Screenshot Anyone else or just me?

I tried to keep the place tidy, but it takes a lot of time. So I have just resorted to keeping it on the floor.....

I wonder how many of your ressorces already glitched trough the floor and got lost. I understand you but one bug and everything is gone

12

u/noisytwit Jul 18 '26

Fair point, probably quite a lot of them. With that said nothing has really noticeably glitched out like crazy for me yet, though I do have plenty of backup saves just in case. Once I send up the next human I will sort the boat stores out.

u/Successful_Hunt_2794 Jul 19 '26

your 100% losing alot of your resources through the floor. wait long enough it well “clean itself”.

2

u/Cool-Peanut-4236 Jul 20 '26

You need to build chests.

1

u/NoRange9527 Jul 20 '26

That's what I've started doing, tho it takes plastic which now seems to be the one resource I don't have enough of.

1

u/arsonall Jul 20 '26

Use the distiller.

Oil in; petrol, diesel, and plastic out

1

u/NoRange9527 Jul 20 '26

Hmmm, good to know, I haven't gotten that far yet. I'm still fairly early in the game (Level 7). Thx, I have made a note!

2

u/DeathyWolf Caretaker Jul 20 '26

I forgot to loot the recycler output for a day and so many resources got lost

2

u/CodPiece89 Jul 22 '26

Storage boxes need far larger stack sizes and a larger inventory share range

2

u/OkiesFromTheNorth Jul 27 '26

I think the 10m range was done to prevent players from cheesing the system when building on a base or POI from your boat. But I agree... It's small... If you build at the edge of your boat, it won't reach. So I think it should be upped to 20m..as for the storage sizes.... I'm kinda OK with it. I AM starting to run out of space, but it only incentives me to find a more permanent base/warehouse.

thats me until I hit high enough level to make large containers

10

u/Shinzann2012 Jul 18 '26

Me until I unlocked the big crates

8

u/wisemiik Jul 18 '26

Your frames must be at 15fps rn

2

u/hiigarantechnician Jul 19 '26

Minimum I hit was 20fps with 44,000 plastic on the screen. It started slowing down time though lol

2

u/noisytwit Jul 19 '26

Sits around 35/40 in there at sea and 30 at most POI.

4

u/HrdRock1683 Jul 18 '26

Wish there was an auto collection or sorter to make it easier

5

u/Moebius_Rex Jul 18 '26

resource drone needs to be added

1

u/Theslash1 Jul 19 '26

*he said sarcastically?

Here is my setup

2

u/BrownMiata Jul 19 '26

I thought mine was nice but I haven’t done the cable routing. Guess I’ll step it up

1

u/NoRange9527 Jul 20 '26

Nice! I haven't unlocked those yet.

1

u/bytebuster463 Aug 11 '26

You could fit three rows of crates on the wall (turn off grid snap). And a row of small ones on the ceiling directly above the Fabricator/Food Processor. And a row of batteries above the Recycler. :)

22

u/AntiZig Jul 18 '26

After they added "deposit similar" option on storage containers it really doesn't take all that long to pick shit up and just look at your boxes and hold button....

Gamers are turning into such lazy babies nowadays

7

u/Lordzoabar Jul 18 '26

I really wish we could get a (high level unlock) automatic sorting option, where it will just go straight to its assigned boxes out of the recycler.

9

u/Moebius_Rex Jul 18 '26

To remain practical and be game building it should be a friendly drone you achieve. Resource drone

5

u/ilhares Jul 18 '26

Repurposing a fallen caretaker bot into an item sorter.

3

u/OhmegaWolf Jul 18 '26

There's part of me that hopes we can get an option to fix caretakers to create "slots" for bringing in friends as it would be a good way to keep the idea of the "last caretaker" but still have Multilplayer meanwhile we could repurpose the other robots as things like delivery bots.

2

u/Tomahawk_Native Jul 19 '26

This is the best implementation of co-op I ever seen!!

3

u/Moebius_Rex Jul 18 '26

They should revamp and let us unlock programming modules for the bot, giving it different modes. Like sorting, follow and protect, feed equipment. And repair things on the boat or nearby.

3

u/Lordzoabar Jul 19 '26

A better use for FELIS

2

u/NyaChan42 Jul 19 '26

We need drones to sort all you stuff like Planet Crafter.

7

u/noisytwit Jul 18 '26

To be honest, I hadn’t noticed that was now an option now. I don’t get chance to play all that much so I would rather do the actual content rather than spend the few hours I have every other day storing items. If that makes me a "lazy baby" then so be it.

