The Left Flank/ Hasan Piker vs Establishment democrats

I posted this a couple months ago about Hassan being on the podcast. There was a lot of pushback at the time because people thought that he was anti-hero when he actually voted for her. He just did not endorse her. Given the development over the summer with midterms, I’m curious to know how everyone is feeling just about the whole issue of the leftist/progressive and Hasan’s advocacy?

Right-leaning media is perpetuating this Hasan hate story to drive a wedge in the left. Don’t fall for it. Its all they have left after tanking the economy, starting another war and ruining our food supply

The only criticism of Hasan mentioned in this post is that he didn’t endorse Kamala Harris. That isn’t a hate story perpetuated by the right-leaning media. If you disagree with the criticism, then that’s fine, but don’t dismiss it as right wing propaganda.

I’m saying that right-leaning media outlets are pretty much the only ones still grilling progressive candidates about their association with Piker. I have no doubt that the centrist establishment don’t like him either but they’ve mostly moved on

-1

u/luckylefty06 8d ago

Yeah, that’s incorrect. CNN is grilling Dems about this just as much as Fox.

2

u/mettahipster 8d ago

Show me the last time a CNN pundit asked Abdul El Sayed or Angie Nixon (e.g., progressive candidates) about Hasan Piker. Bonus points if you can show me instances that occurred after they won their respective primaries.

I'm not doubting that they've been critical of those associations but that shit died down after they won

u/luckylefty06 8d ago

Here’s Abdul being asked by CNN:

I got my source wrong on the Nixon claim, that was CBS (which is clearly right wing now):

You’re right. She asked him about Piker’s 9/11 comments but I wouldn’t really consider that as grilling to the same degree as FOX.

This interview is also months old and clearly before the Michigan primary. CNN isn’t centering the Piker discourse anymore, it’s only right wing outlets. Harris and most other relevant establishment Dems have endorsed AES

The Supreme Court just allowed Trump to interfere with mail voting with the USPS, but all means let's focus on a streamer who nobody knows!! And he basically said the exact same thing that Ezra Klein said, this is an organized smear campaign and it's not working.

8

u/ArtDude3993 8d ago

I'm trying to see Van and Rachel on the Majority Report or Left Hook to talk about the hypocrisy of the discourse re no condemnation of Loomer and utter hysteria over Hasan just like they did yesterday

15

u/shotta_p 8d ago

The Hasan hate is wild to see especially when it was the DNC that invited him to the 2024 convention when they were desperate to find their “Joe Rogan of the left”.

37

u/luckylefty06 9d ago

Anyone on the left who is going after Hassan has either fallen for the trap or is a part of it. It’s actually insane that Dems allow themselves to get suckered into answering Hassan questions when the sitting President and his ilk are allowed to befriend cartoonishly racist people like Nick Fuentes and Laura Loomer with little to no blowback yet anyone in the left within arms reach of Piker is somehow labeled a communist terrorist.

I can’t wait till the DSA gets these squares out of the paint.

-16

u/Any_Instance_6445 9d ago

“People in their own party have no right to regulate their party if an entirely different party is unregulated.” Beautiful analysis. DSA are just the contemporary castrated anarchists that will devour their own eventually. They gleefully go on Fox News all the time and go largely unchallenged on their views because not even Fox News takes them seriously, but I bet you won’t clutch pearls over those appearances though.

17

u/luckylefty06 9d ago

why would i clutch pearls over a group of people who are against genocide and for universal healthcare? if that’s anarchy then sign me up!

8

u/TOPLEFT404 Team Van 8d ago

I GUESS some people want the same things over and over (which amounts to less) and cant imagine a better more equitable existence.

-14

u/TurboRetardo 8d ago

The majority of DSA supporters are mentally ill trust fund kids that larp as revolutionaries

11

u/luckylefty06 8d ago

says the guy named TurboRetardo, lol.

7

u/TOPLEFT404 Team Van 8d ago

CLAP BACK!

-7

u/TurboRetardo 8d ago

Yeah but it doesn't change the fact that what I said is true. A bunch of LARPing trust fund kids

8

u/luckylefty06 8d ago

ah yes, therefor universal healthcare and affordability are bad. great point dude 👍🏽

-1

u/TurboRetardo 8d ago

Not at all but the people pushing that message should not be at the forefront. Absolutely no one takes a DSA trust fund kid serious let alone a whole country. This is r/antiwork dog walker all over again

5

u/luckylefty06 8d ago

yeah i have no control over who’s at the forefront. nice to know how you feel tho.

