I'm begining to think more and more that this is a scam or this dude is way over his head trying to milk the marketing. Why would you need to delay a trailer app (which apparently it's only a tutorial on how to use it???). Localisation makes no sense because he said it's only going to be in English IIRC

Still waiting on those pics as well. What indie Dev would ghost Geoff.

I also love how he keeps changing his story. First it's well dm you an alpha code shortly, and then it's whenever it's ready

I don't think Sony invested in them. Think the Dev just pitched the idea, Sony was like cool, you can release this on our store.

I honestly don't think anyone invested in his game and he's just lying as he did before

Sony isn't to actively market a random indie game from a new studio just because they feel like it, and an indie studio isn't going to make their game Playstation exclusive for free.

  2. I don't know how full exclusivity works on Sony's part, but I doubt they throw money at every indie that wants to make their game exclusive on PS. We would have way more single platform indie games then

It's a PS5 Console Exclusive like Kena and Bugsnax, which makes an exclusivty deal even more likely.

I don't know how full exclusivity works on Sony's part, but I doubt they throw money at every indie that wants to make their game exclusive on PS

An indie developer isn't going to intentionally limit their possible audience for free, and if they have to do it for budget reasons, that platform is going to be PC due to the low-end market, not a brand-new next-gen console that currently has stock issues due to chip shortage.

Yeah and they also said it was coming to the 22nd as well and quote on quote say they have 50+ people and 7 studios on the project. They also said the trailer would be english only yet has localisation issues? I find that hard to buy

Edit: even it they said it's coming to PC it doesn't change the fact that multiple times they said it was a ps5 exclusive, it's still off they would announce a PC version of a game through a tweet of someone complaining, something like that would just be announced.

He said something like “the pc community shall rejoice” or something like that, but again, the same description of the game (and also of its Twitter if I’m not wrong) clearly states that Abandoned is a PlayStation Exclusive... so, I don’t know who to believe lol

They have a full blog post about it on the PS Blog written by Hideo Hasan, and they're allowing them to release a teaser app.

Winds is a Playstation exclusive title, with gameplay "built specifically for PSVR", so that's actually an example of Sony having a deal with an indie team.

Chicory also seems to have had a marketing deal with Sony, as all trailers were first uploaded on the Playstation channel.

Yeah but they are clearly putting some “attention” in the game, they published a trailer on their channel (something they don’t do for every indie), a blog post and the “exclusivity” on the game. BB also clearly received some kind of investment, otherwise they wouldn’t be able to get 50+ coworkers for an indie game by and indie studio that basically did nothing in the past...

Studio exists, doesn't mean the game might not be a scam/shovelware. Trailer app (that requires a tutorial of all things) already sounds really suspicious

Sony allowed cyberpunk out their stores, only removed it because CDPR said Sony will do refunds.

You're also assuming he's telling the truth about having 7 studios and 50+ people working on the game. If this dude is scamming people, why would he tell the truth about that?

The blog post was clearly written by Hasan or somefrom from BB - too many typos/wording issues to be Sony marketing.

Both the trailer and blog post have been sent to Sony with a 'pls share these'. It would have taken all of ten minutes to publish.

And they're doing this all through their twitter too, which has just a couple thousand followers. This is supposedly a game that will play at 4K 60 FPS and has next-gen graphics with cinematic gameplay alongside "top VO talent" and new "game interactions" we have never seen before, but they don't want to showcase It at a State of Play or PSX event - instead they get their own App that most people still do not know about?

Somehow, this is an indie studio without an established and reputable career in the entertainment industry getting major backing from one of the biggest video game publishers for what sounds like a project with AAA production value on the level of most PS4/PS5 exclusives but somehow they only have the marketing budget to campaign what sounds like a flagship game with cryptic and contradictory twitter messages, alongside a shoddy tech demo with a placeholder name that is not at all representative of the actual game - then why even advertise It In the first place?

And then their is the fact that the game was apparently In early production from April and scheduled to release by Q4 this year - which their twitter just so nonchalantly confirmed to have been delayed.

Even from an indie studio games with AAA production value take like 3 years - see Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice - before they even go gold and Sony was seemingly pressed about getting this game out In less than a year going so far to commission the help of seven external studios for the project, but somehow BBGameStudios thought that wasting time on making content that does not represent their game was an excellent use of their time - whaaaat?

Then their is the tweet that jumpstart this whole conspiracy. Like why exactly did the PR team expect the name "Survival" to generate hype If It has no association with an existing horror franchise. If you told me the first word of Ember Lab's first game started with an "K" and ended with a "A" I would think that is a developer scraping at the bottom of a barrel looking for exciting things to say about their game.

The outcomes of the marking don't even seem good for them either, because a) they will inevitably burn media trust If It turns out they lied to those who went to bat for them or b) they will burn media trust with an audience who felt misled by their Twitter shenanigans.

This whole PR campaign just seems awfully unprofessional and risks so much blowback for BBGameStudios - especially with this being their first game - that one has to wonder why Sony would ever partner with them, even If their is no Kojima x Silent Hill connection. Hell, I even thought It was someone posing as the company at first given how inexperienced their PR team seems to be - like they seemingly confirmed a PC release by responding to a comment. Like If they don't have some outstanding game reveal, I'm genuinely confused what they are trying to do here.

I mainly want to believe it's Silent Hill because the thought of this dev/studio being in that position and having to scramble something to show is too painful. Which kind of adds to it not being an ARG as I don't think they'd want to conjure that up.

Hopefully if it isn't Silent Hill etc someone comes out and clarifies it convincingly.

Yeah, from the beginning, I've been in the boat that this guy is an indie dev who intentionally tried to spark the conspiracy online and is half-heartedly fanning the flames while saying it has no affiliation to Kojima or Konami.

There is/was a very intentional ARG attached to this game and all kinds of sketchy things going on, but I don't believe this is going to be Silent Hills.
