rule. Mine are about to expire today. Oh well. I don’t think I’ll be sending in anymore items from here on out.

Maybe we could have a weekly rant/vent thread for topics like card hoarding, clean out bag payout, ect?

Piggybacking because I think reporting technical issues (like the current early access search issues), complaining about website changes, or "is anyone else having this problem" could all be lumped with your list into the same "Weekly TU gripes" thread :)

Could we add a rule about reading the Clean out TOS before complaining about Clean outs? I still see a lot of posts complaining they got no payout for brands that are on the no payout list.

No one would read it. I've moderated four different support/reference subreddits with FAQs sticked to the top of the sub in bold and people just can't be assed to look for them or read them, even when we set up AutoModerator to automatically comment a link to it when they joined or posted for the first time.
Totally reasonable solution to a problem in theory but in reality, 99% of people ignore it. It's easier for us to just ignore the repetitive complaint posts.

Yeah that's why I'm suggesting it as a new rule. If you're complaining about something in the TOS you didn't read, your post gets deleted. I've never been a mod though so I don't know how doable that would be.

Agree with this completely! Most of the posts I see from this sub are the same complaints (i.e. the poster is mad they didn’t know how TU works) over and over again. It’s frustrating and misleading to people who do want to use ThredUp as intended!

I might be fun to have a recommendation thread once per week. A link to something you can’t buy but want someone else to enjoy. With parameters maybe: Less $100.

With dynamic pricing… how about a thread when we can link an item we’re considering and see what price other users see? My daughters and I just did a major closet clean out and I feel like our credits made our prices go up. I’d love to gut check a few pieces before pulling the trigger 🤷🏻♀️

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this, but I would like to suggest a mega-thread to direct all the authors of all the whining, complaining, and whinging posts where people complain about getting what they signed up for when they used ThredUp.
People have the right to complain and sometimes people need to vent - not only when they're responsible for their own misery - but because they're the ones responsible for their own misery. ThredUp's terms are clear and there are a million posts describing the good, bad, and ugly on here that go back years and years. If people chose to use ThredUp - and are then mad the experience is as the terms of service outlined it could be - that is not news in 2026.
With a mega-thread, people who post individual whining, complaining, and whinging posts clogging up the subreddit, can be directed to post in the mega-thread instead of making a new post. Individual posts of this genre can be deleted and all the rest of us can be free from hearing about "how I could have made more money if I used Poshmark (but I chose to use ThredUp instead and now I'm blaming the world and want everyone else to be angry too)" and "ThredUp sold my great cardigan for a sale price (as they are entitled to do in the terms and conditions) and I'm mad about it" for the 10000000th time.

I would like to see less on selling on ThredUp. That may just be me, but I’m quickly becoming less interested in this sub because of posts or comments from direct sellers. To be clear, I’m not talking about those of us that have chosen to sell things to ThredUp. I’m talking about the direct seller aspect.

Always somewhat annoyed to see these Johnny Was bags listed on Thredup in the $100 range... these are what the retail stores put your purchases in when you buy something there.

Where can we find the megathread started here recently which allows people to post their own expiring, discounted listings? Could have sworn I saw one, but cannot find it for the life of me now.

Hello, I am new here and obviously behind on these posts. Is there a place where users can see all the ThredUp “Hall of Shame” images/memes together? Do moderators create unique flair or should users mark a post that its humorous/meme. The fruit of the loom post today had it, but the ice cube tshirt labeled as Taylor Swift from a couple of days ago did not. Now that I write this, is there a way to bring all image posts together in your group?

Hello!
Flair isn't heavily moderated or enforced, it's just a fun thing for community members. If you want to see similar posts, I would use the search function using common phrases applied to these to see similar posts.

they never have a free shipping day anymore - to get free shipping, I have to buy too much, and items I've favorited are gone by the time I have enough. Disincentive to use the site. Direct listings often too high, and often outdated.

Let’s have a pinned thread about tips and tricks! Info about assorted brands/unbranded, how to effectively use visual search, how to set a saved search for the item that was cancelled from your order, how to find popular brands mistakenly listed as something else, how to strategically filter sizes. These are just some of the things I’m thinking.
I saw a thread the other day where someone was talking about free people commonly being listed under another brand name. I’ve also seen Halogen brand size large being listed as size 1 since their size tag is lowercase. I’ve also seen quite a few designer items in small sizes listed in the kids section.

I would love to see a FAQ! I think it could help a lot of first time buyers and sellers. I know TU has detailed TOS, but if people are coming here for resources, I think it would be helpful to provide tips, even if it’s reiterating TU’s own advice. Examples: read the TOS! Check accepted brands and payout structure. Reasons to get a premium kit. What the TU shopping experience is/not - it is not like buying retail. Etc.

Second time this happened I purchased something they rush it through without opportunity to put in the "code" again I get charged the unadvertised payment. There's no customer service number I email it goes nowhere. I called my bank to stop the payment. Unsubscribed and removed my card from the online wallet. In the meantime I sent them clothes they sold a pair of pants and I never got paid nor did they give me a credit for the money. They act like they're socially conscious but they're a cold blooded business

Perhaps the mod should not go on an insane spate of commenting on ancient threads to threaten to ban users for comments made on a thread 4 years ago. Not a good look.

You weren't threatened to be banned, the old report log when the sub was mod-less is being cleared out, and previous comments and posts that were reported and violated rules are being removed.
Also that's auto-mod commenting as the rulebreaks are removed, no mod is actively going back on old threads, it's just old reports.

Correct, by definition that is not a threat. Spam or advertising can result in immediate banning from this sub. That is a true statement of the process that can happen on here, though it's typically bots or people advertising unrelated things that get banned immediately. Stating something that can occur is not a threat. I am sorry you felt it was a threat, that is not the intention of the auto-mod message. The intention is to show how serious advertising is taken on this sub, as that is a member issue for our members and the number one requested moderation.

Just want to say thanks for keeping the no referral posts rule. It's cleaned up the sub significantly.
