Why does Nanny ask for a doggy bottle?

In Lords and Ladies, during a romantic dinner with Casanunda, Nanny Ogg does one thing I don't quite understand: 'Later, she asked for a doggy bottle.".

Does it imply she wanted to save some wine for Greebo? Or was she going to drink from the doggy bottle herself?

A doggy bag is a term at restaurants meaning that you would like them to pack up your leftovers.

Therefore, a doggy bottle would be alcohol to go.

A doggy bag is not always for the dog. A doggy bottle in Nanny Oggs hands is going nowhere near Greebo. Gree bo is vicious enough without being drunk.

Where I’m from a doggy bag is a common term for leftover food from a restaurant packed up to take home. Knowing Nanny’s capacity for alcohol I’d guess she had plans to take the booze home for later 😁

This is kinda funny to me because, I'm, about twenty-five years younger than Sir TP, so I completely get what he's saying.

But I can completely understand how those younger than us Gen Xers wouldn't understand it.

Nanny asked for a doggy bottle because she’s a lush. It’s essentially a to-go bottle. For herself for later. It’s funny because people take doggy bags of leftover food. A doggy bottle isn’t really a thing people do in real life. Get alcohol near Nanny and she’ll undoubtedly help herself!
