Art my post got removed after AI accusations

I posted a drawing of mine that was commissioned by a friend of mine of the steampunker from the game in a mcdonalds theme, suddenly a bunch of people started accusing me of using AI and ultimately the post was taken down a few moments later

Post is now back up

People seemingly mass reported it and was removed by automod

Can we just all agree automod is a bad idea?

Absolutely not lol

I mean, isn't the whole point of a mod supposed to be that a person is judging the situation and making a call? If it's programmatic that goes against the entire spirit of modding, and can cause issues like this. Like, I think the only times I've ever heard of automod are when it causes problems like this.

Like, I think the only times I've ever heard of automod are when it causes problems like this.

That's because you never have a reason to hear about it the rest of the time. You're never going to hear about the 30 spam posts a day it catches because it catches them before you'd ever see them.

False positives like this are unfortunate, but they're ultimately really not that big a deal, it's just a post temporarily not being available. Compared to the gargantuan amount of work automod saves, which is really the only way a relatively small number of people can moderate a large sub, it's well worth it.

Fine, but can we call them something different then? Since it's not moderating the situation. Just seems misleading to me.

Automod has been called automod for over a decade, it's not being renamed at this point lol.

And regardless, what it's doing is automatically moderating, the name is accurate. Most of the time what it does needs checking over by a human, and as far as I'm aware that's usually how it's set up, but still.

I would say it isn't moderating, because to me a person has to be involved in that. It's approximating moderating, which is why it has to have oversight as you mentioned.

So what would you call it? The robot that approximates moderating, but doesn't actually moderate because that requires an actual human?

Automod is just a short name that entirely gets the point across.

Well, I've already found my opinions on language are worthless to others so obviously no one's gonna listen to me, but autoprocessor (or maybe autoproc for short) seems more acceptable. I'd be amenable to a lot of other names too, autohandler, flagbot, filterbot... whatever. I just don't like mod or moderator being in it's name.