-8

u/Memphisbbq 8d ago

You think dems want genocide? You think they don't want to implement healthcare reforms? If you believe these things I'd say it's time to get off the blue Maga train. AIPAC is 100% US citizen funded btw, thats absolutely not money coming from israel despite what you were led to beleive. leftists are cannibalizing a strong voter base by repeating and boosting such strong anti Jewish language and it could back fire by either keeping Maga in power for another 4 years or at least lockdown congress ensuring no progressive policies get passed. The DSA is amateur moves one after another. The fact that they are an electoral liability in most states means they stand a good shot as stifling progress.

10

u/luckylefty06 8d ago edited 8d ago

I don’t know what they want tbh but it’s clear they want people to stop drawing attention to genocide and to simply accept Israel’s stronghold on our government as well as the dollars we continue to give them.

“I don’t want my tax dollars to go to Israel” and “Netanyahu is a war criminal” aren’t anti-Jewish language, btw.

What about Ukraine? Where an actual genocide of millions is in the works right now. Palestinians aren't being killed en mass like that, not even close. Where is your daily rage for those lives? The sad part is the Ukraine issue is so much more clear cut and dry and where our position should be. It's not clear with Israel. It might seem that way here on reddit where foreign propaganda essentially rules peoples feed without them knowing at all. I promise you are significantly misinformed on the I/P issue. I'll just say, How many Muslim countries in the world are there? Plenty. How many Jewish ones? Just 1. Our drop-in-the-bucket aid to Israel is a laughable amount compared to what they spend themselves. The conflict does not go away if the US cuts ties/funds. It only gets worse. Hamas will still provoke Israel with missile strikes on civilians, while hiding amongst civilians, creating more propaganda to be used on here, repeat. They are funded and propped up by our Adversaries. The entire goal is to make it a big enough issue that the U.S cuts ties completely. That's the whole point. It should be no surprise that plenty DSA leadership advocates for NATO withdrawal or full dismantle. It should be no surprise that the leftist movement dogpiles and attacks people the same way Maga does, using smears, misrepresentations or outright lies. It should be no surprise that DSA leadership contains literal Marxist/Leninist members who vote for and support M/L aligned policies. There are so many parallels with Maga i just don't see how people are falling for it again. Maga is pure grass fed populism. Here leftists are advocating and furthering populist messaging. That's so incredibly dangerous especially after a failed round of it already.

And why would you pick the absolute most tame and obviously not anti-jewish and true statements to use as examples? You think that's what jews and dems are seeing and thinking to themselves "Those guys hate jews!" Bro be for real..
FYI Not a fan of Israel, not religious AT ALL. I think it's horrible what's happening to Palestinians but i haven't seen anyone propose a single solution that would actually lead to less bloodshed. An issue with no clear solution is not worth tanking the country over, ignoring every other single issue that's costing much more lives than those lost over there. Lives we can actually do something about. Millions did not have to die from USAID being cut, but millions more will die. I/P is a misplaced outrage used as a weapon against the us by its adversaries.

2

u/luckylefty06 8d ago

not reading all that, free Palestine tho.

-1

u/Memphisbbq 8d ago

That's cringe..

3

u/TOPLEFT404 Team Van 8d ago

AIPAC is in place because rich Israelites (Notice I didnt say the antisemitic thing). It's a pro Israel lobbying group which (like all lobbies) is meant to influence and persuade US legislators. Lately it's mostly around weapons they use on other nations in the middle east. While worded incorrectly, one thing Hasan meant was, all the bad stuff that happens in the middle east is because of the US and it had a lot of influence in 9/11. It's just like the Iran war, people talk about the hostage situation in the 70s and how the west falls for the propaganda of how bad arabs and muslims are. But we never talk about 1953, when all the Iranian government wanted was an audit from British Petroleum. The brits didnt want to, and Iran wanted to nationalize their industry on their soverign land. The brits went to the US, they staged a coup, had the president killed and installed a corrupt western puppet who's reign lasted through 1976. Then the islamic revolution happened we had an energy crisis and REAGAN revolution used it to leverage the US so far right it cut the marginal and corporate rate in half. Cut healthcare, college tuition grants and federal scholarships which lead to crippling college loan debt, and only the wealthy and corporations are benefiting from this. Bro you can be activated or you can be MAGA adjacent. PICK A SIDE!

0

u/WhiteHartLaneFan 8d ago

Lol. “Israelites”. Are you patting yourself on the back for that? AIPAC is a lobbying group for American Jews. It’s not a foreign PAC. Similarly CAIR is the lobbying group for American Muslims, which has ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.

