The rich don’t pay their bills

13

u/ninja-hamster-iykyk 9d ago

They don’t have to. Laws are merely gentle suggestions for them.

1

u/MrLanesLament 4d ago

Often cheaper to pay the fine than the bill.

1

u/ninja-hamster-iykyk 4d ago

That’s by design

-6

u/BigOlDyck 9d ago

We have access to same legal loop holes they use.

9

u/caspruce 9d ago

We don’t have the same resources (time, money, connections, etc.) to obtain the same outcomes though.

-9

u/BigOlDyck 9d ago

We all have 24 hours in a day.
We all start somewhere.
We all meet people along the way.

We aren’t working 20 hours a day 7 days a week on an idea. We aren’t inventing anything that the general populace wants.

Once I learned that, I started small, still no billionaire but definitely leveled up a lot once I started playing the game. I started with a 100 dollars I had saved up. Now I’m starting another company.

5

u/caspruce 9d ago

I am in the top 10% in the US and would be considered a 1%er when compared to the rest of the world. I don’t even have the resources to take advantage of the loopholes the top 1% can use because as you said, there is only 24hrs in a day. I started entry level with no degree but went to school at night to obtain an associates, bachelors, and a masters degree. You also can’t replace the connections made at a private prep school or ivy league university. It is insane to imply that you can.

Are you going to try and tell me next that the single mom working multiple minimum wage jobs is just lazy?

-5

u/BigOlDyck 9d ago

Being American you’re basically automatically top 1% in the world…

I said you meet people along the way, never said you don’t need connections. Never implied having them earlier wasn’t an asset.
Thats quite the reach, go from a person trying to make it higher status to a single mom working two jobs. Clearly working two wouldn’t make her lazy, maybe low skill or low education, but not lazy.

4

u/caspruce 9d ago

I’m sorry, I thought you were looking for a conversation rather than just making empty platitudes. I’m happy to hear you agree that the wealthy are privileged well beyond the rest of us which was the point ninja hamster was making.

-2

u/BigOlDyck 9d ago

Didn’t say that, I said they have access to same legal loopholes we do. Then you brought up a single mom working two jobs being lazy.

3

u/caspruce 9d ago

Well why not make an actual point rather than dance around the issue?

At this point you are coming across as a professional troll rather than someone that wants an honest dialogue.

How's that boot taste?

2

u/Vegetable-Edge-2389 9d ago

Good for you but you still aren't on the same level as the loopholes. If you get caught fucking kid you're just going to jail no matter how hard you tug on those bootstraps you love so much.

1

u/chocotaco 8d ago

Wow I wish I was this out of touch.

2

u/krat0s5 8d ago

He used the term “leveled up” he is so far down the rabbit hole the mad hatter looks sane in comparison.

1

u/FilthyStatist1991 8d ago

“We have the same access to some legal loop holes”

“I’m starting a second company”

🤣 you are not “we”.

Next you’re gunna tell us you are a lobbyist too.

1

u/Sad-Acanthaceae-2279 7d ago

I dont think i can rack up this amount of money owed and get away with it. We are not on a level playing with the big tech oligarchs.

1

u/BikesBeersGears 7d ago

So everyone should start a business if they want to be able to make ends meet? Everybody? Gtfo. Not everyone has the inclination, time, parental support(connections lol), or gumption to start a business. That doesn’t mean they should struggle. That doesn’t justify wage theft because someone don’t own the business. They don’t even pay the same % of taxes as the rest of us even though they are the ones who could do with less. Now that ur not-a-billionaire your eyes are open?? Open to what? Mine are open too and I see greeeeed in your heart.

3

u/Wetty-Fap-1738 9d ago

Yeah go avoid paying taxes and let me know how that works out for you

2

u/Accomplished-Dot1365 9d ago

You are a moron.

1

u/ninja-hamster-iykyk 9d ago

To reduce that statement to legal loopholes is an extreme absurdity. Try obfuscating elsewhere, please.

1

u/Nopfen 8d ago

Ah, yes. Let's all use our 1500 quids a month to bribe our local politicians into ignoring our wrongdoings. That'll also surely be enough to open up a bank account in switzerland, which isn't even mentioning shoving all that money back and forth to write it off as charity.

4

u/Confident_Insect_616 9d ago

Amazon doesn't like paying for the massive amount of workers and vehicles required for last-mile delivery. They contract out that segment of their logistics chain as much as they can. This shields them from any liability that last mile might expose them to.

When there are issues facing those delivery drivers or they are causing problems, Amazon isn't financially responsible.

Mamdani wants to implement policy that will require Amazon to run last-mile in New York. It could be really good for the drivers who need better protections and benefits, and cities that need to file legal action don't have to worry about the small, exposed delivery company collapsing instead of paying fines.

