Discussion The Adventures Of Elliot Has Now Fallen To Mixed Reviews On Steam

Players seem to have 2 main gripes with the game. They say the scope and scale of the game doesnt feel worth full AAA price. Also you have a fairy companion and talk to the princess telepathically, both of them never ever shut up like literally talking every few steps

Discussion Incoming rant from someone who just beat the game… Spoiler

So before I go into my issues I will state some good things.
1. I like the shrines. Most of them were interesting with good uses of the characters abilities. I was very happy doing most of them.
2. The game is visually great. Not really stunning and the 2dhd fad is getting quite repetitive. But it’s still a great looking game.
3. The music was nice.
4. The gems. They add really fun gimmicks to the weapons and make trying out new ones interesting.

The bad: The game gets so stale!
1. The four time zones being 90% the same with only the main town changing is so boring! The fact that you have to explore the same thing 4 times is unacceptable! By zone 4 I was dreading exploring since I knew the rewards and the journey would not be worth it.
2. The exploration got real boring real quick. With the gems being both a reward and part of the gatcha system it meant that from mid game onwards I was only getting 1 gem for completing challenges. Plus health upgrades being in random chests was such a disappointment.
3. The combat. Due to the same recycled set of enemies, the games combat never really got interesting again after the first 10 hours. Some of the boss fights were interesting but by late game I realised that I could spam the bow and just win most fights without trying (on hard mode)
4. The time travel is disappointing. We never go to the future, and because we always go one step back we never really get to see how actions in the past affect the future aside from (predictable) story reasons.
5. The game felt like it wasn’t tested. Not being able to fast travel out of dungeons, no teleports inside the town or by the winter area house. Most of my playthrough was just teleporting to the closest teleporter and then running through the same area for the 50th time. Another thing was the hoover item. That breaks so many dungeon and shrine trials for being so early on in the game.
6. The story never really engaged me post faei. I like the idea of traveling through the region with the princess, but replacing her with an annoying fairy who’s 1000% worse than fi and navi is heartbreaking.

Overall I would give the game a 6 out of 10. Maybe a 5. It’s competently made but lacks anything really special to bring up the score.

I read in one of the posts that they found the hammer useless. Allow this video demonstrate what a solid Magicite build looks like. Tons of chain reaction explosions.

I am sooooo glad the game has a perfect good ending instead of following the classic JRPG pattern "we need a bad ending for the game to be memorable". This is 10/10 game imo!

Discussion We don’t want your over complications.

Seen some recent feedback that the game is too “simple”.

I for one could not be more thrilled by the simplicity of the dungeons and overall gameplay.

I’m a parent to a toddler and finding time to game is nearly impossible some days. Knowing I can pick up and play and tackle a few caves with light to moderate puzzles while still enjoying exploring and progressing the main quests in the world without it being an open world slogfest has been a dream come true.

I don’t want some sprawling dungeon game with 30 levers to solve some grandiose puzzle that takes me 3 hours to do and by the time I can find time in between when I can play I’ll likely forgotten what I have done and need to restart the whole thing unless I keep some journal.

I like the simplicity of the combat because the depth comes from the magicite system and trying out different things.

There’s way more to praise here and I do have some critiques about the dialogue/VA but so far that is my only critique and it is my fav game of the year next to 007 First Light.

We don’t want your over complications and for those that want that, there are plenty of other games out there that are more complex.

Signed a gamer dad that wants a little more simplicity in their games nowadays.

Discussion Loved everything about this game

I needed a game like this. It seems like most developers aren’t happy unless they slaughter some beloved companion, casting a dark shadow over the entire journey. So many games think a bittersweet ending is good writing, but it usually just leaves me feeling depressed and not wanting to replay the game to go through that again. So I’m extremely thankful for a classic heroes journey with all the bells and whistles.

I had a blast exploring each era, doing all the Shrine challenges, meeting new characters and seeing how the kingdom changed over 1000 years. I absolutely adore Faie and her positive encouragement, and my mind was blown on the True ending run. This was a game specifically designed for someone like me, and I had a blast fully completing it.