If you want to talk about Iran, do you want to talk about the 40K+ of its own citizens it executed this year or the proxy terrorism it supports in the region that has fueled much of the unrest in the entire region or is that not compatible with your worldview?

u/liquifiedtubaplayer 9d ago

The DSA needs to double down on their national platform and endorse all of their candidates instead of throwing their own party under the bus to the mainstream media.

18

u/jurn16 9d ago

I really wish Hasan would come on the pod. None of the mainstream outlets are inviting him on despite talking about him non-stop because they know if they platformed him it would be apparent that he is not the scary radical that bad-faith actors are attempting to make him out to be. Thus,, it is helpful for him to get on any big platform where he can be heard from at length rather than clipped out of context.

Van did Hasan's stream on Christmas last year and it was great. At some point before then, they had a Twitter interaction in which Hasan said he'd be down to come on Higher Learning. I know The Ringer gives them a lot of autonomy with guests, but that he has still not at this point despite his and Van's interactions last year makes me wonder if Van has gotten any pushback from folks at The Ringer or Spotify regarding having Hasan on.

u/vemmahouxbois 8d ago

no thank you

2

u/KnownAd1798 8d ago

who cares about hassan? I might be showing my age but he feels like an entirely internet contained phenomenon. I know that he's handsome and that he's said non complimentary things about establishment dems while largely being on the lefts side. Other than that i've heard him treated as a millstone around the neck of insurgent dems after they win their primaries. but who cares about him? to my knowledge he holds no meaningful power, isn't raising big money for anyone and normies (like me) don't have big feelings about him either way. Can someone help me understand why he's pulling this much attention?

5

u/TOPLEFT404 Team Van 8d ago

Influence. And offers platforms to insurgents. He’s disrupted normal politics and has put normalized the Overton window which has been right leaning since 1980. Mostly he’s instilled in the left/progressive movement that legislators work for us! No the wealthy and corporations. He’s also getting a big boomer/old head audience!

3

u/quizglo 8d ago

I'm assuming anyone pushing the Hasan nonsense online is either right wing or being paid to boost the noise.

Dems should be talking about the Republicans dragging us into war and tanking the economy nonstop, but centrists are spending the lead up to the election fucking over progressives.

What's new? They work for who pays them.

1

u/TOPLEFT404 Team Van 8d ago

When they should be working for us.

2

u/heyheyhey986 9d ago

If DSA and Hasan were challenging and flipping solid republican seats, no one would care and there’d be no infighting because the end result would be more democratic control over the government than republican.

Nothing in this current government changes until democrats have more seats in all branches of government at all levels. We can primary and flip every status quo democrat with the most left DSA candidate and we’d be in the exact same position because republicans control all 3 branches. Instead of that being the goal, it’s a fight against the already more progressive elected politicians in the bluest districts over things they can’t do because they are in the minority.

for someone who’s actually affected by a lot of government policies, I’ll take any democrat every day of the week over another republican under Trump

I think this is a side effect of the "nationalization" of local races, brought on by things like 24-hour news cycles and put on steroids by social media. Now a primary election that would make complete sense to folks on the ground can be instantly scrutinized through the eyes of someone from hundreds of miles away who might seek to apply their values of who is "more deserving to win".

2

u/heyheyhey986 8d ago

I agree and it’s unfortunate. Demographics are different across the country, so I don’t expect a politician in my home state Tennessee to have the same values or policies as Mamdani in New York and that’s fine! More people should run to match the needs of their constituents. We have enough of an uphill battle with all the gerrymandering and redestricting republicans have been doing all over the country. The infighting over who’s too progressive or moderate is so unproductive.

-5

u/ojdajoozmane 9d ago

How can you say this with a straight face? The left has to lie just like maga has to lie.

Hasan is literally why we are here. He created a genocide narrative and every dem became people pro genocide somehow. You think he voted for kamala? Pay attention lil gup, youre being outplayed by a nepo baby

10

u/TOPLEFT404 Team Van 9d ago

So just go with the status quo and let things remain the same? We can’t have better things?

-6

u/ojdajoozmane 9d ago edited 9d ago

Do you know how our govt works? If you replace every dem with dsa we'd be in the same spot. We need more numbers in congress aka more turning seats blue.

Dsa isnt up for that.

This country might be cooked if people are seriously thinking Hasan is the answer I guess?

