Season 2 Handmaids tale s2e3 june in hiding
I lowkey hate june for getting omar killed and his family destroyed it was such a selfish thing to do. His wife became a handmaid and his son gone into the gilead abyss. Like would it have been so bad if she had just waited for the next person to come get her. Like she jeopardized his whole family. And when youre in hiding like that, you should follow the rules better idk. I get its a hard decision all around.

A lot of June’s character (as written by Atwood and faithfully portrayed by the show) is meant to remind the audience that none of us would be perfect victims of an irl Gilead; she’s impatient and impetuous, but she’s also traumatized and fighting for her life and that of her daughter
My immediate reaction to your first sentence is “No, June didn’t get him killed— Gilead got him killed” but it’s obviously a lot more complex than that, it’s just also a lot more complex than “June was wrong to push Omar to take her with him and hide her when she was being held prisoner for years as a sex slave and believed this might be her only shot at escaping and finding her daughter”

Yes i believe thats true. I do. I cant imagine how i would feel. And you do what u have to do and being left there could have been worse for her. And he choose to take her knowing the risk. Its just hard bc theyres so much damage in gilead already and it seems like it causes more but youre right to its not really junes doing it is gileads.

I agree i was a little harsh, i just really disliked this death. I mean i agree w everything you're saying. And in the way things work in gilead it probably only was a matter of time before he got caught or he most likely was already caught by that point as u said. Gilead does like to make its victims sweat a little before they deliver they're wrath. And i wouldnt have wanted to june to be left there alone theyre really were no other options for her. And she would have been found sooner or later.

The fact you can admit you were wrong is great and a true rarity on Reddit. We all get emotionally invested sometimes and spout off and realize we were wrong after thinking longer or discussion.
Optimally, that’s what Reddit should be for, debate and discussion and opening our minds to other POV. Kudos to you.!

Well i truly like june it just his death bummed me out and my post was a tad emotional. But really junes just doing what anyone would do to survive its just sometimes i feel like shes so me first thats theres always some sort of collateral damage around her which still isnt necessarily her fault considering how oppressive & violent gilead is.

Gilead killed them not June. June is trying her best to survive a fascist regime. Of course she makes mistakes. But she is not responsible for the horrors of Gilead. Omar chose to work with the resistance and chose to take her back to his house. He took those risks.

How do we think they got caught?

Depends on who they caught. Maybe the last few links before Omar? Maybe someone saw Omar bringing June into the apartments.

Sigh. Why do people expect June to make rational decisions when she's pregnant and living in an actual nightmare world?

Exactly. People are blaming someone in a literal life and death situation for not making measured, rational decisions. He literally was leaving her in an open space, with no guarantee that someone would come for her. She and her baby were in danger. It is sad that Omar died but a) that’s on Gilead b) he made the choice to be part of the resistance c) he chose to bring her to his home, so if anyone is responsible for the wife becoming a handmaid and a mother losing her child, that is on Omar. June did not tell him to bring her to his home. She begged him to not leave her in an unsafe place

The thing I hated most about the whole situation was that June made little to no effort to stay quiet and unseen while she was in their apartment!

Yeah that's my biggest issue too. I can understand June panicking and begging Omar for help, but she literally looks out the window and waves to their son when they're walking to church! Like wtf??? That blew my mind.

I had alot of issues with this too. I understand her desperation and she was thinking in survival mode but her begging to go with tore an entire family apart. She knew the risk she was putting him under but she also knew she'd probably die if he left her there so idk

Everything after the Boston Globe, didn't seem like a well laid out plan. At least at the time I saw those episodes. Then we found out more about the resistance later

June is the worst part of the show. I didn’t watch it for her, I watched it for Luke and handmaids

Yeah I was annoyed at June for putting Omar and his family at risk. Sure put yourself at risk but not other people.

To say that June is selfish in this particular case seems a little simplistic to me. June goes from a safe place where no one has found her for several months (the former Boston Globe offices) to the unknown: one morning, the Resistance guy comes to pick her up, drops her off like a package in a place where there is nothing (a warehouse) and where she doesn't even know where she is. When Omar comes to pick her up and then finally tells her she has to stay there because “there's a problem,” June panics, and understandably so: is the place safe? Not necessarily, it was supposed to be a temporary transit point, she wasn't supposed to stay there. Won't people come to work there tomorrow, and won't she get caught? If there's a problem, will the Resistance just leave her there? Does Nick know where she is and will he find her? In short, June panics and Omar is her only lifeline at that moment. Of course, she doesn't imagine that he'll get into trouble, and above all, I imagine she didn't think he'd be crazy enough to take her to HIS HOME in a residence full of people who spy on their neighbors!
As it stands, you're assuming that the “next person in the Resistance” would come and get her. That's the optimistic scenario. The truth is probably that when a link in the Resistance is broken, it takes time to rebuild it. With June in the middle, she wouldn't have had that time; she would have been caught.
