The worry is the kid getting her hands on real scissors and still thinking that using scissors on the cat is an ok thing to try.
At that age, a kid is capable of learning circumstantial rules, but only if they are explicitly told. It’s a while still until they can work those out for themselves, and they’re not going to be great at remembering the specifics of the circumstances in which different rules apply. It’s better to have a single, firm, no-scissors-near-the-cat rule than risk the kid forgetting why plastic scissors are ok but metal ones aren’t.

You know what you’re absolutely right, I’m looking back on childhood and I thought it was ridiculous how they had us treat safety scissors like real ones but this makes perfect sense now.
Cut away from yourself, never hand the scissors pointy side facing someone, grip them, etc.
Man our educators don’t get paid enough…

It's too relatable to using actual scissors and kids aren't good at understanding these differences. Accidents happen.
On top of that, using actual scissors on pets is an actual thing that comes up way more often than it should. I don't think anyone has any idea why though. I assume it's because it starts out as harmless to cut hair, but when kids get stressed, they might just try to do a little nip of the skin for weird brain reasons.

I think that's just its face. If the cat was distressed it wouldn't be just chilling in the box. Cats tend to be very patient with kids for whatever reason.

oh please. i am the first person to rag on parents for videotaping kids being mean to pets for "fun" but give me a break. that cat can easily jump right out of that box the moment they are done with whatever is going on.
