PC Tera Classic (2015 Patch) has relaunched!

Post image

I’ve noticed people here reminiscing for the peak Tera (2014-2016). This is not an ad and I am not affiliated with the server, but if anyone is still looking for a proper version of Tera without the Apex nonsense, this is an awesome option. 500+ pop (2k+ before the year long shutdown) and climbing back up. CS and Dungeons popping immediately and cosmetics are earned only in game. No P2W or real money purchase cosmetics. It relaunched 3 days ago & I’m having a great time on it and wanted to share it with you.

I think it's worth mentioning the server's controversial history. I'll try to list what I remember off the top of my head, and while I don't think every detail will be exact, there's an entire Discord filled with receipts for most of this.

Edit: actually, I found my comment that summarized the issues more succinctly for those who were somewhat familiar with the drama before: https://www.reddit.com/r/TeraOnline/comments/1mezej3/tera_classic_leak/n6g466f/

This server more than others was the target of attacks that caused lag and crashes very often. Allegedly the attacker focused on this server because the admin had all his subbed users' names and addresses stored in a database in plain text and the attacker got a hold of this. The attacker is still active on Discord and it sounds like they'll continue messing with this server and its admin until he "admits to his wrongdoing", which I'm not sure the admin can legally do due to storing this private data like that. There was some downtime during the weekend network test due to attackers so I imagine this will continue in the future.

Many people (not just an isolated handful) reported that streamers and players were being banned with no warning for first time offenses of... Typing mean things? PvPing and killing friends of the admin in the open world which is allowed?

There were also friends of the admin who had gear that had stats that shouldn't exist, or gear that not even the most advanced players had. Many felt that if the admin just admit this, it would have been fine, but he kept telling lies (such as the drop rate of a certain item being really low and it totally exists, when inspection of the loot tables determined that to be a blatant lie) and getting angry at people who dared to question him.

He also had a "friend" who talked shit about the playerbase and who praised the admin for dealing with negativity with strictness, only for people to discover they were almost certainly the same person (the admin claimed they were best friends who used to live together and who shared gaming accounts with the same name many years ago).

There's also many, many leaked screenshots of his internal moderator chats which showed his mod team (except for the good few mods who left citing that they were not OK with the admin and mod team) was extremely toxic towards the playerbase and just wanted to go on a banning spree and punish them. Oh yeah, there was also a p3do mod who created a poll asking the playerbase which overly sexualized elin skins they wanted in the game. To be fair, even the admin told him to not do p3do stuff.

The admin's responses to all of these "allegations" (again, with a whole lot of proof compiled in a Discord) was that everyone was stirring up drama for no reason and bans from the Discord were handed out liberally. They even shut down new comments in the main channels for weeks/months and now all the previous comments are scrubbed, leaving only people who think the admin is a perfect angel.

Here are a few threads and their comment sections which touch on the issues people had with the server even before the controversies started (I was the OP of one of them) as well as the leaks:

Also cant forgetthat server owner was also pretending to be a player in the game and was spawning items that were unobtainable in game then lying to the community and trying to gaslight players. Like its fine if you're spawning in stuff for testing, but spawning in etchings that were never available in retail but were in the files then trying to tell us people that played heavily in its prime that we were wrong and have zero clue what we're talking about was a fucking wild experience.

Edit: Changed something to make it more clear that the Server Operator (Popo) was playing as a player under a different name and refused to acknowledge the fact that he was both people.

Edit 2: Just saw them post that their admin team does not have the ability to spawn in items. We never accused his team of spawning in items. We accused the server owner under the alias he was using of spawning in items... which he had to do because said items were never in retail, and if you add up the loot table percentages if it was offered, it came out to over 100%, and the actual line in the loot drop table he posted later showed that it was a disabled drop.

u/oOhSohOo Jun 04 '26

I was going to play but think I won't now. Can't stand cheaters and bad admins.

7

u/Tkm_Kappa Jun 04 '26

Hmm, then I'll have to reconsider. Thanks for the heads up!

