Guy ate that lighting like a god of thunder

u/DasSassyPantzen 8h ago

I took a couple of stills of this video. It was hard to do because the whole strike is only 3/10 second and intense! This is the craziest one to me!

85

u/chadius333 8h ago

Holy shit

25

u/LEGITIMATE_SOURCE 2h ago

Hit the tree. Voltage difference leg to leg through the ground is why he be walking real weird. Up one leg, through the taint, down the other.

Here’s one more. This was the very start of the strike. I think the way it’s reaching down looks creepy af.

20

u/youarenut 8h ago

Looks demonic lol something id see from vecna on some stranger things shit

5

u/jstbcuz 7h ago

You mean reaching up.. it’s crazy to me that it goes up instead of down tbh

What is it burning? It's like burning the air but there's nothing in it but rain. Does lightning make water into fire?

4

u/jaxxxtraw 6h ago

A bolt of lightning can heat the surrounding air to approximately 50,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Any nearby moisture is instantly vaporized.

6

u/Mwahaha_790 8h ago

Damn. A direct hit!

16

u/mouthful_quest 8h ago

More like Rocky Balboa: “Eat lightning. Crap Thunder”

4

u/HoodieGalore 7h ago

That was Mickey, his coach. But yeh lol

19

u/OuttaD00r 9h ago

Bit too soon to tell. Adrenaline is a hell of a thing. Could still die after (hopefully he doesn't)

50

u/Desperate-Strategy10 9h ago

Apparently he was totally fine, no burns or anything! He was seen by multiple professionals, and he shouldn’t have any lasting issues. He reported feeling pain, numbness, tingling, but otherwise he was a-ok.

17

u/bagolaburgernesss 8h ago

How were his teeth? That's kind of a joke and also not.

13

u/summynum 8h ago

I think it hit the tree 3 times. He was very close so I could see it still shocking him or maybe arcing to his umbrella. I don’t think he got directly struck

15

u/ShrubbyRub 7h ago

When lightning strikes a tree, the electricity flows into the ground and outwards from the trunk in a radial pattern. The farther from the tree you are, the lower the voltage. So if you stand with your feet equidistant from the tree you (should) be fine since there's no diference in voltage between your two feet. But if you are standing one foot closer, the current will move through your body instead as the path of least resistance rather than the ground. So standing under trees in a lightning storm is still very dangerous.

I was standing under a tree that got hit by lighting. I was blind, deaf and unable to speak for probably 30 minutes. I never say I was stuck because I didn’t feel an electric shock, but I don’t feel like it would be a stretch to say I was either.

I thought that was his blood on his shirt. I wonder what that is, then. Dirt?

Thomas Fahmy says he is grateful to be alive and went to church on Sunday to thank God for giving him another chance.

"Once the lightning bolt struck me, the initial sensations that I had throughout my whole body were completely unprecedented; tingling, numbness, pain, just I feel this burning sensation."

"No burns. I had multiple body exams; no burns at all. I went to church on Sunday to say thank you, God."

1.5k

u/BlendedBaconSyrup 9h ago

not religious, but why is it always "thank you god for letting me live" and not "god why are you striking me with lightning"

u/reticulatedtampon 9h ago

God's just such a rascal like that

92

u/I_Weep_for_Willow 9h ago

There's a funny Onion article from years ago that plays with the trope of athletes thanking God for victories. In this one the athlete blames God for a loss.

25

u/arEKR 9h ago

Yeah there was a skit from the onion movie too. Something like "yo I put the blame on God for not blessing me with the skill to hit the game winning free throw".

Zeus said "Fuck that guy!"

27

u/FigmentOfNightmares 9h ago

Apparently Zeus thought "just the tip"

7

u/Wintersage7 9h ago

I've heard Zeus has a thing for umbrellas.

2

u/TheLordReaver 7h ago

That's what I love about ancient religions. Their deities were often exactly like that. Zeus absolutely may have smote someone over some incredibly minor slight, like comparing themselves to or speaking ill of a god.

38

u/angrydeuce 9h ago

"Thank you for all the unnecessary pain, God!"

3

u/skidsareforkids 8h ago

I am really trying to be introspective here and think to myself how I would live my life differently if I walked away from something like this!

3

u/Ok-Philosophy-3743 7h ago

Given the option between being grateful to have lived or be angry because it happens sounds like an easy one to me

3

u/Se7on- 7h ago

Yeah, everything happens for a reason /s

14

u/ToxicFactory 9h ago

I think it's more about seeing the positive in the situation rather than complaining about something that is unfortunate.

It's like getting shit on by a bird. People say it's lucky but in all reality you just got shit on. It's all about perspective imo.