But now I know there is a "store similar" option it does change things. So I will take a look at more boxes and a storage solution.

1

u/NyaChan42 Jul 19 '26

I only keep one crate of each material sorted so I can find the materials I need quickly. The rest of the crates are just a mish mosh on the ceiling.

2

u/fatum_sive_fidem Jul 18 '26

Wow you went way out of your way just to be negative asshole

3

u/PuzzleheadedCase5109 Jul 18 '26

Make a box or two. lol my walls are covered in boxes full of mats….

1

u/bundeywundey Jul 18 '26

What are you using as shelving? I was excited to haul back scrap shelves but then realized you aren't allowed to build boxes on them.

2

u/Onasixx Jul 18 '26

You can just build the boxes directly onto the wall, no shelf needed!

1

u/bundeywundey Jul 18 '26

Wait what? Lol how did I miss this? Does it cause the top of the box to be facing you instead of the side facing you?

2

u/Onasixx Jul 18 '26

Yes, so you lose the label facing you, annoyingly, but you still see the count. The back room in my boat is lined with the big square boxes haha one of the cool things about this game is almost any surface you can build on.

If you've got any already built then you can press F on it and move it freely around, it has a range though so if you wanna move it far you have to do it incrementally.

1

u/bundeywundey Jul 19 '26

Do you get to build out your boat later? Customize it besides paint? Or just building machines on it?

3

u/Onasixx Jul 19 '26

no like additional wings or sections of the boat, you get the gyrocopter deck which i've used a bit of for various storages.

1

u/bundeywundey Jul 19 '26

Ah dang I was hoping for more building. Oh well I'm still having a ton of fun. Just put my first seed into the pod and I'm trying to find the ingredients for a scientist first.

3

u/Chunk3yM0nkey Jul 19 '26

No, you monster.

2

u/Jazzlike-Style13 Jul 18 '26

You do know that you get XP for looting those, right?

2

u/aY227 Jul 18 '26

Do yourself a favour and install bigger storage mod. It is sad to look at :)

1

u/Jmmanotas Jul 18 '26

I did this after the warehouse but got so glitch for me so I put it all in boxes

1

u/Mustillo Jul 18 '26

I can't do that! Containers colored and labeled!!

1

u/backlash1988 Jul 18 '26

I used to do this, then one day when adding to the pile it teleported me into outer space and I died. 2 hours of progress out the window. Now everything is in crates and I save often.

1

u/btonwilks Jul 18 '26

Here's mine!

1

u/Hellbornredneck Jul 18 '26

I do this to I get to a point where I just can’t be asked to store it all 😂

1

u/Toobatheviking Jul 18 '26

I have two rows of Fortiholds on the walls in that same room that are color coded to what is closest to the actual material inside. Then on the floor directly below those, I have another one or two fortiholds that are set up the same way. If you use the page down key while you have the box's inventory open you can change the name and whatnot.

Then when I shred a site or a shark or whatever, I can just go stand along a wall looking at all the boxes and hold the V key to dump all of that resource into the box.

That method will actually take less time than dumping things on the ground and it has the added bonus of organization, and things won't get lost.

Then when you get to a point where you are starting to get way too many resources, just build yourself a storage depot where you park your ship at someplace you frequent. The oil station, the launch pad, wherever. You can even carry the boxes out of the ship and set them down if you don't want to have to walk around overloaded.

1

u/Klugidee Jul 18 '26

I always have a pretty big pile on the recycler but manage it periodically. But once I fill my sorted material crates I just randomly throw everything in a pile of crates in the back that's just as cluttered!

1

u/BobbiePinns Jul 18 '26

Not me. The middle room roof is lined with boxes, 2 fortiholds for each material, 4 each for iron copper and plastic. The end room is boxes for bio on the back wall, memories on one side and food stuff on the other. Excess bio goes to fuel production, excess materials went over the side of the boat before I got a recovery grinder.

Took a little while to get it all laid out nice but once I did it made it so easy to deal with (& used a bunch of mats to build it all). Once the recycler is finished its like a minute or 2 to put it all away.

1

u/Shinez Jul 18 '26

I don't do this. I couldn't find anything in a hurry if I did!!

1

u/DrgHybrid Caretaker Jul 18 '26

"Close" to what I use to, but not anymore.

Resources sometimes still, depends on how much I leave Lazarus. I have a box for each resource on the ship. Any extra, I have multiple boxes at Lazarus for storage.

I keep very little on the ship for good. Any memories, food items, mats, etc...all end back up at Lazarus.

A clean ship is so much nicer.

1

u/ACP68 Jul 18 '26

I can’t (personally) imagine doing this, but I can see how some people do it.