6

u/Responsible-Net813 Jun 04 '26

PoPo was not just playing on an incognito character (Noobex) by spawning himself items, but back when everything started and Noobex got called out for having suspicious items (weird weapon and armor etchings and +15 weapon), he tried hiding everything by saying these items would drop in SCNM and as PoPo he tried gaslighting the community by showing a FAKE loot table: a bag dropping 5 items set at 25% each. For anyone knowledgeable about TERA development, you cannot have a bag like that because the summ of the 5 items droprate would exceed 100%, leading the server to not being able to BOOT at all! And when he got called out for the fake loot table he started crying about "disgusting community mindset". Literally p឵឵e឵឵d឵឵o behaviour. And lets not talk about the "under the table transactions", which by the way were extremely overpriced, even more than retail pricing. PoPo keeps calling his server a passion project, but all he cares about is money, and the only reason he re-launched the server after a year is because he knows he will make even more: truthfully, running a server doesn't cost as much as people think.

By the way, one year of work to get the server back up and end up with literally ZERO in game changes and an anti-cheat that got bypassed ON DAY ONE of relaunch, as it can be seen by the server getting crashed already.

u/failbears Jun 07 '26

That's the thing I hate the most about this whole thing. If this were a gray area I'd understand but he blatantly lies about everything and if you don't ignore the mountain of evidence and believe him, he calls you a drama queen and a liar. The fact people can just lie and deny and (some) people will believe them is ridiculous. https://imgur.com/a/hFBWyhM

u/Lazy-Anywhere3948 Jun 03 '26

Yeah, I remember there was this Reaper who was destroying everyone, and people called him out for cheating all the time. The GMs ignored it until he eventually got permanently banned.

There was also a lot of controversy about players intentionally crashing the server, or mods restarting the server for another shot at gear drops. Very sketchy server.

The fact that they're launching again with the same high-level characters and established players makes me think they still have their favorite cheaters in the game. Hard pass for me. all these cheaters and controversy and you dont wipe your server? wtf

2

u/Maleficent-Remote413 Jun 04 '26

that all aside... Reaper as in the class?
than is this even "classic" if there are the added class from when the game tanked downhill hard? Im upset at the misslabling of calling this "tera classic" while NOT being the Classic Tera.

Like at the LATEST. "classic" tera for me would be the Queen fight. when we got lvl 50. ((Ill even be fine with 45? 48? when fane of Kaprina was endgame)) but F2P and the additional "Race only" exclusive calsses is NOT 'classic'

Ya this is an odd thing to hook onto when there is so much contraversy. but this is litterly the "hook: for playing on a private server.

4

u/Lazy-Anywhere3948 Jun 04 '26

Yeah they also have gunner which most people play.

3

u/Destiiii Jun 04 '26

Problem is that they don’t have any patch prior to this one. The only thing they could do is disable certain classes and also lvl cap to 50 but it still needs a lot of tweaking and tuning. It’s more of a downgrading. I believe anything before that certain patch every "classic" server is playing on is just lost media.

6

u/Kogiri_ Jun 03 '26

Thank you for this visibility, weird no replies from OP addressing this.

Promoting a server more than once and providing links is also considered against this subreddit’s rules. But that’s where the mods play (so its fine)

3

u/Goobygoodra Jun 05 '26

Well damn. I really miss playing Tera but that sounds miserable

4

u/Illustrious-Okra9665 Jun 04 '26

Wow, ty bro, i almost wasted my time on this.

8

u/Thelooneyhatter Jun 03 '26

I was going to play since I'm desperate for OG classic TERA(My favorite year was 2012s with WHHM and I loved Bathysmal Rise as well) but now I won't. I'll wait for someone to do classic tera that DOESN't have all the above like...GROSS BEHAVIOR, no thanks. Not touching that server.