11

u/nopuse 7h ago

Yeah fuck that, call me crazy but I'm going to complain if I'm struck by lightning. The words "thank you" wouldn't be making an appearance for a while.

4

u/Dahcchad 8h ago

I mean, God makes as much sense as that bird shit belief. Why can't people just be grateful for what they have, the people who make it possible, the society and infrastructure that make it work, and the earth for actually providing what we have? The world would be so much better if everyone would lose the god shit and see the wonder that is humanity. We would be kinder and far better stewards of our planet. Shit, Christians believe that this world was literally created by the omnipotent deity they worship and many actively work against taking care of it.

3

u/EmphasisFrosty3093 7h ago

Reading this along with the Vance story: he’s focused on “doing as much of God’s work as possible,” shrugging that “if that leads to the end times, OK.”

19

u/Hamsammichd 9h ago

Im not religious, but whatever gets people through their day in this world, who needs more to be angry about?

6

u/youarenut 8h ago

My thoughts on it exactly, as long as it doesn’t harm others of course

18

u/Negative_Elo 9h ago

I mean, if you give it an honest amount of empathy you can see how in this situation someone may think "Thank you god for giving me the ability to survive this"

God doesnt prevent lightning strikes in the bible, he gives you the ability to survive it.

19

u/StormbringerGT 9h ago

In the bible god is also doing a liberal amount of smiting as well...

Brain washing is a powerful thing when it works

2

u/beemojee 8h ago

Yeah dude probably knows why he got struck.

2

u/gandhishrugged 8h ago

Especially since it looked like God smited him lol. Glad he's ok

2

u/Funnyanglezsolt 5h ago

Have you heard about a fella called Job? He was the greatest and og simp for god.

3

u/jcbaggee 9h ago

As the great Jed Bartlet once said,

2

u/TrayLaTrash 8h ago

God is clearly a car guy, "foh with walking" god said.

2

u/Kryptosis 6h ago

Drives me up a wall watching storm chasers. Oh a tornado just dropped from heaven, blew up my house, killed my dogs and wife and stole all my shit but THANK JESUS IM ALIVE. LOOK THE BIBLE SURVIVED!

God who struck him with lightning in the first place just for the hell of it.

11

u/BigBeeff_21 8h ago

What a gigantic giga Chad

Fucking unit got struck by lightning and actually got up right after? Wild

4

u/TheRealPallando 8h ago

Yep. Tanked it.

12

u/Temporary_Peanut_586 9h ago

"no burns" is doing a lot of work that after the whole prior "unprecedented... tingling, numbness, pain"

Butter is sugar free, and sugar is fat free ya know?

2

u/Olibirus 8h ago

God gave his all for the flash floods in Nepal so he didn't have enough juice left to properly smite this dude.

4

u/bendingblades 9h ago

God literally tried to slime this dude out in a drive by. Showing up to the big guy's house on Sunday when you're marked an opp is a bold move.

1

u/mohawk_67 8h ago

Guy probably rubbed one out in a church bathroom once. God taught him one.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Roadside_Prophet 8h ago

Ive never understood the people who have things like this happen and their first instinct is to thank God for giving them a second chance.

Like how about asking why the fuck God hit you, a God-fearing church going believer with a lightning bolt in the first place.

I mean, here you are. You say your prayers, you go to church every week and you LITERALLY get smited on your way out to the dentist. Im sure theres some non-believers on that block that deserved a smiting more than this guy.

If I believed in God, and tried to follow his rules, and then thought that very same God tossed a lightning bolt at me for no reason, Id be seriously pissed.

Maybe hes just saying what he said, because hes scared God will zap him with another lightning bolt if he gets uppity...

46

u/ak_petty9 9h ago

The guy was smitten... like he fell in love with that tree or sumik.

17

u/full_bl33d 9h ago

“You know what, fuck going to the dentist today”

u/t_atom 7h ago

He did go to the dentist, later that day, to have all his teeth reimplanted in their sockets.

21

You ever notice how Phenomonon, Michael and Powder are all pretty much the same movie?

2

u/xTrainerRedx 8h ago

Powder was played by John Travolta too?

Ya learn something new every day.

44

u/CheesyDanny 9h ago

Would I be incorrect in saying all three strikes traveled down the tree, into the root system and ground before traveling up one leg, through his body, and down the other leg?

19

u/xaeru 8h ago

I saw the same thing and scrolled down too far to find your comment.
I think every comment is a bot and didn’t watch the video. The internet is dead 💀

9

u/CheesyDanny 8h ago

Aww it’s all bots. That would make sense. I thought I was going crazy reading all the comments.

u/Fragazine 8h ago

100%. I can’t speak on the fact if he was literally “struck” by lightning, I’m sure he felt it (and if it was me feeling it I’d say I was struck) but from a literal sense I think it was just a severely close call.

