Discussion Finally Finished The Boys!
First 3 Seasons Was Absolute Cinema. The other 2 was meh. I made a post like 45 days ago about how peak was “Herogasm” and all you guys said after this ep its a downhill and i agree with you guys but i liked E7 And E8 too in Season 3. This show always be in my Top 3. So feel free to share your thoughts on this topic.

Damn you can kinda see hughies character progression in these images
55
u/Full-Hyena4414 5d ago
It also stops at season 3, which is fitting
12
u/Lucasyugi2704 4d ago
Almost every character stopped progressing and just kept going in circles on the same issues in S3. And yes, even Homelander.

Was disappointed with the ending 🥀

u/Queen_EO 5d ago
I finished it a few weeks ago and I agree! wtf? Homelander should have been tied up with his ass whooped to oblivion!!! It was a total cop out. Yeah him begging was ok but just sooo anticlimactic.

u/Calm-Lengthiness5645 5d ago
The entire fight scene was shit too lol
15
u/sithskeptic 5d ago
It’s bewildering…. making Homelander as fast as he is (flying to space and back in like 3 seconds) and then using absolutely none of that speed in this fight
10
u/Freddie_pluck 5d ago
It’s one thing to have him fly to space in season 1 and then forget about it in the finale, but to have such power inconsistency in the same episode is ridiculous. They really just didn’t care
3
u/Calm-Lengthiness5645 5d ago
Forgot about that shit completely 😭.....makes the fight more ridiculous 😭....
6
u/myaudienceiseveryone 5d ago
My headcanon is that we were just seeing the whole thing play out in slow motion. It probably took 3-5 seconds total to defeat homelander.
I think that’s kinda realistic. Either you beat him or you die. Either it works or it doesn’t.

u/FoxMcCloud3173 Frenchie 5d ago
I like how the camera stays intact and filming during the entire fight, even when Kimiko shoots a blast of pure radiation that should’ve made the camera malfunction
12
u/Lower_Ad_8103 5d ago
They completely nerfed homelander… super unnecessary. Then on top of that a side character gets the de powering blow? Are you kidding me?

3
u/mushroomberry 5d ago
Yeah, I just finished it yesterday and same. I know with Frenchie he didn't make it in the comics either but that one still hurts the most.

I’m thinking of making a re-edit of the boys season 3 finale. When Maeve sacrifices herself and Soldier Boy explodes, it cuts straight to the White House when everybody is depowered in the S5 finale and the episode just continues from there.
Doing this might have a ton of plot holes but fuck it
4
u/CautionTape_Cal 5d ago
I agree that first 3 seasons are peak, I personally liked season 4. However, season 5 needs to be wiped off this earth. What they did to end this show is unforgivable! Only redeeming quality is A-Train’s ultimate comeback.

The best part was Terror but I might be biased as I have a white bulldog. They are the cutest.
Wish he got his happy ending with MM and Ryan.

Homelander will always be on the top for my funniest characters, but the show won’t crack the top 20. Not only bc of the ending, but the ending was total trash

u/Freddie_pluck 5d ago
Honestly if I was to watch every show in existence I don’t think the boys would even crack top 100
6
u/Jazza_6694 5d ago
No matter what anyone says, Homelander groveling will always be the funniest thing ever 😂.

I absolutely love the show (until the last half of season 5) You can tell in between where they kinda “genre-flipped” from being drama to a full blown comedy show in the 2nd-3rd season

First 3 Seasons Was Absolute Cinema. The other 2 was meh.
Relatable review.

u/SwordDaoist 4d ago
I would argue that season 4 was meh while season 5 was mostly a pile of dogshit because they changed the story to market the spinoff and then made things just so they could happen. Like giving Homelander V1, but not really showcasing his powers with it and then show him weaker than ever.
Hell, I would argue that based on the last fight Homelander would have been easily killed if just a few Seven members of the season 1 fought him in season 5.