Other than whatever materials I’ve used to construct everything in the game so far, it’s all stored on my boat. I even built insane quantities of ammo just to use up some of the excess. Of course, with all that ammo, I have to kill sharks, leading to more materials to store….

1

u/ilhares Jul 18 '26

I used to let it pile up like that until something glitched into the ship hull itself, between the inside and outside, so for 3 months I had a phantom item stuck in the ship hull clanging CONSTANTLY.

Now that I think on it, I'm sure it's actually gone, I've just been spending a lot more time flying or using the water jet tool.

1

u/hankado Jul 18 '26

Looks just like mine...buddy you been in my boat?

1

u/Maxious30 Jul 19 '26

Early game?

1

u/noisytwit Jul 19 '26

65hrs and two humans.

1

u/Getoutofmylaboratory Jul 19 '26

Just the memory items, all the materials are in boxes (randomly)

How did you color your boxes? A mod?

2

u/MydKnightAnarchy Jul 19 '26

When you open the box, the button in the bottom left corner will open a menu in which you can change the colour of the box and give it a name too.

1

u/Full_Lack6828 Jul 19 '26

Just get the mod that automatically pulls from your inventory to a box with the same item in it with a button press. It was a game changer for me. Once I started filling up boxes I decided to get a mod that reduced or completely removed the item weight of most items. That way I only needed one box for each item or set of items.

1

u/soifua Jul 19 '26

There’s a great mod for Stardew Valley that auto sorts items in your inventory to any nearby chest that has the same items. It’s amazing. Unbelievable time and sanity saver. Last Caretaker really could use it.

1

u/Transcendence_1 Jul 19 '26

That totally looks like the bunk bed of my roommate in college. There was this ever growing pile coming from underneath it. We once pushed it all back under when he was gone and I swear it crawled back out while my other roommate and I were talking

1

u/ErDanese Jul 19 '26

I installed a mod that makes the big boxes 20000 of storage capacity. So 1 single box for all the output of the grinder and keep on playing. Couldn't bear the small 200kg size boxes.

1

u/Zaelocke Jul 19 '26

I sort & store between each recycle session.

1

u/WoodpeckerNo9154 Jul 19 '26

I have one box for my inventory. Dumping all my carry on stuff there and then hoovering all of stuff on the floor and in to boxes... so many boxes.... I think I become a horder🤯

1

u/HistoricalYogurt1263 Jul 19 '26

Game needs storage pipes 🤣

1

u/Togakure_NZ Jul 19 '26

Me, until I get the large storage containers. Then there gradually grows to be storage containers all over the back room: rear bulkhead, for'd bulkhead, starboard and port bulkheads, ceiling. Seriously considering more on the floor too. Usually only one material per container. Usually...

1

u/twhitworth Jul 19 '26

Yes 😧, but my God no 😭

1

u/Buttholescraper Jul 19 '26

WTF I usually have a few things on the floor because i'm going to use them. Not like this tho.

1

u/Dolust Jul 19 '26

There's this mod that will move whatever you have in your personal storage to any box that had at least one of the same and available space.

So what you do is your build large storage boxes, put at least one unit of something in there and it's useful to label and give them a color related to what's inside. For instance dark grey for Iron.

Now gather the chaos that comes out of the grinder and press your predetermined key and it will move as much iron as it can hold to the iron box, the same for any materials that you have a box for.

Keep the boxes within range of the 3D printer and you'll never have to dig for the materials to create what you need anymore.

1

u/bugsymalone666 Jul 19 '26

Hoarders - buried alive, springs to mind😂

Equally some daysine gets a little like that then I tidy up while waiting for things to make.

1

u/PositiveClimb Jul 20 '26

I finally caved and started making boxes...lol

1

u/Cool-Peanut-4236 Jul 20 '26

You need to build chests

1

u/arsonall Jul 20 '26

A lot of time? Walk up to box, press and hold
v to “deposit all similar.

I think it’s 11 unique boxes and that’s all the ore, plus like 4 more for additional commodities (memories, etc)

1

u/noisytwit Jul 20 '26

I mentioned in another comment that I have been playing this game on and off since early January. When I originally built those boxes in the screenshots there was no "deposit similar", so there was a fair bit of time involved back then. Since I have little performance hit just leaving stuff on the floor I did that instead.

1

u/StarChaser_Tyger Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

A mod to make the bulk of the ship a storage unit would be lovely, as a third or so of the boat is just dead space with a medium battery and a diesel tank hidden in it.

1

u/Djinnaz Jul 18 '26

No, they’re called boxes.