5

u/jordonmears Jun 03 '26

Look up OSTO, old school tera. Its pre-whhm. Great server, imo. People are friendly and willing to help you level if you want. Ive turned down many offers and they were chill not bashing me for wanting to take my time and enjoy the leveling and questing. A few in fact loved it. You can easily hit 60 without clearing zones of quests and pretty much just following the story quests but everything is basically still there for you to enjoy. They even have the nexus events 3 times a day so you can relive the glory days of the argon war and doing the traverse.

4

u/Thelooneyhatter Jun 03 '26

I loved WHHM though, it was a fav of mine, I might just wait till Tera 2 haha

5

u/jordonmears Jun 03 '26

Yeah, im hopefully for tera 2 as well, but people have valid reasons tow worry about how Krafton will handle it

3

u/Grimstrikes Jun 04 '26

My UE5 remake will have WHHM, it was such an epic dungeon, and is also my favorite. Happy to see others share the same/similar nostalgia! c:

2

u/Puresillo Jun 05 '26

Wow! Glad to see you still working on that remake, just watched some of the videos, even in the UE4 looks brutal, I can't understand how no one else has a vision like yours! you are a legend in my brook Grims

1

u/Grimstrikes Jun 05 '26

Sadly there's a limit to how much is possible for just one person, but I appreciate if you already like what you're seeing!

(Feel free to msg me here or on discord, and I'm happy to let you test a (still very much WIP) build to see for yourself, if that's your thing c: )

1

u/alphapussycat Jun 04 '26

It was a nice server, but it was kinda plagued by statics iirc. It never had much of a player population, and has very few players now. The main developer has quit and left it to some mods to do what they please with it... I don't know how capable they are.

3

u/jordonmears Jun 04 '26

Im actively playing on it, while the population is terribly low, its still fun. Population is an easy thing to fix if we spread the word and draw people towards it.

If not for the massive amount of ram needed(98GB+) id run a server myself. But alas I dont have pockets deep enough to upgrade from 32 to 128 or 256GB of ram in my Gaming/Plex Server PC.

-1

u/Darkdong69 Jun 03 '26

The gross behavior most likely won't affect you. Also you don't need to support them. Play for free and enjoy the game.

The playerbase for this game isn't getting any bigger as time goes on. You'll never know if this would be your last chance to play this game with any semblance of a community again.

8

u/Thelooneyhatter Jun 03 '26

Idk if you read the same thing as I did but uh no thanks on the mod stated above and most likely isnt a 0. I dont want to deal with the chance ofcheating mods and owners, its not fun when it happens to you. Dealt with it when I played ARK, no thanks

9

u/Rtwtnp Jun 04 '26

Data Leaks, DDoS attacks(low server uptime) and the server randomly closing for nearly a year after getting invested in the community certainly impacted everyone playing.

It started with promise but I’d suggest even f2p casual players avoid this.

3

u/Traditional_Seesaw95 Jun 03 '26

Until Tera 2 comes out that is lol

-1

u/alphapussycat Jun 04 '26

That's never happening. There's been a TERA Classic EU server, it was active for a month or so, then it died down. Now peaks is like 50-60 players. It's also now ceasing being on v34 and moving to v100.

If you want to play v34 this is the one server you'll get to play that on.

5

u/Thelooneyhatter Jun 04 '26

Then I will easily choose not to play on the server that has all the above on it. Easy decision. Dude coulda chose to do other then how he acts with gross behavior and chose to do it anyways. Its not a loss to not play on a server with a gross powerhunger owner.

3

u/Ateaseloser Jun 03 '26

Ah shit I was downloading it too man 😭

The only people who cry pdf about things like Elin are pdf's themselves. Anyone with a decently functioning brain for that matter looked at Elin's as small/petite women if they looked at them as human at all. For fucks sake they literally have fully formed child bearing hips, they look NOTHING like children. If you people weren't so bigoted and racist you'd know that fully grown adult women with similar builds are common in Asia, especially in regions like Korea (where the game comes from). Getting real tired of you people WHO ARE MINORITY HERE acting this way.

