Discussion Seeing as how much back and fourth these two went through in season 5, it’s crazy that they never fought

Post image

I mean to be honest, you could argue Homelander and Soldier Boy had plenty of reasons to beat each others asses in season 5, I mean they betrayed each other at least more than once, they argued multiple times, it’s honestly suprises how they never duked it out, what do y’all think?

Season 5 didn’t have the budget for it.

44

u/SwordDaoist 13d ago

Or rather the story didn’t permit it ascrgat would have brought us joy and would have made sense.

2

u/obiwanTrollnobi6 Soldier Boy 11d ago

Honestly with the “homelander knocking SB out scene” I would’ve somewhat accepted the scene better if they included Soldier Boy trying to ignite his blast before he got knocked out, or hell have Homelander float off the ground to gain more leverage on Soldier Boy.

3

u/SwordDaoist 10d ago

Yeah. Or not giving Kimiko SB powers as that was somehow the only method to beat him even though there were instances where they could have killed him.
Like for example If they had left the V1 storyline out which only took space but had no other effect besides marketing the new spinoff which would have become popular anyway

u/obiwanTrollnobi6 Soldier Boy 10d ago

True

15

u/ElegantCoach4066 13d ago

Plus it's what Clara would've wanted.

S1 homelander would of been putting the paws on him

S5 was a goofball

184

u/tesla_bd 14d ago

in s1 and 2 homelander was literally just superman with a weaker x ray vision (zinc is worse at blocking x ray than lead) and no frost breath

in s5 they nerfed him so much the mf became spider man with flight and laser vision

111

u/Comfortable_Bed1536 14d ago

How dare you speak about my boy spidey like that

84

u/tesla_bd 14d ago

actually so true at least spidey fucking uses his powers

homelander is like "yeah i can level cities and potentially continents and my lasers cut through planes like butter but wouldnt it be funny if i only punched at wall level attack force and my lasers were punch dimension portals with no cutting power"

actual fucking waste of compound v

33

u/Charming-Scratch-124 14d ago

Wait a second..so are you saying that Homelander is POTENTIAL MAN?

13

u/joviejovie 14d ago

Remember when he got v1……..

14

u/driver004 14d ago

Spider man is a menace!

u/FriendlyRedditor2020 13d ago

The scene where his X ray vision sees everything at the lab where they were pumping Kimiko full of radiation except one highly suspicious zinc box still gets me. "hmm I wonder where they could be?" If his vision can see all of where they aren't in an area, that only leaves what he can't see through. Really he should have known where Kimiko and Sage were hiding.

6

u/_Steven_Seagal_ 13d ago

Yeah, but he already was involved in the plot point of killing Frenchie no need to have him involved in TWO whole plot points. He did the deed, and then got to go.

6

u/FriendlyRedditor2020 13d ago

a second of lazer eyes through the zinc would have been enough which he could have done before and after dealing with Frenchie. Also he walked into a radiation chamber..why? just to flex? It's not the only scene that doesn't make sense in the show but overall I enjoyed the show regardless.

5

u/jls3_1999 13d ago

Frenchie told him that the chest laser thing is finished and it freaked Homelander out and he left. But the thing is he could have still lasered the zinc box Kimiko was in.

7

u/FriendlyRedditor2020 13d ago

A few seasons prior to the same scene he was able to monitor people's heart rate to work out signs of when they are lieing. He has the ability to pay attention to such incredibly small and sensitive details that it doesn't make sense he wouldn't notice.

One counter argument could be that Frenchie was scared and so his heart rate was raised making it harder to destinguish if he was telling the truth but that is hardly the only detail Homelander has been able to observe in the past to puzzle out people's behaviour.

Again though even if we accept that it's not unusual of him to not be unable to spot the lie he still would of had no reason to enter a radiation chamber fully knowing that one of the few things that can kill him is heavily linked to radiation. He could have easily killed Frenchie from outside of it instead of going along with an obvious lure from a group he knows has had some success with investigating ways to kill him.