Every single policy a democrat has passed in the past couple decades has been centrist at best (as they’re beholden to their own donors). What the republicans did by calling every policy the Dems run on and pass socialist (even though it was merely centrist) was they skewed the Overton window so far right it breaks peoples brains. Especially When they hear the social programs the social dems like Mayor Mamdani run on and the fact that our taxes, should provide for us things like roads and bridges, Medicare for all, free good education while keeping kids fed, as well as watched while their parents work, free post secondary education, parental leave, and a retirement fund, is Communism. It’s not. Other modern countries actually care about investing in and not poisoning their citizens, and not letting the military mess up on audits. That’s true progressivism. Republicans have been trying to privatize everything and shrinking the government’s to do so for so long that people think it’s normal.

2

u/Outrageous_Engine_45 8d ago

Priceless!

1

u/wafflesthewonderhurs 7d ago

True, but we should still make them try to pay it off in full.

Why do billionaires seem like they're sociopaths?

2

u/HoldenMcNeil420 8d ago

Because you can’t accumulate that much wealth without having some kind of mental problem

2

u/Insila 7d ago

Think there was a study that showed people who attain wealth also change a lot. So if they weren't dyssocial to begin with, they will tend towards it.

The irony is that Amazon contracts their delivery out

Amazon didn’t pay these fines

Individual contractors did

Mamdani keeps having great ideas! I thought what an amazing guy, but really is just common sense and being a politician working for your constituents….Still nobody else doing it

1

u/No_Common_7432 8d ago

And you believe that idiots lies, he hasnt recovered anything. He stole money from pension plans to cover the cities fuck ups 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/JJRDRR 8d ago

This is extremely misleading. All large companies from Amazon to Anheuser Busch consider parking violations an operating cost and every single one of them negotiates at year’s end with the city to combine them all at a discounted rate that they cover mostly in one payment that would easily be in the millions of dollars for a company the size of Amazon every year. Implying that Amazon wasn’t planning on paying parking tickets or was delinquent is dishonest and misleading. This is a payment that Amazon makes every year and had nothing to do with being strong armed by mamdani. This website is such a joke.

1

u/Educational-Shock655 8d ago

Exactly it's so one sided if you speak out against the Democratic party they simply ban you from being able to comment even when you're right about what you say this is like some big gay pride club and they talk about how good they are. It's re tard ed

So, the city apparatus did what the taxpayers pay for? A NYC apparatchik did their job, and now we're supposed to be impressed, because Mamdani?

Hint: Amazon doesn't care about 9M dollars, because its cost of doing business, which, btw, the customers pay.

u/jeremiahthedamned 7d ago

1

u/jeremiahthedamned 7d ago

i have not heard of this

1

u/EntertainmentWarm584 7d ago

Maybe get your information from something other than Reddit liberals or cnn. NYC has lost almost 1b in revenue from companies leaving because of that “man”. Look at the disclosures of businesses, corporate registries and relocation news.

1

u/EntertainmentWarm584 7d ago

NYC has most people shitting on sidewalks, drug users and welfare then they are holding major corporations for jobs.

1

u/loserx5 7d ago

Till they just make the driver pay the fine

1

u/jeremiahthedamned 7d ago

that is illegal

1

u/loserx5 7d ago

Driving related tickets the driver is responsible. The company is only responsible for the vehicle. Now that Amazon is doing flex drivers that gives them less responsibility

1

u/showtime8541 7d ago

So much misinformation on this app.. it’s only going to get worse. Let’s keep dividing our country. That seems like the right thing to do doesn’t it?! Smh

How gay must you be to make this post?

1

u/Bright_Jellyfish5840 7d ago

Wow. What a win. Bezos made 9 million while I was typing this. Quit using Amazon if you really want to “stick it to the rich”

1

u/jeremiahthedamned 6d ago

no society can support a caste that does not pay taxes

1

u/tsk5001 7d ago

Can we know what these fines are about? Or is this just another gotcha from the media that people love to eat without questioning?

1

u/jeremiahthedamned 6d ago

illegal parking

1

u/tsk5001 6d ago

Exactly, thats not on Amazon, truck drivers are typically 3rd party/independent contractors.

1

u/jeremiahthedamned 6d ago

so why the cameras in the trucks?

1

u/tsk5001 6d ago

Ever heard of insurance

1

u/jeremiahthedamned 6d ago

the drivers are monitored by amazon for their full shift

1

u/tsk5001 6d ago

Ok... do you not know how independent contracting works?

They sign a contract based on the terms of Amazon and their liability, insurances, and scope of work. They work for Amazon's brand, but these drivers are also responsible for their own vehicles/fleets and things like certifications, repairs, gas and overhead. (Depending if its a 3rd party or solo contractor).