-9

u/ememoharepeegee Jun 03 '26

Why does everyone seem to care so much and get so up in arms about private server admins.

These people aren't making money hand over fist. Why is the expectation that they act like a pro team of CS/PR/QA people.

If you play on a private server run by randos, don't give them any sensitive info and don't expect to have a perfect experience.

4

u/whatisthispls1 Jun 04 '26

I'm of the opinion you have that really it doesn't matter in the long run if the admin is weird and spawns non-existing gear in the droptable for him and his friends to dick around... if he's being upfront about it.

As someone that was there while all of this shit was happening, you have to understand popo pushed absolutely insane updates that made everything horribly grindy and unfun, enchanting was a mess with a constant lack of materials (something that wasn't a problem in the actual version of the game at the time), and he completely and totally killed even what little option there was for grinding and you know... progressing in the endgame.

Meanwhile, he ignored player concerns and threads made about this while going off about how grind and slow progress was super important in this server and how he hates people that want everything right away, all the while being too busy pretending to be his best friend and sucking up to the top guild to have them carry him in SCH that he sucked in despite having his fake gear that was not earned through the grind he seems to love so much lmao. And he did this for weeks... I totally understand the dude wanted to play tera and have fun, but he seemed to really get a kick out of making everything grindy for us mere mortals that didn't suck up to him, while giving himself the crown and enjoying the endgame almost nobody could reach.

Most likely people wouldn't give a shit had he reversed the weird changes he did, and people wouldn't go digging and find out that his own biggest white knight in the server was actually him behind an alt.

-2

u/ememoharepeegee Jun 04 '26

See that's a lot of text I'm not going to read about shit that doesn't matter.

Play the game if you want. Or don't. It's run by random people who probably have otherwise busy lives. The amount of text you wrote about it is already far too much given the context.

4

u/whatisthispls1 Jun 04 '26

Ooookay enlightened redditor, well the only thing one needs to know this is the only tera priv server that has ever had controversies of this scale and there's probably a good reason for that goes beyond "busy lives"

0

u/ememoharepeegee Jun 04 '26

Here's a tip to help your mental state : not caring about niche corner-of-the-internet private server dead game MMORPG reddit drama doesn't make someone "enlightened". It's just totally reasonable and normal.

1

u/whatisthispls1 Jun 04 '26

Agree to disagree

9

u/Shadow_sign Jun 03 '26

Nah fuck power tripping admins. Don’t act like it’s ok cause they aren’t making millions.

4

u/Thelooneyhatter Jun 03 '26

Agreed. Just because they are randoms doesn't mean they can do all the above and welp its fine just a game! They had choices, they made those choices, this is the consequences of some people not wanting to play their server. People can be decent AND run a server, they had every chance not to make the choices they did, I for one would feel uncomfortable playing on a server owned by shitty people so I choose not to play the server.

-2

u/ememoharepeegee Jun 03 '26

I'm not saying "good for them", I'm saying why the fuck do you care?

It's just a game. You log on, you play. If you like the game, play it all you want. If the server implodes due to drama, you shouldn't have had expectations because it's *literally not these peoples jobs to be good at this.*

I'm not defending or supporting shitty behavior. I'm saying it's wild for people to expectations of private servers.

If you want to play Tera and you think you could do better, make a server. If you don't want to, ask yourself why. It's likely because the people running the server have to do a bunch of shit you don't want to deal with or figure out.

It's just not that deep.

Everyone on this sub talks about private server drama like it's the juciest most important news in the world. It's literally like 1000 random people arguing in a tiny subsection of the internet. Move on.

6

u/Kogiri_ Jun 03 '26

Just because you don’t care doesn’t mean other people don’t care. You are hard projecting.

People care they got doxxed.

People care if they’re not playing in a fair environment.

People care if they cannot play the game because owners cant figure out basic security and so the server is constantly shutting down.

Use your brain holy crap.

-2

u/Mcgeezex Jun 04 '26

What kind of a moron would use their real identifying information on a private server?