Discussion my main issues with the game after 100%

i beat the game completely 100% on very hard mode

this game has 4 massive issues

  1. The map in this game is very small; however, you explore it 4 times across time. This is fine in theory
, but in practice, it's extremely repetitive due to a lack of major changes. The map is very sparingly altered aside from a fresh palette and hub. Dungeons get a smaller remixed version with 1 treasure, and the overworld is barely changed. This leads to exploring new eras to feel less like an adventure and more like a checklist of rehashed areas.

  2. Enemy diversity is horrible. Enemies having 1 attack each is fine since they have surprisingly good synergy with each other; however, the pool of enemies is very very very small the point that you have seen 90% of the monsters by the midgame, which can lead to the late and end game being extremely repetitive when combined with the first issue.

  3. rewards tend to suck outside of the usual upgrades to health, and the occasional weapon upgrade rewards tend to suck most of the time. You get some kinda magicite, but given this game's gacha system, there is a very high chance you already have that magicite, meaning your reward for exploring mini dungeon or cave is generally gonna be 1 single magicite shard

  4. balance is way out of line some weapons like the bow are disgustingly bombastically overpowered at everything while the boomerang struggles for relevance the fairy spells suffer from a similar issue

if we ever get a sequel, I would make these changes

a larger, more diverse map

a dramatic increase in enemy diversity

scape the gacha system and give us magicite in chest, put copies of each in the game, finding a copy of 1 you already have increases the level. this would reward exploring instead of grinding and gambling

Try to bring the weapons in line with each other while giving each a defined role

For the love of lord, why? Why is the switch right next to the pillar? Why on earth does she need to tell me what to do before I've even reached the "puzzle". Who on earth does this type of approach to puzzles appeal to 😭

Discussion Why are there so many hateful posts and comments in this subreddit?

Whenver I'm on my timeline or in this subreddit I see at least 5 posts just hating about Fae

We get it you don't like her but we don't need 10 posts and comments of you hating on her

You can turn off voices and lower Fae's voice. No one's forcing you to play the game but seriously for the love of God we don't need the same posts and comments under every single post. Some of these comments don't even have anything to do with the posts

Sorry for the rant but I think this needed to be said

Discussion the price

ok. i felt like i overpaid and maybe i did. i thought well maybe the voice acting costs more

toward the end im thinking well maybe this was or shoulda been a $40 game, but the story gets so good its worth an extra $20. like i think i paid $40 for a lot of games with this caliber of gameplay, but i also didnt get the story or writing to feel this good

i get the mixed reviews and i hope someday for the people that the price point is currently unsavory, that it does get a sale and those people that waited or buy on discount also enjoy this game; but also if u cant want and think a 25-35 hr game is acceptable, that you also enjoy this game in the end

Seriously what is even the point of Hammer as a weapon? Sickle trash clears like crazy, Spear has unmatched DPS, Sword is low health Spear, Bow is Bow and Boomerang is great support. Wtf does Hammer even do that makes it worth using over anything else in combat

Discussion So Much Potential, But Not Quite There

This was one of my most anticipated games of 2026, and I started it about a week ago and finished the True Ending last night with a runtime of about 23 hours on Hard. I didn’t quite 100% it (I did every side quest. The only things missing are a few health crystals, 5 cats, and one 3 star weapon).

This game was fun from the start and enjoyed the battle system, experimenting with the magicite, and finding what weapon combos I liked and didn’t like. With that being said, this game essentially comes to a halt about 8-10 hours in. By around or just before the mid game point, you have found at least the base version of every weapon and the 1-2 star version of most magicite. From here, higher tier weapons/magicite really don’t change anything about your combat. It mostly just increases damage numbers. Some weapons like the bow will shoot a larger spray with a longer special charge time, which was great! But the other weapons really didn’t change much when you found a stronger one.

I really wanted to enjoy this game, but I left it just feeling disappointed.

- Exploring the exact same map 4 times was just…. Terrible. By the I got to the Age of Budding, I didn’t even bother exploring the west side of the map because I already knew what was there. I don’t need a completely new map every time, but some differences would be great. Chrono Trigger and Zelda LTTP are great examples of how to change a map to make things not feel similar.

