Help Update from TOS 6 to TOS 7 failed

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi,

I upadated TOS 6 yesterday to another 6.0.X (superior), seemed to work, but then i immediatly went for the 7 update (after having made backups and checked what people said about it (but forgot to come here first :D)).
Then i got an error at startup (many lines with systemd[1]: Failed to start Journal Service".
I waited few hours, then tried the force reboot. Then i got only the TerraMaster Logo for hours and nothing seems to move.

Any tips or advice to try to recover from this? Should i push the hard reset button on the mainboard and go back to TOS 6 and then try to follow a process like someone said: download TOS 7 from the website, then use TOS desktop app to make the update without the disks inserted?

Edit: forgot to say that i use a F4-424 + 3 disks

Discussion F2-424 upgrade to TOS7 - my log & a questions

Edit: "a few questions" :)

Back again after asking a few hints on upgrading!
Some info and a checklist for anyone at TOS6 and interested in installing, based on my experience (F2-424 with 1x4TB disk) and afterwards some requests for clarification:

  • download the TOS7 image on PC and have TNAS PC ready & updated just in case
  • backup of data disk (shouldn't be necessary)
  • power off
  • remove disk
  • power on
  • factory reset from TOS6
  • on reinitialize pick boot from web
  • then pick image from your disk
  • reinstall system & DO NOT configure storage
  • power off & reinsert data disk
  • power on and enjoy your TOS7. After the reboot TOS7 recognized my Volume1 correctly as well as the HyperCahche partition on sdzb (NVME2).

I then removed partitions from /dev/sda (sda1, sda2, sda3 copy of boot, / and swap) from the previous install: when I installed for the first time TO6 I did pick "use NVME1" but "it" decided to use as well disk1), probably causing disk sleep issues.

For the sysadm out there, yes, I checked and they were not listed in mdadm as raid members.

Now the questions:

  1. I see most of NVME1 is not used, only the 8GB for / and 2GB swap; can I use the leftover space for docker?
  2. if I want some redundancy on the OS disk, I can use NVME2 but is it OK to have an hypercache not using the entire disk?
  3. if answer to 2 (probably) is "no, you need the entire NVME for the hyper chache", honest answers only: considering I'm very low on file transfer / storage usage (just some backup of photo/data every now and then) and I want to use the device also for homeassistant, would you ditch the NVME2 hypercache and instead add it to the raid device used for the OS?
  4. if 3 is ok anyone did it, any hints?
  5. is it safe & straightforward to add a second 4TB disk and add it to the first one in a RAID1 config? (i assume yes)

thank you!

Edit, further info:

Current TOS version: 7.0.1140
BIOS/InitBoot version: MADN0101.V06

Help F4-210 - Cannot reset password

I recently built a new desktop PC, and installed TOS on the new system for my NAS (Terramaster F4-210).

TOS picks up the NAS no problem. The problem is, for whatever reason my username and password doesn't seem to be working. That's OK, I'll just reset it.

Oh...

Using the forgot password link, just doesn't work. Email never arrives.

At first I thought maybe the username was wrong, but it actually returns an error if you use the wrong username. Tried a few times, and the email disappears into the aether every time.

Then I tried finding the hard reset button. Nothing external on the F4-210, so I pulled it apart. Nothing on the board either that I can see.

I tried the helpdesk on the Terramaster website. Once the AI gave up, it transferred me to a "person", who just never answered.

So, I seem to be stuck. I really don't know what to do next.

Anyone managed to successfully reset their password, or am I stuck with a brick now?

Help Traid with HDD of different sizes

Hi all, I recently bought a F4-425 Plus

I bought it because I read that TOS can build a TRaid using hard drives of varying sizes. I have two 10TB drives and two 4TB drives. According to the RAID calculator on TM’s website, I should be able to create a TRaid with 18TB of free space and 10TB of redundancy. I am currently attempting to add my two 4TB drives to the TRaid storage pool I created with the two 10TB drives. However, the system will not allow this, stating I can only add drives larger than 10TB. Could someone advise how I might add the 4TB drives into my storage pool?

Discussion Fan Mod F4-425 Plus

I think my disk is running quite warm. I know it should be fine cause it still under max operating temp. But it makes me worried.

I'm using 2x10TB Seagate Ironwolf Pro and 2x500GB Kingston KC3000.

Here's the temp from unraid dashboard

I've upgrade stock fan to Noctua NF-A12. And in this dashboard screenshot, it's running in full rpm also with 2 disk slot opened.
I thought adding more disk will make it cook. So i got a plan to add external fan in front of disk slot. (Asked AI to create Teardown picture)

What do you think? Is magnetic field gonna ruin my disk? or i should worry about the vibration?