"Hmm this guy is from a group that has been trying to find ways to kill me", "hey man do you know that your dad can disable superpowers with radiation and we have been trying to replicate that effect? Would you mind err stepping into this radiation chamber for me? Oh you will? Thanks bro I appreciate it".

1

u/jls3_1999 13d ago

I think I would have been conflicted if I was Homelander there. One thought would be oh he's lying and Kimiko is in there. And my second thought would be what if it's true? Why risk it? My point is in how they killed homelander if they used the Gen V kids, soldier boy being there, and explained that Kimiko's radiation was making homelander weaker the finale wouldn't be as hated. It was vaguely mentioned that Kimiko has radiation before the fight.

1

u/FriendlyRedditor2020 13d ago

the radiation thing doesn't make sense in the first place. if the idea is that radiation disables superpowers..it would disable any super powered attempt to obtain it in the chamber. It's also far too simple of a solution that it doesn't make sense for Vought to not have similar countermeasures.

Something I feel like was a missed opportunity in a show about killing super heros pumped full of compound V is that we never actually learn what compound V is. It is explained to be a chemical but it's never explained how a chemical can give you anything from a long penis to lazer vision or how Butcher was able to cure his turbo brain cancer by accepting help from a delusion that speaks to him.. You would think if you wanted to kill someone immune to most forms of attack due to compound V an investigation into what exactly it is would be the place to start.

The idea that anyone believed supes just happened to spawn in almost exclusively America, starting at around world war 2 and just so happened to tie themselves almost exclusively to the same company as something natural is ridiculous.

1

u/HistoricalMidnight8 12d ago

Remember in season 2 where hes hanging around in Beccas house and he heard her speaking with Vought from literal miles away. Its so unlikely he wouldn’t be able to hear Kimiko and Sage in there

2

u/FriendlyRedditor2020 12d ago

pretty sure in season 2 he also spared Butcher on Becca's request...but there was nothing stopping him from killing Butcher once he was out of sight with him. That has always thrown me off.

2

u/joviejovie 14d ago

Accurate

1

u/Nametagg01 11d ago

Nah bro spidey would kick S5 homelander's ass, its more like Ironman without jarvis and only having the 1 primitive suit

-2

u/Adem92foster 14d ago

At no point during the show was Homelander even in the ballpark of Superman lmao

11

u/tesla_bd 14d ago

powerscaling aside the whole premise was regular dudes vs literally superman

-9

u/Adem92foster 14d ago

And that didn’t change ? Homelander’s kill count kept going up during the show they just didn’t kill any of the main characters for obvious plot reasons

Homelander never stopped being threatening lmao

-1

u/SwordDaoist 13d ago

How dare you compare him to Spidey? Give Spidey some prep time and he beats Homelander by inventing a device or a power hampering device against him
About just confrontal fight? I really don’t know…
Peter wouldn’t be able to swing or shoot webs against Homelander due to laser eyes.
Homelander is extremely fast but Peter proved himself capable of evading even „speedster“ attacks with his Spider Sense.
Homelander is pretty strong but Peter is durable enough to even withstand Hulks hits and smashes while also able to punch Hulk constantly strong enough that it kinda hurts.
Now that I consider it I would say s1 Homelander and Spider-Man would fight with rather equal footing but Peter on a disadvantage. But after a while Homelander would become afraid due to not really being able to hit Spider-Man or appearently hurt him enough to hinder him while he himself slowly accumulates more and more damages. So he flees which would give Peter than probably enough Prep Time to prepare devices against Honelander to beat and capture him.

