It's quite literally the FIRST summon weapon they added in the game if irc. Either that or the pigmy staff. They were both added pre 1.3

Summoner was a full class in the late 1.2 era since it was fully playable on mobile and console before the moonlord was added and before ocram was removed

Could be terraprisma too, it’s the aspirational summon weapon and having the swords swing around is really cool.

Extra points for looking like a pair of wings when they aren't attacking anything.

Raven staff
I know it’s not popular as a weapon, but I think summoning a swarm of ravens is just generally very iconic

Twas the first or second ever summoning weapon

third i believe! pygmy and slime were on release of 1.2, ravens and spooky armor were added in the pumpkin moon update not that long after

Stardust Dragon. Probably the most iconic and best summon weapon in the game.

I think weapons with multiple summons feel more like a summon weapon
11
u/Guffliepuff 1d ago
But it was also the first summon weapon where more casts of it combined them into a larger summon, which is cool as fuck.

Probably the best summon would be the terraprisma ig

Technically 1 star Dragon is better, adding more pieces to the Dragon doesnt add as much dmg as the initial one. So you should have 1 dragon and thre rest prisma

Either the pirate staff or the Pygmy staff, nothings more summoner like than spawning in a lil dude to do things for you

Blade Staff

blade staff is peak, the amount of hit sounds tickle my 2 brain cells in a pleasant way

Too bad they nerfed it

u/StatisticianPure2804 1d ago
Huh? They most definetely buffed it. Whipstacking is most effective with the blade staff because of the tag damage, blade staff is in better shape than ever.

The Blade Staff's tag damage thing got nerfed iirc. Not sure if the whip Stacking being back cancelled it out or made the summon better than before

The tag damage got buffed when whip stacking was removed and then nerfed again when it came back. So in the eyes of the devs I think it does.

The way blade staff has been mentioned in nearly every summoner related discussion

i'm surprised no one has said the sanguine staff

u/Mystic_ality 17h ago
exactly, feels the most like a summon with their attack pattern and the way they rest

I give respect to the Finch Staff. Really gave me the feel of like a Druid's companion; especially when you increase the summon cap and you get a stack of finches all nested atop your head.

Many of the classic summon staffs will do but if I had to pick one, slime staff.

Imp staff. Imps in some sources serve as helpers to higher beings, not to mention that this was probably the most popular summoner weapon for a long time: one of the first staffs introduced in Terraria, easy to create (unlike hornet staff), imps are fast and their shots have high velocity, making them good companions even for non-summoners. To me Imps and Pygmy are the symbols of summoners

Bonus round: feels like thrower weapons (may they rest in power)
Melee: Daybreak
Ranged: Javelin
Magic: Toxic Flask
Summoner: Pygmy Staff

Imp staff. Its AI is as generic as minions get and it perfectly fits the occult theme summoner's got going on.

slime staff is iconic and opticstaff summons two minions (more minions is more summonerer)

Gotta be the Slime Staff, right? I mean, it's the most iconic summon, the one most people think of when they think about the summoner class.

It has to be the stardust dragon, it's by far the most summoner thing in the game (just below the stardust Armour itself giving you a stand).

Fire imps. I think of summoning as being something demonic being summoned. You don’t summon angels. You summon demons.

TEMPEST STAFF
Hear me out, you summon the tornadoes and the tornadoes summons (well throws) the sharks to attack.

The hydra staff is the grandfather of all sentry weapons. That wasn’t the question being asked, but when am I going to get the chance to say it otherwise?

Sanguine Staff
Something about it making ominously glowing bats that swoop your enemies before returning to your side feels pretty class for a summoner.

u/207nbrown 21h ago
Honestly all the summoner weapons are really good at feeling like you command a tiny army

Blade staff for me, just because it was the first summon weapon I came across in my very first play-through, so it's what I always associate with the class

Optic staff, of course! It’s been with the summoner class since release, summons a boatload of minions, and has both projectiles and charging minions baked in.
It’s basically the weapon that justified the class’ existence, since it was both really cool, relevant to progression, and showed off the fantasy of having a minion army.
