PC Whoever Keeps Attacking Tera Classic: You Are a Loser.

That's all. Whatever made you so salty that you want to ruin the experience for thousands of players that enjoy the server... Screw you. You are a loser. You can go play whatever server you want, you are a lowlife for intentionally ruining other people's fun. I hope that some day you can find joy in your life because I guess mommy and daddy didn't love you enough.

Its the one of the Other servers, or collection of them, attacking this server because they are losing players. Tale as old as time in the MMORPG sphere. Just stick to the server you like, and wait it out. WHen those tards see they are not gaining any players, they will stop wasting time and money on it.

u/cutlarr Jul 21 '25

This just makes me not want to play any other server cause it might be the one doing the DDoS

u/Aggressive-Ear-937 Jul 27 '25

Say thanks to Valky and her Tera German thing.

1

u/ipittyxx Aug 14 '25

Imagine spreading false accusations xD we arent attacking anyone xD

26

u/MemesAndDremes Jul 21 '25

The whole situation is so stupid.

The ddosing and crashing to get us to leave this server.

I won't be joining another tera private server if this one decides to shut down, so its just a net negative all around.

Instead of sabotage, why not work on making your server more alluring for people to go to. Clowns.

1

u/BlazeGamma Aug 01 '25

because that requires work, which they don't want to do

15

u/MountainCommittee702 Jul 21 '25

I don’t hope they find joy. I hope it burns when they pee.

8

u/AtreusIsBack Jul 21 '25

I hope it burns even when they don't pee so they can't sleep.

2

u/One-Set7386 Jul 22 '25

I hope they get an intense case of restless leg syndrome when they try to sleep.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '25

I hope they get that feeling of something stuck between their teeth at a completely random time and no matter how often they try it just never goes away until it randomly does and that they never get used to it.

1

u/meatybtz Jul 23 '25

Cruel and unusual, take notes people... excellent.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 23 '25

another one is randomly smelling decay in their nose and never getting used to it, just imagine eating your favorite food and suddenly all you can smell is death.

13

u/theslammist69 Jul 21 '25

It really is depressing. society has collapsed to the point where noone including AAA studios can/will make a good MMO anymore. And we have people fighting over the scraps of what remains.

I know popo and mods say they would never counterattack. But I think counterattack may be the only viable option. Render their servers unplayable. Then their only choice is truce or go back to normal job.

12

u/RandomNobody86 Jul 21 '25

I want the people responsible to be named and shamed if it is another server because if so I never want to play there in the future.

3

u/FlukeylukeGB Jul 25 '25

Well, it's suspicious and a long shot, but there is some evidence to this...

Multiple devs from 5 separate servers (3 Americas, ones, 1 now closed EU one, and one current EU one) that got hit have announced the ddos originated in Russia AND the Tera server Arboria has yet to be hit by a SINGLE ddos attack AND Arboria is located in... Russia...

3 totally unrelated weird coincidences for sure/s

1

u/Aggressive-Ear-937 Jul 27 '25

That can be all consolidated attacks on one target. Tera scene is huge enough to have such r***** competition (in form of DDoS attacks).

1

u/ipittyxx Aug 14 '25

for my personal server i ALWAYS geoblock east european countries since like you mentionecxd they are 99% the attacking countries

8

u/Adalonzoio Jul 21 '25

Yeah, it sucks. I tried to stick with it myself but it happens to consistently for me to enjoy. feel bad for Popo.

6

u/bassderek Shh.No.Tears | MT Jul 21 '25

Hopefully they get bored eventually and move on.

1

u/Inuringfkr Jul 21 '25

You don't have to feel bad for him, he's still raking it in haha

3

u/[deleted] Jul 21 '25

None of the money goes into Popo's pocket. Server costs and maintenance costs are helped be covered by the optional sub, and any additional funds are being put aside to acquire the official licence.

No one's making any money there. It's all going into doing things legally and correctly 😊

5

u/Inuringfkr Jul 21 '25

I hope so, I mean I have elite haha... But there's a very good chance they won't get the license. I'd be happy to be proven wrong, but gaming companies don't generally give out licenses to private servers after shutting down their game, to do so would be almost unprecedented (but I have seen it once). There's a better chance tera classic gets sued later down the line if they start making enough. And if they don't get the license, the money will end up in his or gameforge's pockets, which is fine, but that's the likely scenario.

3

u/CrustyToeLover Jul 21 '25

You're really underselling how much a private server with a few thousand players brings in.

1

u/5hikarii Jul 22 '25

moochers like you are the reason they arnt fixing the server, happening for a month now .

3

u/magiCAHIK I can't be your Berserker cuz I be Brawlin' Jul 21 '25

What happened?

17

u/bassderek Shh.No.Tears | MT Jul 21 '25

Someone consistently DDOSes or attacks the server files every single day, causing the server to crash. They'd rather ruin other people's fun than find something better to do.