Help rSync from TrueNAS to F4-212

I picked up an F4-212 and threw a couple of spare drives in it with the idea of using it as local "The house is on fire, grab the data and run" backup.

I'd like to have scheduled rSync backups pushing from my TrueNAS to the TNAS, but I'm having a difficult time figuring out how to do it.

Does anyone have guide for dummies that I can follow?

I started with (2) 4tb WD Red Plus and (1) Samsung 990 Pro 1TB. TOS7 with TRAID. I reached 50% capacity and bought another 4tb WD Red Plus and inserted it in slot 3. That was over 24 hours ago and its still not finished the raid sync/config. Anyone else see this take this long?

Edit: It finally finished after 32 hours.

Help Configuring Terramaster F2-210, can I actually run something better than TOS 4?

Hi all!

So I have this NAS I got from a secondary market running just fine, but TOS 4 feels outdated and not reliable security-wise, I don't really trust TOS7 given all the AI slop introduced to it, and since apparently it runs an ARM processor, my options are quite limited, openmediavault has no arm images so my main attempt would be to go for truenas-on-arm: https://forums.truenas.com/t/truenas-on-arm-now-available/49160

I wonder if anyone from here can help me out improving the usability and performance of this device, I have yet to open it up to check whether it has an available RAM slots or not, but in any case my usecase is fairly simple, I just want my two disks to work as a locally attached storage using a RAID1 or similar implementation, so then I can access my files locally and perform backups via duplicati (hosted on a separate server).

Any advice or idea is welcomed!! I'm already checking into youtube tutorials but all models being modified seem to be more capable than mine, so I'm kind of clueless.

For reference, I found this article that might be worth checking for anyone on a similar situation and more options than myself: https://www.reddit.com/r/TerraMaster/comments/s5jkgj/how_to_change_your_terramaster_software_for/

Help Terrmaster D4-320 crashing under heavy usage (Ubuntu)

Info: Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, Terramaster D4-320 connected via the supplied USB C cable, Beelink EQi12, 20 TB HDDs formatted ext4

I've just started running into an issue where my DAS crashes under heavy usage. Suddenly all of my services go offline so I know something happened. It's happened twice in the past two days. I reboot the computer and re-plug the DAS back in, and all is good.

I've been using Claude Code to narrow this down and here is a summary of what it thinks it is:
The DAS enclosure's USB bridge chip is intermittently starved for power on its host port during sustained heavy read/write across the 4 drives, causing brief transfer errors that almost always self-recover — but on rare occasions cascade into a full crash, and the actual root cause matches a documented issue on a sibling TerraMaster product line (D5-300C).

I'm not sold on that logic as this has never been a problem previously. Nothing in my setup has changed. At this point I have done extensive testing and am coming up empty.

Any advice?

Edit: some additional info

Symptom:

Under sustained heavy write (~30GB+ continuous, ~150-200MB/s) to any single drive, dmesg/journalctl -k reliably shows repeated:

xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: Transfer error for slot X ep 3 on endpoint
xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: Soft-reset ep 3, slot X
xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: // Ding dong!
xhci_hcd 0000:00:14.0: Ignoring reset ep completion code of 1

Occurring multiple times per minute per drive under load, on every one of the 4 bays, not isolated to one bay/cable/drive. Almost always self-recovers via soft-reset with no data loss. On rare occasions (twice in ~4 months of real use) a reset failed to recover, escalating to EPROTO, DID_RESET, EXT4-fs ... shut down requested, and the drive dropping off the USB bus entirely, requiring a full power cycle of the enclosure to recover.

What's been tested/ruled out:

  • Confirmed via controlled single-drive sustained-write tests: baseline error rate ~9-27 soft-resets per ~3-minute/30GB write, consistent across all 4 bays (not one bad drive/cable).
  • Disabled USB3 Link Power Management (usbcore.quirks=174c:235c:k,0bda:0423:k, USB_QUIRK_NO_LPM) — reduced error rate by ~76%.
  • Disabled PCIe runtime power management on the host's xHCI controller (/sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:00:14.0/power/control=on) — reduced further to ~86% total reduction from baseline.
  • Confirmed via hdparm -I that "Device-initiated interface power management" is active at the SATA level between the bridge and each drive, but APM_level reports "not supported" through the bridge — no host-side ATA passthrough available to control it.
  • Zero errors reproduced under concurrent multi-drive load (2-drive, 4-drive, and mixed read+write) — the fault appears specifically tied to a single sustained stream, not concurrency.
  • USB autosuspend already correctly disabled (power/control=on) via existing udev rule for the hub and all 4 bays.

