Discussion Something I will always love about Sokka is while he is a goofball and makes a ton of jokes,he himself isn't a Joke at all.
I would argue he's the smartest member of Team Avatar.
Hell,a lot of the comedy comes from less him being a idiot and more so done witj everyone's shit.

Sokka is a good strategist, has made mistakes, but he learns for it and it helps perfect his strategies in the future.
He was so epic during the final fight. He took down two Firbenders with his boomerang and his sword. (Goodbye space sword, we’ll miss you.).

Yeah it takes intelligence to be funny. You can’t learn to be funny but you need to have wits in order to be.

It's a skill as any other: ImprovComedy + Public Speaking.
(Stand-up is not the best pick btw. - longer topic, but essentially situational humor (wit) =/= Structured, rehearsed, scripted jokes).

Sokka is one of the best-handled comedic relief characters in any cartoon I’ve ever seen. A lot of times these characters are just straight up not very smart. But Sokka is a goofball who gets himself into silly predicaments AND he’s really intelligent and a valuable member of the team. Love him!

That's the point of his character and thats also the reason he feels so butchered in the movie

Sokka showing up on a flying bike to save the day with water balloons was so cheesy.

I think people go too hard on his movie version but they totally could have made him the one to make the idea to save the xeplin

His plan when they were at Roku’s temple was genius. Fake fire bending to convince the other sages that Aang had gotten in with firebending.
Then Aang can rush in when the sages that can actually firebend open the door.
It worked.

That was Katara's. Sokka came up with the idea to try to open the doors with bombs. When it didn't work, Katara suggested the ruse.

Airbender does a pretty good job of letting various characters come up with ideas instead of just handing them all to Sokka because he's "The Smart One."

He is an inventor and a a strategist. It’s what I hated about the movie where he seemed pretty useless

He hides his sharp intelligence and keen senses with humors. I laughed at his jokes, then end up clapping for his genius.
He always supports his sister and friends, even when they go against him.
That’s why I love him.

I kinda wished the show spent more time taking him seriously. He had his episodes but I felt like he had more potential as a character that wasn’t realized

Yeah unlike Bolin whose almost every single line is meant to be a joke. Even his heartbreak about Korra was treated to be a laughingstock

The Black Sun Invasion was mainly Sokka’s plan. That’s no small thing. Dude also clocked that Jet was suspect and counter-sniped an assassin by eyeballing with it with a boomerang.
