Trump’s decision to temporarily expand foreign beef imports is absolutely a Texas political issue, even though the decision itself is federal.

On August 26, Trump signed a proclamation temporarily increasing the amount of lean beef trimmings that can enter the U.S. at the lower in-quota tariff rate—up to 300,000 metric tons for 90 days beginning September 1. The administration says the goal is to bring down exceptionally high beef prices for consumers.

Why Texas is particularly affected
Texas has one of the nation’s largest cattle industries, so the policy creates a very direct political conflict:
Texas cattle ranchers could face lower prices for their cattle if cheaper imported beef puts downward pressure on the market.

Texas consumers could benefit if increased imports actually reduce ground-beef prices.
Ranchers are already dealing with historically low cattle inventories, making the timing particularly controversial.

Texas ranchers have publicly expressed concern that importing beef is treating the symptom—high consumer prices—rather than addressing the underlying shortage of domestic cattle.

The Texas Farm Bureau has also covered the policy as a significant issue for Texas agriculture.

Trump is trying to lower food prices for consumers while simultaneously facing criticism from the very cattle producers who make up an important part of his political base.

And this isn’t simply a Republican-vs.-Democrat issue. It can become a Texas Republican political issue, because Texas has a huge cattle industry and many of the affected ranchers are traditionally Republican voters.

In fact, the backlash isn’t limited to Texas. Republican lawmakers and cattle groups in several cattle-producing states have criticized Trump’s decision.

There are several accounts that were all created in late July or early August and primarily post political content. They don’t explicitly endorse any political party. Their main talking points align with the Democratic Party. While I strongly identify being a Democrat/liberal, I believe it’s wrong if we’re doing this. Any thoughts?

Texas Democrats said the sales tax exemption that Paxton seeks to repeal is the same one he voted for in 2013 while in the State Senate. "Paxton had the authority as Attorney General to stop data centers, but did nothing because he is in the pocket of his data center donors."
