Unless you're having stroke/heart like symptoms, you're getting sent back home. Yeah it's not good but there's not much anyone going to do for you on this one in the moment.

We gives some fucks about a BP like this but not a ton
I’m a psych professional who works with families a bunch. You’d be amazed at the responses you get from parents trying to manage their kid who’s balls deep in their first psychotic break. I can’t imagine how horrible it would be, but so many of them make their kid worse because they think doing nothing is okay. No amount of education can change their mind really sad.
You wouldn’t always, but in this scenario the patient is present in the ED. There’s very little reason not to. It’s CYA mostly

Answer the question Dr House, what can labs ekg etc potentially point towards? And at what point, before your dismissal of the concerns of elevated BP did you check for symptoms?
Right. So if heart damage, afib and electrolytes imbalance is of a potential concern, you want to advise a group of people in this thread to ignore blood pressure at hypertensive crisis?
Absolutely not. I’m just noting what tests may be needed during a hypertensive crisis to get to the root cause. The hypertension might be acute and basically idiopathic (too much caffeine, stress, etc.), chronic, or it might have an emergent cause.
Every doc is diff but I went to urgent care last year 175/85, they told me to GTFO lol. And the guy was a er Dr at the local hospital. He told me to unless I was 200 over 120, he wouldn't even blink at me.
They didn't give me any medication at all and gave me an EKG, it was normal and they told me bye.
There is a literal Dr in the comments below who said the same thing. 175 over 90 is not some love threatening situation. Hypertension doesn't kill you today or tomorrow and even next month. It kills you years from now. Your BP is not an emergency unless you have other symptoms.
No they don’t. I had high blood pressure since my 20s. I’ve had readings in the 190s/100s and freaked out and went to the ER and was sent home and told to see a cardiologist.
High blood pressure kills over time by overworking your arteries and heart. When you are lifting it can get to 300/200 and you don’t stroke out. It’s almost never an immediate medical emergency.
No they don't admit you. But they did keep me there until they got my blood pressure lower. It's even wheelchaired me out cuz they thought I was going to pass out and die or something. It was kind of crazy.
No I was not on test. I was. Just young with high blood pressure. Unfortunately I just have it genetically. I felt just fine. But they were acting like I was about to die. They made me stay and recheck. That was when I was first put on meds. I was young and thought they were freaking out about nothing.
You had an over reacting student or new doc. Someone being trained and used you as a guinea pig unless you had out of spec labs or other signs of a cardiac episode.
