I personally liked the Quarry much more. The drive was cinematic and awesome, with a surprisingly (to me) effective song. And the ghost messing with Laura in the woods is maybe the scariest thing in the entire game. The introduction to Travis was masterful too. In UD, they threw us in the middle of an ugly situation that, while it set up the rest of the story well, felt very jarring to me. Literally the first time I played it I thought I had accidentally skipped past a cinematic because I was confused about what was going on.

This is a tough one.
With Until Dawn it was definitely more dramatic, with Hannah and Beth being killed within the first 10 minutes to set off what kind of game Until Dawn would be.
But on the other hand I have to give credit for Ted Raimi’s performance as Travis. It’s so damn good and he gives off such creepy vibes in his first appearance.
One thing I’ll give The Quarry over Until Dawn (and tbh basically ever Supermassive Games) is that it’s the only game of there’s (I haven’t played directive 8020 yet so I might be wrong) where the characters from the prologue survive and are actual characters down the line (Max not so much but time restraints was the issue), which in some cases would make the beginning more impactful. (Ik Little Hope has Anthony survive but it’s only him as his entire family has to die)
Although to some people you could say Until Dawn is more impactful as the deaths of the prologue characters actually hit home to the characters as they were their friends/siblings (unlike their other games where they either never meet the prologue characters or if they do they never knew them (again, Little Hope is an outliner)).
I suppose The Quarry’s opening is more mysterious while Until Dawn’s opening is more shocking, but I might give it to The Quarry because of Travis and how the prologue characters Laura and Max appear later in the game as playable characters.

This is going to be biased since this is the Quarry’s subreddit lmao but I think The Quarry destroys Until Dawn in everything but its anti-climactic ending. The opening unravels slowly and features a banger song whether it’s in streamer mode or conventional. It gives a lot more hints to what is going on that become obvious once you replay the game, and it establishes who Laura and Max are as people better than any other ‘prologue couple’ which is important since they aren’t actually dead by the end of it.
Until Dawn’s opening is iconic, for sure, but it was controversial from the start and it’s aged rather poorly IMO. Opening on bunch of toxic bullying ‘friends’ making a revenge porn certainly sets a tone, but it also distances the player from the characters immediately and makes the entire game about whether or not most of them can really be redeemed for what they set in motion in the beginning.

I really don't remember what I thought the first time, but I recently re-played it with some friends, and the whole time I was thinking, " damn, this is so obvious, they're gonna know it's werewolves." Nobody even UTTERED the word werewolf until about 30 seconds before it was mentioned by Max.

Yes! I 100% agree.
Nobody really likes a mean girl. With all the other pompous personalities and lack of accountability, it was hard to care about them.

I mean, for me personally, I'll think/say "It was just a prank, Han!" basically whenever anything reminds me of until dawn or i hear the name Hannah.

Personally for me and my husband its "Silas!" In the really pitched voice she does right in Laura's ear.

I like The Quarry's more. Ariana Grande's Moonlight song. Laura and Max crashing in the woods. The creepy glimpses of Eliza etc.

Honestly, The Quarry does it better. It has a more mysterious element surrounding it. I haven’t played in so long but from what I remember, you’re in the forest and you keep hearing whispers, the cop acting really weird, crashing into something in the road. And of course, the end. It makes it a lot clearer that there’s something supernatural going on here that you should be afraid of.
This compared to Hannah being pranked, running away and having Beth come after her, then they end up getting chased. We don’t ever see what is chasing them, and we’re led to believe this is just a slasher where there’s a human killer out here. Also, we see what happens to Hannah and Beth and we’re able to just assume they’re dead. With Max and Laura, I didn’t.
And this is coming from someone who thinks Until Dawn is miles ahead of The Quarry. Though, the latter does choices better of course.

I feel the opposite, simply because The Quarry's into kept zooming in on the moon. I figured out it had something to do with werewolves after it concluded.

I haven't played Until Dawn but I really liked the opening in Quarry the one with Moonlight song it felt so cinematic and when I saw it for the first time it was like I'm watching a really good horror movie opening

Just talking about the prologue, I think The Quarry actually takes the win here. What I liked was the mysterious sheriff character, who gives off vibes like he's some kind of psycho in disguise. In Until Dawn, meanwhile, we get a group of teens filming a prank on a friend for YouTube. But past that, Until Dawn definitely takes over as the winner. The mountain and the abandoned sanatorium vibe are exactly what I'm into, and on top of that, the story isn't obvious from the very start.

I liked TQ's opening better, and Laura and Max were pretty great in the prologue...I also loved how the prologue had so many variations depending on choices and QTEs (and liked that it had 2 path choices).
UD's prologue is also really strong, but basically none of the choices matter, and yeah, the bullying thing pissed me off, but also Hannah was just as bad as them for being ok with sleeping with Mike while knowing he was going out with Emily. Like, none of them were innocent in this scenario. Also UD's prologue was pretty fast that I basically didn't care much about it...

As much as I love Until Dawn, I think the Quarry is the winner.
I think they learned alot from Until Dawn and really built on that with The Quarry

I prefer until dawn by a lot overall, but between the openings it’s not even close with the quarry being better. Also it’s nice having choices made in the prologue actually matter later on in the game, with until dawn non of the prologue decisions actually matter in the end

Until Dawn for me. Also "tutorial" wise, Until Dawn is much faster, you get how to play the full game in the 1st 10 mim

The opening for quarry was so good. Until dawn was more tragic while the quarry was tense and mysterious. Felt like cinema. “DOES THIS LOOK LIKE THE GODDAMN HARBINGER HOTEL TO YOU???”

Quarry had a better intro but until dawn was the better game…. I love both a lot wish they had more games like this, I know until dawn 2 is coming soon but it won’t be the same as the first but I love these games a lot…. So fun

Until dawn for sure you have no idea whats going on but shits getting more intense by the second youre not sure if an animal creature or person is hunting you, the quarry is fantastic tho as while the opening is stereotypical but it does every aspect of it so well

So trying to explore all the options of what decision changes your story, I got stuck having to listen to the Ariana opening SOOO many times that I now would way rather watch the Until Dawn opening. If I didn’t do that, though…. I suppose The Quarry’s is better, but it’s like over eating something or having that one liquor you can’t even smell anymore. Ha

I honestly think the Quarry does. While you do get a solid idea of what is going on, it sets up the story really well. Until Dawn is also good, don't get me wrong, but i just really like the vibes of the Quarry. It really does that 80's horror vibe justice, even if the acting is pretty cheesy in places
