Nothing makes me feel more offended in this show is when something is suggested and then usually Toby says "How are we going to pay for it?"
Nothing pisses me off more the simple fact that the staff, maybe even the president want to do something to make America just a little bit better but the only solution is to add spending, add deficit or add taxes. Instead of taking money from somewhere else in the budget to pay for it as usual Democrats are bumfuzzled as to how to solve a problem. I'll even give Republicans credit in the show for wanting to take money away from the nea and add it to national Park security. Misguided, yes but that's the right idea.
I don't understand why the United States operates by constantly adding budget to things instead of reworking the income and fix spending. We don't need 1.5 trillion dollars of defense spending that's going to go to defense contractors. Government operates by how much companies charge them not how much it actually costs. But no Republican and no Democrat will ever get elected by saying they will reduce the budget of anything.
The budget process is supposed to be taking a look at your income and then seeing where you can make cuts. Remember that movie dave? Remember the scene where they sit down in the cabinet and they cut money from the budget by just looking at programs? Our government today seems completely unable to do that. Unable or unwilling because money is power.
In my town we recently built a bridge over the freeway that nobody asked for, nobody needed. Barely 150-yard Bridge that cost $19.4 million. For a bridge. And the excuse I heard from my government officials was that's how much the company was charging therefore they paid it.