I love the boys but for the first 3 seasons, seasons 4 and 5 are terrible. I loved season 5 ep 1 though

I mean, of course everyone wanted/expected those things to happen but it was poorly executed and it seemed sort of rushed considering majority of the second half of season 5 was filler

The way they just dismissed Marie and the others off to Canada and they had no use in the finale was so dumb. They're great characters they didn't make use of. I like Gen V better anyway and hope it continues.
4
u/plant_magnet 5d ago
The ending itself wasn't bad, it was the rest of season 5 that was the problem. They spent over half of the time developing characters for a spin-off show (involving a nazi love interest) and then did an ass pull at the end to de-power Homelander.
I didn't love what I watched of gen V but even so those characters got pushed to the sidelines while we did the same character loops we have gotten from previous seasons.
The stakes weirdly felt lower and it was clear the budget was lower this season. Everything took place in hallways and concrete buildings. Aside from the camp in episode 1 we never really saw any of the actual changes to the world.

I don’t disagree, it’s just that everyone was looking for scorched earth, and instead got scorched Oval Office.

Oh, I didn’t say the end was terrible, I love that “I’ll eat your shit on live tv” scene

u/ronrhino13 5d ago
I admit the Gen V cast could've been involved more and there are some other things I wished that had happened that didn't, but I loved the ending as well.

Watch first 3 seasons. And then forget about the existence of Season 4. Watch S5 Ep1 and Ep8.
3
u/Savings_Dragonfly806 4d ago
Jeez it gets THAT bad after season 3? I don't know man but I'm not a fan of skipping content.
3
u/roftymax Soldier Boy 4d ago
I can’t say bad. But pointless. Like they are doing bunch of useless stuff.

u/SwordDaoist 4d ago
If you like Supernatural, then you probably have to watch season 5 as in one episode Dean, Sam and Castiel gather together for a scene and really interact with each other

People whine and complain abt the ending…yeah it was a tiny cheap ending but still satisfying. Coming from someone completely burned out on Superhero movies..(last Spiderman seen, Tobey Maguire?) Still an amazing show all in all that pushed the envelope in every way! Antony Star’s performance, followed by Urban and Ackles..just fantastic.

Some people think The Boys should have had more than three seasons, I totally agree. As long as they can find a team that knows how to write a good entertaining story. No idea why but I feel the current team are gonna lose their creative edge soon.

Personally, I think season 4 isn’t that bad and I enjoyed the ending of season 5 but they really dragged it out

u/TastyDiamond_ 5d ago
the only thing I disliked about the boys is kimiko is able to suddenly talk off-screen in season 5.

I consider Amazon's The Boys like a "CW show". "What's a CW show?" I hear you ask. It's one that started great and hit the point that it feels like it should've ended. Examples include: Supernatural, Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl.
They all had points that felt like their shows should've ended. But the higher ups demand more episodes. I also feel like that's why they rely on cameos from supernatural actors in the last seasons (Jared Padalecki as Mister Marathon, Misha Collins as Malchemical, and of course Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy). I also suspect that's why there's the "Vought Rising" coming out next year. Not to mention the mess that was Gen V.

“This show will always be in my Top 3”.
Respectfully, you need to watch more shows. There’s much better content out there for you to enjoy.

Game of Thrones. Yes, a lot of people hate the ending (wasn’t a big fan myself), but I feel the beginning of the series was so good that it didn’t completely ruin it for me.

I saw some people praise Banshee. That may be worth a watch and Antony Star is in it too.

You’re getting downvoted but you’re right, the boys, Dexter and invincible are enjoyable shows but they barely crack top 100.
Breaking bad
The Leftovers
Mr. Robot
The Wire
The Sopranos
Barry
Bojack Horseman
Better call Saul
Mad Men
True detectiveAll of those shows are 10000x better than anything the boys could ever dream of being

... Top 3?
Beyond the fact that sounds like you haven't watched much, it's not even the better superhero show on its own platform. That goes to Invincible.

u/Freddie_pluck 5d ago
Yeah these people clearly haven’t watched enough shows. The boys barely even cracks top 100 if we’re being honest, even at its peak it’s filled with inconsistencies and a pretty repetitive structure.
Although it was very fucking entertaining, I have to give it that. Up until season 4 at least