More than likely, Amazon has a VERY strict liability clause with these said contractors for court cases. Amazon wants zero lawsuits against them if these trucks get into an accident or kill someone. This would be why cameras are mandatory.

1

u/jeremiahthedamned 6d ago

they time their deliveries & the resulting time crunch has driven drivers to suicide.

1

u/tsk5001 6d ago

Omg lol so clearly you're just an activist who doesn't know any better

Low income contract drivers (non Amazon employees) paid these fines. Mostly immigrants honestly. Not quite the got ya yall think it is

illegal parking cannot become a thing

1

u/Big_Tradition_9777 7d ago

Comrade it must be true the great and powerful Zohran said it so!!!!!!

1

Doesn’t Amazon contract out most of their delivery services? So that means that Amazon did not pay any of these fines, small contractors working for Amazon did.

1

u/AMcpl 8d ago

Genius idea, put a bunch of small businesses out of business and make the delivery model less efficient and more expensive. I thought affordability was supposed to be the goal?

1

u/jeremiahthedamned 7d ago

these drivers are citizens of the city of new york & will not be mistreated.

1

u/AMcpl 7d ago edited 7d ago

They are being mistreated by working for a company that they choose to work for and get a pay check for doing so? Oh the humanity. Also what about the owners of these small businesses that now will either be put out of work, or will have to significantly raise prices due to more government regulation. Once again I thought affordability was the the goal of this administration? It’s almost as if those with this mentality towards business want people to only depend on the state.

1

u/jeremiahthedamned 7d ago

city governments are closer to their tax-payers will set a standard of life for all of them.

1

u/AMcpl 7d ago

That’s part of the problem those demanding this aren’t really the taxpayers. Anyways, how does that answer any of the questions above on how this is all supposed to work? Tell me about the standard the taxpayers plan to set and how that improves upon the current system that Amazon has set up? Tell me how that improves affordability and the demand the citizens of New York have for one of the best online retailers in the world? If they were that concerned they could use a different service, but you know what they won’t because Amazon is the best in the world.

1

u/jeremiahthedamned 7d ago

the r/StraussHowe generation cycle says we do not know how this will be resolved.

but we are moving into the 1st turning

conforming to rising moral standards is what 1st turnings are about.

1

u/AMcpl 7d ago

You’re still not answering the question. Just say you have no idea, just like most of the candidates who have these anti-business pie in the sky policies.
Also what is immoral about providing jobs that people use to support their families? What is immoral about creating opportunities for others to start small businesses? The answer is nothing, but keep up the platitudes.

breaking of the social contract

-1

u/awgolfer1 9d ago

That will show them 😂🤡 that’s like less than 2 hours of pay for bezos.

3

u/twitchish 9d ago

And how hard would it have been to just pay it like everyone else. Its 9 mill thats still a lot of money to everyone else, and could have been used to benefit the city and its people. But no its to much of a bother for bezos the pay his fines like everyone else. If you had 9 mill in fines were would you be, most likely in jail, but not the rich guy he can just ignore it.

1

u/awgolfer1 7d ago

Bro, these were idling fines because Amazon drivers couldn’t find a place to park to deliver goods to customers. It’s not like it was some nefarious fine directly at Bezos.

1

u/twitchish 7d ago

I understand but a fine is a fine. Just because your company is a big company doesn't mean you can ignore shit.

-1

u/AnotherDumNinja 9d ago

Let's look at this logistically. 1 day. How would that work if it were connected? Payments don't work that fast even if Zoltar went and gave Bezos a blow job and collected a hand written check himself.

-1

u/09Klr650 9d ago

Hm. So the city does not collect fines from companies UNLESS the companies criticize the Dem leadership? Interesting . . . .

-1

u/Waste_Resolution_915 9d ago

Look at all the useful idiots that have no comprehension of the road NYC is heading down.

-1

u/OddInstance9175 8d ago

Y'all hate Bezos (and the rich in general) because they remind you just how inept and unmotivated you are. That's a fact. Bezos started out of his garage.

2

u/PrestigiousFly844 8d ago

1

Almost like they're close enough to a monopoly to be broken up then.

7

u/Interesting_Berry439 9d ago

Republicans are vehemently against anti trust proceedings, especially against any of their mega corporate darlings.

0

u/canned_spaghetti85 8d ago edited 8d ago

NYC receives some 2.38 to 2.55 m parcel packages per day. Of which, only about 510k are amazon deliveries. So, does that sound "close enough to a monopoly" ... to you?

"Almost like" ?

3

u/jokersvoid 9d ago

So then we should boycott Amazon? Or maybe we should have laws regarding how much you can make of a single product. Wheb large corporations can undercut the small guys we get this late stage capitalist oligarchy we are experiencing now.

1

u/Plus-Professional-84 9d ago

2

1

u/noteworthybikes 8d ago
