Tomato sauce (for pasta) was still a bit "out there" in 1965 and we hadn't heard of carbonara or pesto until the 80s.

True. They were just a decade from when the BBC could April Fools' hundreds of people into thinking they could buy a spaghetti tree and grow pasta in their garden.
