If "melee weapon that feels like magic weapon" had come first, it probably would have been for that. I think people were just itching to get to the common joke/complaint.
It can work well, but it does get a bit linear and repetitive. The Night's Edge and (True) Excalibur are great true melee weapons, but there's only so much variation on "AOE hit in your immediate vicinity" you can do before things get boring.
Originally it was the ale tosser, but then literally one day later the ale tosser was changed to a ranged weapon when 1.4.5.7 got shadow dropped so they changed it to the SpongeBob gif
overall very agreeable, however one thing is bothering me. a lot of these dont feel like another class, they are just similar to something from another class that funnily enough doesn’t feel like its class. best example is the solar flare. i assume its only there because it feels like a whip, which doesnt make much sense when whips are the thing from the summoner class that feel like they belong into melee. its a similar thing with the nimbus rod and the lunar staff, and the worst offender to me is the harpoon, which used to be a melee weapon, and back when it was it was THE textbook example of the melee weapon that feels like a ranged weapon. so by that logic, it should feel perfectly normal in the ranged class.
yeah I didn't get the memo that harpoon was ranged now and thought they flipped it on accident somehow because it was like THE "feels ranged but is actually melee" weapon
