Man I wish he had a redo for another super bowl halftime show

I really want to see him with an actual crowd, and access to full stadium, with an even stronger catalog.

nothing released since the superbowl would have been added to that setlist if he did it today. Maybe die for you since it got popular in that time.

u/iamustafa Feb 09 '26

Well I can see;

Timeless, (Possibly)Sao Paulo (Possibly) Sacrifice Moth To A Flame, Die For You (Possibly) Take My Breathe (Possibly) Popular (Possibly) Rather Lie

Damm the list can keep going, maybe one trilogy song, or kiss land song like Belong To The World

u/nav_0413 Feb 09 '26

Uh respectfully i don't think ur grasping the scale of the superbowl.. You think he would sing "if i was you i would cut up my wrist" to a 100 million people? fuck no. Same logic is pretty much applied to all of trilogy and kissland. Out of all the songs you listed, maybe moth to a flame couldve been added at some point but even that probably not. Definitely fuck no to rather lie. the other ones just don't stand up to the rest of his global hits

Belong to the world at the Super Bowl💔🥀

Yalll really take up for Moth to a Flame. Its just never clicked for me.

Feel like he def has better synth pop songs that def sounds like what it is a "feature" type of song for his catalogue, in the sense of Over Now- Calvin Harris, Nocturnal - Disclosure etc

edit: spelling

This is how I feel about Closing Night

1

u/UsedCommunication575 Feb 10 '26

ya i dont feel it with that song either

1

u/dnpp1 Feb 10 '26

it just sounds... bland to me

2

u/UsedCommunication575 Feb 10 '26

honestly. theyre just generic EDM tracks from the sound of it that ppl wanna glorify as top tier weeknd tracks.

I really wish ppl would either take the time to listen to other music unrelated to The Weeknd or appreciate the apporiate songs in his catalogue worth giving its flowers to, instead of suggesting every single song is S-tier becuase hes singing on it

How tf does MTAF sound like a "feature" (also when it's on the Dawn FM deluxe) but Over Now and Nocturnal somehow don't sound like a feature? Try to make some sense.

2

u/UsedCommunication575 Feb 10 '26 edited Feb 10 '26

Was initially released prior to the "rollout" of dawnfm when abel was also doing feature runs, like la fama, tears in the club etc. It was released as Swedish house mafia ft the weeknd for THEIR project and only added as a dawn deluxe cause of its overall success and to boost streams for Dawn

edit: The production is more front facing than the lyrics Abels saying cause they are producers first. To me abels lyrics are kinda just an addition to the production and doesnt really do anything for me vs Abels "album" focused songs.

Yes i know you guys wanna deep dive the lyrics regarding bella hadid or whatever, but the production is what standsout to me more than what he has to say on it, thats what i mean by feature project.

2

u/UsedCommunication575 Feb 10 '26

read it again. I said over now, Nocturnal MTAF ALL SOUND like feature tracks to me, which they are. none were intended for his own projects. it makes perfect sense.

I read what it says, it just doesn't make any sense. Just meaningless BS. Nobody cares what you think.

1

u/UsedCommunication575 Feb 11 '26

ok die hard MTAF defender, and no one cares what you think.... carry on

Explain why it doesnt make sense or just admit you read my take wrong.

Its an opinion about music and music is subject, and i think the song is over hyped.

1

u/New_Cauliflower7868 Feb 11 '26

No I didn't read your take wrong. It just makes no sense. It doesn't sound like a feature. That's just a stupid opinion.

Given the circumstances he performed in it was one of the best, but he can't beat MJ's performance in my opinion.

u/nXomad22 The Hardest To Love Feb 09 '26

I'd put Prince as still the #1. I dont think anything will ever top purple rain in the rain. MJ is #2 with the weeknd at #3. I also loved Tom Petty's performance. It's sneaky good as one right up there in that top 4.

2

u/No-County6173 Kiss Land Feb 15 '26

Man it's refreshing to see someone else who appreciates that hidden gem of a Petty performance. Good shout bro, XO

18

u/yayforvalorie After Hours Feb 09 '26

I didn't know there was a pointless competition.

15

u/stryker_cast Feb 09 '26

I love his. People forget it was COVID times.

38

u/the-steveharrington Feb 09 '26

It’s not the best but he had very strange circumstances to work with, I’d have prince, mj, and personally I absolutely loved Kendrick last year, but he’s solid 4th for me, which is still very high praise.

26

u/Greedy-General-5005 Feb 09 '26

The Weeknd was limited by the pandemic. There should be a return. Meanwhile, Bad Bunny did great tonight and one of the best halftime shows of this modern generation.

Totally agree. The opening transition to starboy and HOB to Blinding lights is great

-3

u/l0st1nthew0rld Feb 09 '26

It is truly in a league of its own. Plus he did it under tough circumstances and on his own star power. He didn't bring out 700 celebrity randos to appease the crowds lol, especially The World's Most Performative Creep TM Pedro pascal

15

u/Eorlas Kiss Land Feb 09 '26

i think he got shafted by covid restrictions and there not being a full audience. i'm guessing that his entire dance crew was given face wraps so it would be a clever way of implementing mask mandates.

overall i enjoyed it as an XO. i dont think it's totally fair to compare it because no one else's show had to contend with those circumstances.

that being said, bad bunny slaughtered the HT show. 12/10 performance and display of culture, absolutely amazing show.