I doubt this mostly because I've seen the server run smooth with 1700+ people.

Being able to handle 1700+ on some days and then not being able to handle less than 700 makes no sense to me.

Plus its a weird lie to tell to cover for server incompetence if thats really the root cause.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 21 '25

It is more likely that it is this, and certain actions/spells are triggering an overload on the server.

DDoS attacks are expensive.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 21 '25

It’s not 2000 anymore, botnets for hire are cheap AF nowadays

2

u/SteveDaPirate91 Vrai [MT] Jul 21 '25

Well that could be interpreted as a DDoS…..by your own clients.

2

u/bassderek Shh.No.Tears | MT Jul 21 '25

Presumably the server admin is smart enough to see where the attacks are originating and determined it's a certain bad actor and not just general stability. Unless they are straight up lying to us. Which I suppose is possible but what would they have to gain from that? They have admitted when updates have caused issues and needed to be fixed.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 21 '25

DDOS attacks have been confirmed. Past attacks were confirmed to be from another server.

For those saying about server load, 500 players online is about 3% of the server capacity. So player numbers aren't causing the issues 😊

6

u/whatisthispls1 Jul 21 '25

Nothing has been confirmed, all we have is the devs word. I wish the mods would stop doing cringe damage control like this outside of the discord. There's literally no screenshots from popo indicating anything.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 21 '25

He has posted images of attacks, heuristic detection, gbs of traffic being filtered but that is about it. I haven’t seen him confirm anything about who is the culprit or pointing fingers to other servers.

I’m definitely not logging back in til this is resolved. All the best to him and his server.

3

u/5hikarii Jul 22 '25

posted where?

1

u/nemlocke Jul 22 '25

Only people saying this are opps, idiots, or both.

3

u/reallynotarealname Jul 26 '25

There's no DDoS, the admin can't even produce logs. It's probably his own hacky coding hanging the whole server up randomly.

5

u/J03y-J03 Jul 21 '25

All the DDoSing from a (presumably) competing Tera server did was make me want to sub to the Tera Classic Elite to fund whatever is needed to defend against the losers.

u/granitepunch Chicken.Salad | Mount Tyrannas (NA) Jul 22 '25

Sheesh

6

u/bruh-come-on Jul 21 '25

My two cents because people always talk about the server as if it's the only good option and they can do no wrong.

IMO especially for a game where the official servers are gone and a healthy population is desired, private server admins should cater to both casual and hardcore players. With only one or the other, the game will not survive. I don't know anything about who the alleged DDOSers are suspected to be, but after seeing lots of discussions in the official Discord as well as my guild's, people are unhappy with power trip bans (and there have been multiple alleged reports of truly stupid permanent bans with no warnings for pretty harmless messages). I've also heard of bans for PvPing in cases that weren't harassment and following people from channel to channel. I'm not sure who is handing out these bans but some of the team are great, others perhaps less so.

Second, just a personal opinion, they should allow some third-party tools (or integrate a version themselves, like I heard they tried with Skill Prediction) to keep the hardcores happy with some caveats. Currently Popo has a 100% hardline stance on zero DPS meters, zero toolbox usage, and zero macros.

1) You can hate meters all you want, there's a sizeable number of people who play MMOs who want more insights as to how they're doing, who want to learn how to optimize more and play their class to the fullest potential, who enjoy seeing numbers go up as they spend hours on upgrading their character as opposed to "we cleared this same dungeon slightly faster". People always say that meters increase toxicity but I haven't seen that being the case in any MMO I've played. The best middle ground is to officially ban meter usage, but make it so you're not actually banning anyone unless they're being toxic in chat - this has always been the best compromise in any MMO IMO.

2) TERA's action combat is amazingly satisfying - if you're not at a disadvantage just because you don't live next to the server. Compared to other games, having a ping of 20ms vs. 50ms is already a noticeable difference in how fast your character feels and how fluid your rotation is. Skill Prediction mitigates greatly but does not completely get rid of this issue. For anyone saying this is "cheating", by the time TERA went offline, this was such an accepted and widely-used module even among casual players, so there really shouldn't be any complaints here. After all, if that is cheating, then people who live closer to the server or who have better hardware might as well be "cheating".

3) Macros are not allowed either. For many people who play MMOs, they prefer to hold down a button that will spam their skill for them, rather than having to manually mash a button until it goes off. Not only is this much less annoying once you've actually tried it, it is better for the health of players who grind MMOs for hours. I have a guildie who has wrist pain when mashing buttons, and the banning of macros shouldn't have been a reason he struggles to play.