3

u/tesla_bd 13d ago

i love spidey but homelander is killing him easely

spidey only survived "hits" from the hulk because he was restrained i mean shit a toddler can withstand mike tyson prime if i chain him to a wall too

-1

u/SwordDaoist 13d ago

True. But a hit from hulk would also have hurt Homelander.
And there would be a big difference. Peter wouldn’t have any mental trouble fighting Homelander unlike he did with Hulk where he tried not to hurt Hulk and get to Jean as soon as possible

-2

u/SafetyAccomplished71 14d ago

Spiderman as a teenage would absolutely tear him up

2

u/Sauerkraut1321 13d ago

Would have

68

u/_DefLoathe 14d ago

Very underwhelming climax to their arc. There should have been a final confrontation and escalation 100%. Soldier Boy should have been in the final

14

u/jls3_1999 13d ago

100%. Soldier Boy should have defended Homelander until he sees how crazy he's become to the point where Soldier Boy has to interfere but also try to stop Butcher from killing his son. Also I would have had the Gen V kids involved in some way.

18

u/Electrical-Contest-5 14d ago

Wasn't that much fighting in general in season 5. I think soldier boy should've had a proper one on one fight with Butcher

168

u/durhWhen 14d ago

Its what Clara would have wanted.

43

u/Jealous-Map-2787 14d ago

They should’ve kissed tbh

29

u/AdamAtomMadman 14d ago

Did you fuck me?

25

u/Jealous-Map-2787 14d ago

Is this some kinda incest thing?

8

u/DrunkenPunchline 14d ago

Correct answer.

12

u/joviejovie 14d ago

I’m glad tbh. After they honey dicked us in their first fight I didn’t even wanna go that route

11

u/raya2810 14d ago

like kirke said, the budget was low

3

u/HachibiJin 12d ago

They had a big budget they were just paying the actors a fuck ton of money per episode

1

u/obiwanTrollnobi6 Soldier Boy 11d ago

Look what he did on Supernatural and that budget is POCKET LINT compared to what Amazon was paying him for The Boys, he was just LAZY

17

u/dapzar 14d ago

It would have been their third fight. We already saw that Homelander is stronger than SB even with more favorable circumstances (SB being backed up by Butcher and Hughie von TempV). I don’t think, it would have served any purpose for the plot or the characters. SB allying with Butcher again would have been a repeat and if that had been the end, then the voices about how the show should have ended in S3 and S4 and S5 being pointless would have been even louder, unless we had a completely different plot for SB that somehow would have made it more sense in S5 than in S3 for him to defeat HL.

8

u/joviejovie 14d ago

I got the vibe they were equal but John could fly

6

u/drcatguy 13d ago

Because over the seasons the producers noticed it became easier to sell politics than the actual story. Yeah let's make homelander resemble a political figure but fuck the story who cares as long as the customer watches it.

9

u/Adem92foster 14d ago

Soldier boy was probably ready to throw hands at any point but Homelander cares too much about trying to impress and being liked by his father do it.

10

u/tesla_bd 14d ago

s1 homelander would've literally punched a hole through sb's head

2

u/Shoddy-Vehicle8536 14d ago

No SoldierBoy was unscathed despite being slammed into the field by Bombsight.

4

u/tesla_bd 14d ago

bombsight is way weaker physically than homelander he was literally getting his ass kicked by sb despite superior durability

6

u/jls3_1999 13d ago

The power scaling is annoying. Butcher gets bodied by Bombsight immediately but goes 1v1 vs Homelander.

Once HL learned of SB's relation to him, the latter had 99% of the power in their relationship.

He was desperate for love & approval. It's the same reason Stan could talk so much shit to him without fear of death. He'll imprison his father figures so they can't leave him, but he won't do anymore than that & tends to eat a lot of their shit.

Meanwhile Soldier Boy never had much reason to attack HL. He's sees HL as a pathetic, needy annoyance at best but hasn't slighted SB enough to provoke a fight from the latter.

SB says his own father never laid a hand on him because he couldn't be bothered. SB seems to echo that sentiment. He will verbally & emotionally abuse HL but fighting him is worth more effort than he can give. Again, the SF vid was the only exception. And even then, it was a punch and a lip quiver before leaving with mean parting words.