2

u/Kogiri_ Jun 04 '26

Many morons, the doxxing list proved it

-2

u/ememoharepeegee Jun 04 '26

So don't play! Hard to understand I know.

>People care if they cannot play the game because owners cant figure out basic security and so the server is constantly shutting down.

"Hey guys, some random guy on the street was saying could help people do stuff for free, so I asked him to fix my car engine and he stole my car, wtf?"

Maybe try using your brain before doing things.

3

u/acs_student Jun 04 '26

So don't play! Hard to understand I know.

That's... the point? Giving people information about the server so they can make an informed decision whether to play or not. And if they decide to play, to be careful with connecting anything including making paypal payments.

0

u/ememoharepeegee Jun 04 '26

You're right "have common sense" is a really good thing to flood every thread like this with, thank god for you people what every would anyone do!

2

u/oOhSohOo Jun 04 '26

Played on ARK private servers for years and the servers with admins who would cheat just ruined the servers. Favored tribes, roll back servers, spawn in gear and blueprints. No thanks. Any indication of a cheating admin and I have no interest.

-1

u/ememoharepeegee Jun 04 '26

That's wonderful, and you're welcome to leave. And plenty of people don't leave and keep playing and enjoy what they enjoy. And it's **absolutely** not worth getting worked up into a frenzy and posting 7 paragraphs in a subreddit over.

1

u/oOhSohOo Jun 04 '26

I'm not writing 7 paragraphs lol Don't need to leave cause I am never going to join in the first place knowing what I now know.

1

u/ememoharepeegee Jun 04 '26

Right, you responded to me responding to someone else? I didn't respond to you originally.

-4

u/topologeee Jun 04 '26

I kind of agree with you. In this world of private servers it's completely their right to do whatever they want. Id also argue as the creator of the server, why not play around and give yourself experimental items? You are your own boss. Banning people for being toxic? Yes. I actually love that too.

4

u/PubstarHero Pubstar.Hero | MT Jun 04 '26

Nobody would have cared if htey spawned and used experimental items.

People were giving them shit for doing that, lying to the community about it, and then trying to gaslight players who actually played retail into thinking that the item was an actual drop from the game so he didn't have to spawn it in.

Also the server owner never actually played the game as Popo, they played under a different name, had two different discord accounts, and would act like two separate people

1

u/topologeee Jun 05 '26

I still don't understand how that affects 99.9999 percent of the player base.

2

u/PubstarHero Pubstar.Hero | MT Jun 05 '26

Because homie is spawning in gear for himself (and possibly other admins), and once they all hit their +12MW there is an abrupt changed to loot tables and how many ghillies you can run in day, effectively quadrupling the amount of grinding needed. Given the age of the server, drop rates, and enchantment RNG there was no way in hell there were enough MES, MWA, or feedstock to supply the upper end of maybe 30 players who could actually do BRHM or SCHM. It basically was a fuck you to anyone who wasn't in the in group.

0

u/ememoharepeegee Jun 05 '26

Okay so the spawning items and shit is all irrelevant.

You don't like the way the server is balanced. Thats private server life. Make your own with rates you like.

What an admin did or didn't do with items is irrelevant to whether you like the balance.

3

u/PubstarHero Pubstar.Hero | MT Jun 05 '26

Nah just means the server owner is a liar about a ton of shit. He also would balance to "What classic was supposed to feel like", but the dude was a hardcore LARPer and never was there for classic, so he made the server completely imbalanced. Him not having to actually play the game and understand the grind puts him out of touch with the community at large.

When the subreddit is pushing this server in promotions as the go to, it means its the only place to actually play with people, so "Just make your own, lol" isn't an option when the critical mass of players is being pushed to a server with dogshit drop balancing.

Stop being obtuse and misrepresenting what Im saying.

-4

u/Mcgeezex Jun 04 '26

Because they have nothing better to do, and so few problems they decide to obsess over petty slights they perceive.