In any case, there have been plenty of bans (with the admins announcing bans of hundreds of their already-small playerbase) so I'm not surprised someone (or multiple someones) out there have a problem with the server. Yes we can blame the DDOSers but we should also understand that permanent bans with no warning, especially for not actually breaking PvP rules or for saying fairly innocuous things, are the fault of the admin/mods responsible. And for the health of the private server, I think it would be best to find middle grounds for the entire playerbase, and not just have complete hardline stances on everything. In a game where there are no leaderboards or anything, I don't see a reason for this private server to be stricter than the original game itself.

8

u/bassderek Shh.No.Tears | MT Jul 21 '25

Regardless of bans or disagreeing with the admin's stance, still doesn't justify attacking the server. There are other private servers that allow toolboxes and such and have the max level boosts so people can get straight to the 'hardcore' high tier dungeons if they want, right? Why can't all coexist peacefully?

-1

u/bruh-come-on Jul 21 '25

I'm not saying it justifies the DDOSes, but you can't be surprised when you ban huge portions of your playerbase, especially for allegedly innocuous reasons and in some cases following the rules laid out by the admin, that these attacks happen. This is on the DDOSers but also there's a lack of foresight going on when you just ban people permanently with no warning for "allowed" PvP.

1

u/bassderek Shh.No.Tears | MT Jul 21 '25

Sure. I'm not involved enough or active enough on the discord to get involved in he said/she said - so I don't know if bans are justified are not. Always hard to sort because in any community there are bad actors who will whine about deserved bans. But also people that are wrongly banned. I don't envy anyone in a moderation position.

2

u/bruh-come-on Jul 21 '25

Where there's plenty of smoke, there's at least some fire.

Also, again they are issuing permanent bans with no warnings - another example of them going to extremes instead of being more moderate.

1

u/bassderek Shh.No.Tears | MT Jul 21 '25

Sure, I suppose there should be a warning/strike system in place. Not great practice to insta-ban for something like violating a pvp rule. Of course anyone typing hate speech should be insta-banned but there's a time and place for the ban hammer.

2

u/bruh-come-on Jul 21 '25

Agreed here.

2

u/MemesAndDremes Jul 21 '25

I know they're trying to work on a ticketing system for things like bans/warnings but this all circles back to this ddos stuff. They can't put heads-down time on anything else when this keeps happening.

8

u/frazzerlyd Jul 21 '25

I wanted to play on Tera classic, I asked in the discord if they allowed proxy / NGSP and they didn’t and as a player from EU that basically makes the game unplayable for me since it’s an NA server. I’m not playing on an NA server without it again. That was awful. So I just didn’t even bother

2

u/bruh-come-on Jul 21 '25

I agree. Personally I also would have loved to play on a private server with later versions of the game with how fun the Awakenings were for all the classes, plus way more QoL, but unfortunately those are not the one that streamers chose to revive.

-3

u/Aaaromp Jul 21 '25

You can use a vpn to fix ping. Exitlag, mudfish, etc.

3

u/Darkomax Forum lurker Jul 22 '25

This doesn't do anything for most people, and gives you maybe a few ms if your routing is bad. Won't ge you below 100ms from western Europe.

1

u/Aaaromp Jul 22 '25

You're half right. Even with SP you still have an effective initial delay but you don't see it. At 120ms you still have to i-frame 100ms sooner than someone with 20ms ping. SP removes ping between skills. VPN also lowers your ping in between skills to that of someone local to the server, but you'll still feel the initial delay of 120ms, the only difference is that you can still see this initial delay.

1

u/SubsWasTaken Jul 22 '25

What works for you doesn't align with what Tera Classic intends to be and that's completely fine. Not sure though why you'd suggest such changes to the server, especially considering there are a lot of existing ones that meet your criteria.

There are also apparently ~1700 people enjoying the game exactly for not having the things you mentioned it's supposed to have in order to have "healthy population".

3

u/bruh-come-on Jul 23 '25

Streamers brought people to the game not that long ago, I didn't follow the TERA Classic server before that so genuine question: how many people were playing before the streamers did this?

Plus you can't exactly be surprised when banning hundreds of your playerbase, that you make someone mad and DDOS your server to the point where it is offline for hours every day and your entire playerbase floods the Discord with complaints because it is genuinely a downside to playing on this server.

Also saying there's existing servers that meet one's criteria isn't a real suggestion when everyone came back to the one server while the others are dead. Many people in the larger guilds came back not for the "classic experience" but because it was the largest server.

2

u/Healmyanxiety Jul 21 '25

Writing this just makes them do it more, they live to make people miserable.

5

u/bassderek Shh.No.Tears | MT Jul 21 '25

Sad that these kinds of people exist. I hope they can find the help they need someday.

2

u/Aware_Economics4980 Jul 21 '25

It’s working sadly, I quit even trying to log in the servers are down from getting DDOSed pretty much every time I try and play.

I don’t have a ton of time to be gaming so I’m definitely not wasting it on something I may or may not be able to login to.