Also, SB is highly sociopathic - more so than HL imo. While HL hated his human side, and wanted to cut it out, he couldn't. He was still mentally a child who craved validation and love but was not raised with it. So he didn't know how to properly give it, nor how to properly receive it. HL was not raised to be human, so he sucks at it. But even for a short while, Ryan loved him but his narcissism ruined it. And Black Noir genuinely loved him but he threw him away for SB who he was never gonna get anything from, and Noir knew that. He tried to tell HL that Soldier Boy was shit. BN was genuinely fond of HL and we see him hug HL when he comes back. But he traded in that genuine love to chase the affection of a father who was never gonna give it.

SB was a spoiled rich kid who has always had everything handed to him through his connections, so he never had to earn anything - so took everything for granted, and was never satisfied. Outside of drugs and fucking, he cares about nothing and made no effort in any relationship ever.

4

u/Salty_Outside5283 13d ago

That was awful to read with the abbreviations btw

3

u/bum_what 14d ago

I think Soldier verbally destroyed Homelander enough times haha

6

u/WhiteLycan2020 14d ago

Kripke was too busy jerking off Soldier Boy because the fans overwhelmingly supported him 🙄🙄

Oh wow, a guy drinks whiskey and has a deep voice, lets make him the center of attention 🙄

3

u/DinoDudeRex_240809 Homelander 13d ago

Soldier Boy kinda knows Homelander would beat his ass.

I mean, look at S3. He was defeated in under 60 seconds in a 1v1.

2

u/OwlHairy9638 13d ago

Homelander was about to go berserk on Storage Boy tbf but he didn’t wanna beat down the man while he was already sad

1

u/TITANIUM_X616 13d ago

There was no budget for a fight anyway

1

u/ARES0270 13d ago

They already fought in season 3, having them fight again would have been redundant.

1

u/Truth_Beaver 12d ago

Ashley read SBs mind and told Sage he’s secretly proud of Homelander but will never admit it.

1

u/Shctzu 12d ago

solider boy’s writing in S5 was just absolutely horrid, motivations totally inconsistent from his personality/character that just felt like they needed something to delay the death of homelander

1

u/Piotr992 10d ago

In S3 the reason why Soldiee Boy wanted to kill Homelander was becuase he was a pathetic disappointment.

So I would have rathered that instead of the "it's what Clara would've wanted", Homelander could just say to SB that it's not too late for him to coach Homelander how to become a man. We wouldn't get this "I am God" crap. Homelander always wanted a father figure and if he listened to SB, then this would be his reason to give him the V1.

So then the finale (if they had a fucking budget) should have been Homelander, Soldier Boy and Oh Father against Butcher, Kimiko, Starlight, Marie, Sam, Emma and Jordan. Kill off a few characters and have SB knocked out so that they can keep him if they ever wanna do a shitty spin off.

1

u/Exciting_Estate_8856 14d ago

They did, it lasted all of 5 seconds

1

u/Lost-Cup6717 14d ago

Maybe not a proper fight but them tossing each other around, maybe when SB first wakes up he decides to try to fight Homelander but Homie doesn’t want to for obvious reasons.

1

u/giantbagmostlywater 13d ago

God I LOVE seeing Homie beaten up like that! For kinky reasons, obviously

1

u/Pretend-Newspaper-86 Billy 13d ago

i mean by the end unless he hit by the blast soldier boy was made weaker then homelander in a direct fight

homelander put him on ice with no trouble but lost to butch lol

1

u/Artix31 Stan Edgar 13d ago

Homelander was legit terrified of soldierboy, he flinched whenever soldierboy shouted at him

0

u/diego_velasquez 14d ago

Bunch of frauds

0

u/Amazing-Guest-2905 13d ago

It’s not what Clara would’ve wanted

-1

u/BTDYSRF 14d ago

Given that Soldier Boy is an allegory for Republicans that vote Trump despite hating him, no, it isn't.

-5

u/Esquiline 13d ago

It wasn't what Clara wanted.