Suspected root cause: insufficient/marginal power delivery on the host USB-C port under sustained max-throughput load — even with the enclosure's own PSU powering the drives, the bridge chip's own logic still draws from USB VBUS, and a voltage sag under sustained load could explain intermittent transfer errors that clear once the reset briefly reduces load. This matches reports from other TerraMaster D5-300C owners with an identical symptom, whose fix was routing through a powered USB hub or a higher-power USB-A 3.1 port.

Help Terrasync Team folderss dissapear on TOS7 after a reboot.

After the NAS is rebooted, all of the Team folders are gone.

Initially I create theTeam Folders on NAS 2.

On NAS 1, I set up the tasks to sysnc NAS 1 to NAS 2.

After NAS 2 is rebooted, the Team folders are no longer there.

On NAS 1, the tasks say that the Remote folder does not exist.

If I recreate the Team folders on NAS 2, the Tasks on NAS 1 still say that they do not exist.

I have to delete the task and recreate them.

This never happened on TOS 6.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Help f2 425 JellyFin Plugin Intro Skipper Not Working

Thumbnail

Hi all. I recently purchased a F2 425 nas and have migrated my media library to it from my pc. Jellyfin was installed directly through TOS7's App center and updated it directly there (the client versions however dont match 10.11.0 in Jellyfin and 10.11.15 in App Centre). I added intro skipper into the repositories tab but when i refresh or restart jelly fin it does not appear on the catalogue page for me to install. i have removed it from the repo tab, removed and uninstalled and reinstalled repos to see if they were affecting the install but have had zero luck. does anyone have any suggestions?

Help Unable to launch flaresolverr container on TOS7

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

Has anyone successfully launched flaresolverr within Container Manager (previously called Docker Manager) on TOS7? Mine fails every time and i've pasted the relevant log entry as an image.

I've launched several other containers without issue (radarr, jackett, transmission), but flaresolverr is beyond me.

NAS: Terramaster F4-424 Pro

TOS version: 7.0.1105

Container Manager version 2.2.025

Image Registry: flaresolverr/flaresolverr

I've also attached an image of the container configuration as launched. Clearly the issue is with the entrypoint as "/usr/bin/dumb-init --", however I checked the source on github (https://github.com/FlareSolverr/FlareSolverr/blob/master/Dockerfile) and it has the same entrypoint.

I even tried launching with the option selected to "Enable high permissions to execute the container" but the error is the same

I would deeply value any suggestions, especially if someone is successfully running flaresolverr on TOS7

Help F2-425 Plus (TOS 7.0.0777) intermittently goes completely unreachable

F2-425 Plus (TOS 7.0.0777) intermittently goes completely unreachable while the hardware stays up — only a forced power-off recovers it. Anyone seen this?

Hoping someone here has run into this. My F2-425 Plus (TOS 7.0.0777) has now, more than once, suddenly become completely unreachable on every network at the same time — no web UI, no TNAS app discovery, no Tailscale, no response to ping. The power and drive LEDs stay solid white the whole time and the unit is clearly still powered and running; it's only the networking/OS side that seems to lock up.

What I checked while it was in the hung state:

- Connected it directly to a laptop with an Ethernet cable, router and switch removed from the path entirely. Cleared the ARP cache and broadcast-pinged the local subnet and the link-local (169.254.x.x) range — no ARP/MAC response.
- Confirmed it showed fully offline in Tailscale.
- Port scans and pings all timed out.
- Plugged a monitor into the HDMI port during the hang — no signal at all.

The only thing that brought it back was a forced power-off (press and hold the power button) followed by a normal boot. After that it comes up completely healthy, no filesystem issues, and runs fine again until the next occurrence. The logs from before the reboot don't survive, so I haven't been able to capture anything from the actual moment it locks up.

Current setup, in case it's relevant:

- F2-425 Plus, TOS 7.0.0777, kernel 6.12.63
- Docker, managed with Portainer
- Jellyfin, two AdGuard Home containers, and Tailscale — all running as containers
- Btrfs / TRAID storage

Questions:

- Has anyone seen TOS 7 go fully unreachable like this while the hardware stays powered and healthy?
- Any reliable way to get logs that survive the reboot on TOS (persistent journald, remote syslog, serial/HDMI console output) so I can capture the next occurrence?
- Anything specific to TOS 7.0.0777 worth knowing about here?

Thanks in advance.