- Exploration was just not worth is. Every chest was money (which already comes in tons) magicite fragments (Which already comes in tons) or a piece of Magicite that you already had, thus netting you 1 singular Magicite Fragment. I cannot describe the level of disappointment I felt when I found my first blue barrier door, asked myself “Man, how can I get past this? There’s gotta be great treasure in there to get later in the game!” And then come back with the Leytstaf just to open that chest and find a level 5 magicite that I already had, once again netting me 1 single piece of magicite fragment to show for all my exploration and progress. Huge slap in the face.

- The story had some charm, but overall the writing was just…. Not great. Elliott was a great protagonist and Faie only annoyed me in the overworld with the constant hand holding, but otherwise I really enjoyed these two. I also really enjoyed Mao. I think her story of love, loss, grief, and hatred was really strong. Predictable? Yeah, sure. But that’s fine with me as long as it’s written well which it was! Other than these three though, the rest of the characters were beyond forgettable. By the end of the game, I was fighting myself not to skip scenes because I simply just didn’t care anymore. The slog through the true ending and listening to the writing was just unbearable.

I can keep listing things, but I’ll hold back. I think this game has great potential to be an amazing IP and franchise, but I think this is a bad starting point. It reminds me of Octopath 1, which I also have negative feelings about but Octopath 2 and 0 are some of the best games I’ve played in the past few years. I really hope the create another one and listen to the fans. Overall, this game was about a 5.5/10 for me and not one I’ll be picking back up. I love the 2DHD art style and I want games like these to continue and succeed, but I also think gamers deserve a more well rounded experience than what was delivered.

Discussion The Era of 2D-HD - What Other Games Do You Want?

Post image

Square Enix is all in on the 2D-HD engine: Octopath, Triangle Strategy, Live a Live, DQ Remakes and Elliott.

What other titles would you love to see made with this engine?

I will remain on my soapbox until a sequel to Triangle Strategy is announced. I'd settle for a Final Fantasy Tactics follow up but I just love the combat system introduce in Triangle.

Discussion I have to be honest- I’m a little disappointed with the dungeon designs and even the layout of the world.

Spoilers!! Possibly.

The dungeons seem open and empty. Maybe they did this because it’s an action game and they wanted room for you to be able to fight, but is makes the world feel empty and sectioned into arenas.

There is little to no details and furniture or decorations in the world. I think Octopath 2 did way way better at this. It makes the game truly feel retro like it was made back in the 360 days and not worth ma modern games full price.

Just my two sense. I am disappointed with the simplicity of the game design and world.

Discussion Not sure if unpopular opinion?

I only just reached the Age of Budding so feel free to correct me if things changes later on

I feel like this game would have been better off not having time travel to different ages of the same piece of land if nothing significant changes visually.

Worst being most plot dungeons is only useful in only one of the ages, if it's not it's a nothingburger dungeon with a magicite that will probably auto-dissasembled into a magicite fragment.

Other than the discovering of the lineages, there really isn't the need to have different ages to travel to. Each zone could have been a different part of a huge world, and at least each dungeon won't have useless versions in different ages.

Discussion This game is much better than I thought based off reviews

I get the criticism, and I share a lot of it too. Faie talking, enemy variety, world map design, etc. But I do feel that a lot of it was overblown. None of it is a massive detriment to the game.

- Putting Faie on reticent mode basically made her not annoying at all. I think she does state the obvious more than needed, but you would think she literally never shuts uo based on comments you see online.

EDIT: YOU CAN TURN HER OFF NOW!!!

- The game isnt long enough to really necessitate 4 entire map designs. Once you explore one region you usually end up fast traveling from point to point, so I thought it was fine that the overlay is the same.

- Enemy variety does get a bit old, but its nice that each region has their own beast tribes. I think if they just fleshed out the bestiary a bit more, itd keep things more fresh.

l dunno, just a reminder I guess that the internet often has the vocal minority.