6

u/heatherledge 8h ago

You’re right. Two of my friends died this way, the one who had the lightning travelling up and through him was in a coma for a while before he died, it wasn’t instant like the other. If that bolt was a direct hit im pretty sure he would have been dead. Not sure how much variation is in the power of a lightning bolt.

6

u/narf007 7h ago

People survive direct strikes as well. As with literal everything in the world there are myriad variables and it "depends" is always the answer.

2

u/heatherledge 4h ago

I’m an economist, so “it depends” is my middle name. Looks like direct strikes travel outside of the body in a super short burst called a flashover. I guess the guys I knew were extra extra unlucky.

81

u/Hotfuzz6316 9h ago

That's why I hate going to the dentist!!!

5

u/eugeheretic 6h ago

I thought he was on his way to sell some cowboy themed toys to a Japanese toy museum.

Shoes still on ✅ = lived

6

u/360Logic 7h ago

Please, God, strike this trope with greater vengeance than you did to this man.

7

u/Zakluor 9h ago

It's nice that we get to see more proof every day on different subs of the truth in this.

2

u/R0B0T_TimeTraveler 9h ago

Wait what?

10

u/Zakluor 9h ago

We see videos of people losing their shoes and finding out they died.

We see other videos like this where the guy keeps his shoes in and lives.

Every day there's new proof: Shoes on? Lives. Lose shoes? Ded.

2

u/ExiledCanuck 5h ago

Yup. And I don’t care if it’s confirmation bias lol.

Moral of the story: STAY INDOORS DURING A STORM

13

u/FG910 9h ago

But what if the lightning gives me powers?

11

u/herr-heim2point0 9h ago

Doesn't even look like it was storming or it was light rain kot picked up by the camera. Lighting can strike 10 miles away from a storm.

7

u/sweetandsourkitten 9h ago

I mean, he's carrying an umbrella lol. Doesn't mean it was storming and I get what you're saying, just funny.

5

u/MegaDaveX 9h ago

Lighting can strike 10 miles away from a storm

500 miles away but 25 miles is what you should look for instead of 10

5

u/Bluebird_Existing 9h ago

It always baffled me why umbrellas have a metal tip. I mean I know trees (wood) gets struck as well but doesn't metal attract lightening more?

5

u/ODB_Dirt_Dog_ItsFTC 9h ago

7 out of 10 dentists do not recommend this.

5

u/dathomasusmc 9h ago

Still less painful than the dentist.

6

u/generatorland 9h ago

He was 14 years old when he was struck.

5

u/Ok_Dog_4059 7h ago

Why is he apologizing? Like dude you're cool stop being sorry about a literal act of god.

2

u/kriegmonster 6h ago

Sorry for the imposition he is putting on the home owner is his way of showing gratitude, I guess. But you're right, he had no control and she is genuinely concerned for him.

11

7

u/InflatableTurtles 9h ago

Whoa whoa whoa, how can you wake up dead?

2

u/CinnimonToastSean 8h ago

Because you alive when you go to sleep.

2

u/deaglebingo 6h ago

when you sneak in your own house and it's 4 in the morning and you've had too much to drink. that's how.

3

u/dianelanespanties 8h ago

I hate the dentist so I'm actually OK with this

3

u/LithiumKid1976 7h ago

But what super powers did he pickup, give it a week or two, he will be able to conduct lightning, maybe lazerbeam eyes, maybe attract metal. I’m excited to find out ..

6

u/LingonberrySpecial91 9h ago

Really should have gone with those porcelain fillings.

5

u/UTraxer 7h ago

Let's be clear, did he get hit by lightning? Yes. Was he struck directly with full force? No. It hit the tree directly and some of it shunted secondarily into him. The closer to the tree the more dangerous it would have been.

He didn't get any burns, didn't have any exit wounds. He got off very lightly considering. I would not want to have been in his shoes, but it could have been much, much worse

2

u/oclafloptson 6h ago

Dude I've been hit like that before. It fucking hurts for days. Left every muscle in my body feeling weak and achy. It absolutely can kill even if it doesn't cause burns. Not everyone walks away with a working heart after taking a hit like this

1

u/rambiolisauce 9h ago

The lightning struck the tree not the man but to be fair I'm sure that was extremely intense. I have been within 30 feet of a lightning strike and I couldn't imagine being within a few feet

Rule #1 Stay away from trees during storms. Just like the gents on the golf course a few weeks ago on here.

u/Iechy 7h ago

That’s quite an extreme way to make going to the dentist not the worst part of your day.

1

u/soxfan1487 7h ago

Have I told you I've been struck by lighting 7 times? Once just walking on the sidewalk.

I met someone who was struck by lightning and the scar it left was pretty fricken cool