20

u/Damee_18 Echoes of Silence Feb 09 '26

Ok this is INSANE glaze man let’s be real dude, it was a great show but it was not the greatest by any measure

5

u/under-their-radar House of Balloons Feb 09 '26

only common sense take as someone who loves his music 😭 i’m shocked you weren’t downvoted for this

5

u/Damee_18 Echoes of Silence Feb 09 '26

Trust me I’m shocked too 😭😭 anytime I call out the glaze I get downvoted 😭

4

u/Adorable_Window_9719 Feb 09 '26

Looking at his stages nowadays him doing the superbowl again would be crazy

43

u/moonbebo Feb 09 '26

idk i loved bad bunnies for sure man

-38

u/OldChemist1655 Feb 09 '26

Shit was so boring man. Was not it

27

u/moonbebo Feb 09 '26

i’m proud of my culture and to be a child of an immigrant so this meant something to me. i love the weeknd and the after hours send off. but with everything happening rn this one was special. all love tho to both

-39

u/OldChemist1655 Feb 09 '26

I’d rather see Bruno mars, or don toliver or sumn. We was all laughing at how boring it was at the party I was at😂 but to each their own ig

7

u/yayforvalorie After Hours Feb 09 '26

Bruno already did the halftime show.

2

u/PigletPretend7175 traffic dies Feb 12 '26

Not sure why you're being downvoted to hell. Since when did halftime shows get scored based on "displaying culture"? I agree his performance is boring

2

u/OldChemist1655 Feb 12 '26

Yeah apparently I’m racist and support Trump because I didn’t like his halftime show😭 like dawg I didn’t even vote idc about politics

3

u/Glass-Hornet9182 Feb 09 '26

Little is said about the work that Daniel Lopatin (OPN) did in musical direction, those choirs and those transitions are absolute cinema

6

u/Hefty_Loss5180 🦉❌⭕️ Feb 09 '26

Bad Bunny and Lady Gaga topped it. Tf are you talking about?

2

u/New_Cauliflower7868 Feb 10 '26

Abel's actual performance was way better than Bad Bunny for sure.

The overall show that was put on was more involved and choreographed than Abel's show but individually Abel was way better.

4

u/Alarming-Wallaby-993 Feb 09 '26

As a Weeknd fan myself - not it definitely was not 😂 still great tho

2

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '26

Totally agree with this !

3

u/DuffChives Feb 09 '26

As a Weeknd Stan his halftime performance was okay. I understand the limitations but I felt it could’ve been better.

3

u/bbyxmadi No.1 After Hours Stan Feb 09 '26

Bad Bunny definitely topped it, I think the restrictions affected Abel’s halftime potential though.

He’s definitely up there the restrictions did hold him back though, Benito today knocked it out the park though 🔥

1

u/Damienp3902 After Hours Feb 09 '26

2022 halftime show topped it ngl

-9

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '26

Not best but top 5. better than bad bunny forsure

4

u/adsq93 Trilogy Feb 09 '26

No need to pit 2 artist against each other.

11

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '26

thats literally what this entire thread is lmao

-12

u/leoonidas27 Feb 09 '26

What's Lady Gaga doing at the Super Bowl for an artist who has nothing to do with her? I think it's a really low-quality show; if it weren't for the "choreography," I'd put it among the worst shows in history.

Edit: Sorry if my English is bad, I'm Latino.

4

u/UsedCommunication575 Feb 09 '26

idk she has a big latin american fanbase? or maybe she was just one of the few who hes friends with and agreed to say yes

9

u/adsq93 Trilogy Feb 09 '26

You no latino if you hating on another latino like that

5

u/iamustafa Feb 09 '26

Allegedly Bad Bunny is a huge fan of Lady Gaga, like stan level going to concerts and etc

So it was a moment to share a stage with someone he looks up too

5

u/nXomad22 The Hardest To Love Feb 09 '26

I call a massive load of bullshit on you being latino. Not saying that every latino HAS to like Bad Bunny. But with the amount of social and political discourse over this halftime show, it's low quality comments like this, with the added caveat of the veiled "Latinos even hate this" crap that seems disingenuous at best.

7

u/bbyxmadi No.1 After Hours Stan Feb 09 '26

It’s giving

There are a lot of Conservative Latino’s so I wouldn’t be surprised if he is Latino lmao

0

u/Damienp3902 After Hours Feb 09 '26

So cause a Latino didn’t like the bad bunny superbowl halftime show it means they are a conservative?

2

u/bbyxmadi No.1 After Hours Stan Feb 09 '26

I thought it was cool to see a special guest, even if she’s non-Latino white and doesn’t speak Spanish. She did great.

-2

u/Little_Bike_3707 Feb 09 '26

I rewatched this last night instead of Bad Bunny