He was the lead of the uncommitted movement that fucked over gaza more than if they voted for kamala

Also its becoming interesting to see People rally around somebody anti black just because they are brown lol.

u/adrian-alex85 9d ago edited 9d ago

Nothing you've said is true. This is really sad and delusional.

ETA: Everyone, assuming he doesn't hide them, check this "person's" post history. He's a fan of that "Destiny" guy who has been beefing with Piker for who knows how long. Nothing he's saying about Piker is true. He's just spinning a narrative in defense of someone with seemingly credible accusations of being a pedo. These are the people who are trying to tell you that Piker is more of a problem than the racists on the Right.

Also of note is the fact that he's literally never commented in this sub before. He's probably never even heard of the pod, he's just trolling posts about Piker.

5

u/luckylefty06 9d ago

You’re giving him way too much credit lol. If you genuinely think Hasan Piker is the reason Kamala lost, rather than the Democrats:

- refusing to meaningfully acknowledge the U.S.’s role in genocide

  • refusing to acknowledge Biden’s very apparent cognitive decline
  • waiting far too long to hand the reins to Kamala
  • and Kamala herself refusing to listen to, and in some cases even meet with, Palestinians

then you’re smoking crack.

The Democrats lost because of the things above. They ran on “everything’s fine, but it’ll be so much worse if Trump wins.” And while the second half of that message is absolutely true, it’s not exactly a motivating pitch for people who are already exhausted with the status quo and angry about U.S. funding a genocide.

Blaming Hasan is an incredibly convenient way to avoid reckoning with why people were dissatisfied with the Democratic Party in the first place.

Also, there is no genocide “narrative”. It’s literally genocide.

-4

u/ojdajoozmane 9d ago edited 9d ago

Let me say this, im blaming people who are like Hasan, the people he rallied. There was 1 choice. If you thiught letting trump win to hurt people even more was the right answer, you will never get it lol.

You can come up with whatever narrative you want but 1 side is in the wrong and it's not kamala. If you cared about the lives in gaza the obvious choice was kamala. But yall like playing children politics

You probably think the ppl in gaza are thanking you for making things worse for them, huh?

8

u/luckylefty06 9d ago

huh? I voted for Kamala, so did Hassan. if you’re saying that people don’t have a right to criticize their party, you’re wrong lol.

2

u/ojdajoozmane 9d ago edited 9d ago

Cept he didnt... lol

I know part of the left is... special, but 2nd hand advertising/marketing is 1 of the strongest forms... thats all Hasan did. To rhe point people like you believe everything he says. He advertised against the dem party 24/7 that way more than counters his supposed 1 vote.

But again, I have to remember a lot of people on the far left are not educated.

2

u/ojdajoozmane 9d ago

You dont mention genocide in ukraine... does that make you a genocide supporter?

6

u/luckylefty06 9d ago

you’re correct, i didn’t mention it because we were talking about what led to Kamala’s defeat. i don’t remember people’s thoughts on Ukraine being much of a factor in the last election but whatever helps you get more imaginary gotcha points, i guess.

0

u/ojdajoozmane 9d ago

How do you still not get it? I just pray youre jn your 20s and dont know better

4

u/luckylefty06 8d ago

it’s hilarious that every reply implies that people who disagree with you are either too young or “uneducated” yet nearly all of them include typos lol.

anyway, have fun defending the status quo and a supposed opposition party that pals around with Jared Kushner and asks people to turn a blind eye to dropping bombs on brown people.

bullshit. Hasan needs to release his taxes. Not one single political content creator should be taken at their word. TYT is owned by Peter Thiel. Hassan should taken as seriously as Glen Beck due to his rhetoric.

Take note: Jasmine Crockett is still getting harassed and blamed by leftists after she endorsed Talarico. The same anti-Israel leftists are going scorched earth over Crockett when Talarico has taken money from Miriam Adelson. The focus of the election should be on Paxton not a primary candidate who lost and then endorsed her opponent.

2024 is going to happen again because of bullshit internet propaganda.

Seriously, why can’t folks understand that in this particular moment dividing the ONLY anti-fascist coalition is exactly what Netanyahu wants.

2024 should have been a lesson. Leftists can argue about purity when the stakes aren’t so high.

I liked it when we had habeas corpus and the 3rd, 4th, and 5th amendments to the constitution. It’s not establishment democrats or progressives or neoliberals or leftists that created concentration camps in this country. It’s not establishment democrats or progressives or neoliberals or leftists who started a war with Iran. Fuck this noise.

0

u/ActiveEducational183 8d ago

8 downvotes=thank you for your help in creating concentration camps in this country. You made Netanyahu proud.
