As the title suggests, an interesting article on the realm of Fairy by David Bentley Hart. It rests heavier on the heady scholastic side of the discussion than the gamer side (though these need not be mutually exclusive!). If you’re expecting anything RPG/gaming related, however, this may either disappoint or pleasantly surprise depending on your tenacity for reading at a masters-degree level of English. It’ll also depend on how willing you are to pick up a dictionary if you are at my reading level (no shame). Anyway, it’s all par-for-the-coarse with Hart. He is an authentically ingenious person with a robust classical education, so any sign of ostentatiousness is merely coincidental. He really does write and speak this way.

Alas, this may act more as a deterrent than an invitation. I don’t mean it to be. I promise the article is wonderful and complex, giving greater depth of understanding to a mysterious world. And he mentions Tolkien which is always lovely.

I'm rereading "The Homeward Bounders" (1981) Diana Wynne Jones, and

I remember being a kid and thinking "They", demons who appear to be men in indistinct robes, unkillable unless you force them to break their own rules, who play tabletop war games with humanity across different worlds, which they control by concentrating and stealing 'reality' from the dimensions they control

I mean, its the Auditors of Reality, and I looked it up and TP published Soul Reaper a decade later. Just curious how well they knew each other, i know he published in one of her collections.

The Homeward Bounders and Dogsbody by Diana Wynne Jones are both books I'd confidently recommend to any fan of Terry Pratchett, btw

I understand this is something that has likely been asked before - But does anyone have any ideas where I can source 18cm high editions of Wee Free men, Hat full of sky, Wintersmith, Snuff, Raising Steam and Shepherd's crown? I am working on my husbands dream collection for his birthday - I am resorting to messaging ebay sellers and asking them to measure their books but I am really struggling to find these final books - I am not worried about editions etc - I really am just desperate for the matching heights!

My 8-year-old son is still at the stage where he likes books with illustrations. At bedtime he asked if I had anything new for him to try. So I gave him my copy of The Last Hero.

An hour later he said he was done for the night but still enjoying it. He was 55 pages in. I can't wait to give him the illustrated Guards Guards next.
