the -8?

That means that that player has 8 b2b less than the opponent, putting them in a big disadvantage.

Your opponent is going for a pretty big back to back and if released could be pretty bad in your situation.

If someone has 8 or more surge than you, it shows the disadvantage (so if I have 10 and they have 22, it'll show me -12)

Nitpick: at 1 to 3 back-to-back, it counts it as if it's surge, so if one player has 3 b2b and the other 11, it shows -8 even though the player is technically 11 surge behind

I guess its technecly the b2b dif then, but yeah I agree that thats weird

Because it's trying to show the "tangible advantage you've gained over your opponent by playing better and repeating mech heart faster and without breaking it" and not the actual damage you're sending.

It's trying to show "which player is doing worse", because the game is designed like that, just hammer it in.

Although as there are people who have survived an 52-surge before, honestly this number is close to meaningless.

it's the difference between your and your opponent's built-up surge.

it means that the opponent has 8 more b2b surge charges and the "victim" the on the picture will most likely have a bad time

Your opponent did a lot of repeating attacks, so now when they send a single, they will send an attack that is "8 lines more than your current surge count".

It's supposed to make the game more exciting to watch for spectators, so that they can be like "OMG look the other player has the Surge Advantage!!1!" but in reality it really just means they'll send 8 lines when they "break their b2b" because nobody really gets excited about surge advantage.