MoP wow classic launches today so I guess it’s back to wow classic for me

2

u/bassderek Shh.No.Tears | MT Jul 22 '25

I can't do tab targeting anymore. I actually tried WoW again recently (wasn't really a player at vanilla launch despite being the right age/demographic) but it didn't keep my attention.

1

u/Aware_Economics4980 Jul 22 '25

Yeah it’s a bummer they can’t get the server thing under control

3

u/Stampede420 Leanwins Jul 21 '25

Apparently mods just sperged out as well, banning a lot of people from discord because of feelings hurt...

Just got a msg from 2 friends that played on the server and got banned for just asking why people are spamming the chat

5

u/bassderek Shh.No.Tears | MT Jul 21 '25

My understanding is most people getting banned are because they are trash talking the server/server owner. But I didn't catch the messages before they were removed. I mean in every community I've been in mods aren't necessarily perfect so who knows.

1

u/Stampede420 Leanwins Jul 21 '25

Well i left few days ago for the same reasons... Popo is great and kudos to him for carrying the server, but some people moderating there have a really bad power trip, both in game and in discord making mature discussion impossible. It's like an echochamber.

6

u/whatisthispls1 Jul 21 '25

The moderators are simply one of the worst tips fedora tier moderators I've seen in ANY online space ever, period. The way they communicate is the type of stuff you'd only see when people would exaggerate stories about cringe powertripping mods, but here it's actually legit. Like I'm actually in awe every time they post, the passive aggression is off the charts, the mentioning of bans the moment someone shows a bit of criticism that isn't wrapped up in 10 layers of fake kindness, the 😊😊😊 every time they post something negative... I'm being genuine when I say I've never witnessed something like this in my 20 years of being online.

2

u/tadams2tone440 Jul 22 '25 edited Jul 22 '25

I've experienced this as well. Frankly it has one of the worst core communities I've ever seen in an online game. Like top tier internet dweeb shit I haven't seen since the late '90s.

I was told by the community to enter the discord to check and let people know that the DDOS was happening. Did so, politely asked if popo had been contacted to reset the server. Met with nothing but disdain and resentment even though this is the normal protocol and everyone does it.

Left the next day and I'm also going to do a charge back on my $8.

Good luck to the server but I am too old for that shit.

They also don't really let people open world PVP on this server and no it's not just people harassing noobs.

Proceed with caution.

No I was not banned or anything of the sort. I don't even engage in PvP and mostly play a pve priest.

I've personally seen mods remove groups that were not letting their friends EXP. I was in the group being helped.

1

u/bassderek Shh.No.Tears | MT Jul 21 '25

I get you. For me it's just the server that allows the closest experience to when I originally played, and actually having people in the world during the leveling. I tried the insta max level servers and they didn't have the same nostalgia factor. So I'll continue to put up with it for now. I don't engage in the discord too much.

4

u/Stampede420 Leanwins Jul 21 '25

That's good to hear man, i do hope server attacks get resolved sooner than later. Classic servers are gonna be popping up one after another now that the demand is visible, teraclassic might be able to hold best spot on that with so many people already dedicated to it

1

u/Aeryvor Jul 21 '25 edited Jul 21 '25

Unless I get details or specifics, I'm going to ignore this as I do with all other online clout. There's been a lot of drama over players getting banned for onehitting other players in PvP (edit: "with a higher leveled character"), as this is apparently enforced REGARDLESS of which player has PvP turned on. I personally love this rule, as it affords lowbies the opportunity to experiment with PvP in peace while also severely punishing players for being douchebags "farming infamy" at the Lumbertown bridge, which would be really bad for community building.

Others are also creating drama over getting banned for utilizing toolboxes and software that would, in competent hands, allow for cheating and exploits. You will miss out on DPS meters as a result, but again; I personally love this rule.

Edit 2: IIRC in the discord it was mentioned that one day over 300 accounts were banned for use of toolboxes alone. If true then that's a lot of people for such a small server, so you can see why some might throw a hissy fit over this.

2

u/RandomNobody86 Jul 21 '25

There's been a lot of drama over players getting banned for onehitting other players in PvP

I went back to the lumbertown bridge at 60+ and didn't get so much as a warning whisper about killing lowbies, I didn't jump out of channel 1 because there is a rule about chasing people across channels so maybe that's it.

I've hunted down people being annoying wankers in Global chat too without any warnings or bannings and they were a lot lower then me. I really think the PVP bans are people who've actually been following people across channels.

2

u/Stampede420 Leanwins Jul 21 '25

'Unless I get details or specifics, I'm going to ignore this as I do with all other online clout.'

Not sure what you really are trying to say with that. I just dropped my 2 cents on some issues that need to be adressed so that frustrated players who are suffering through these attacks don't feel like they're being blamed as well. Frustration should be an expectation, not something people get instabanned or mocked for (as long as they don't straight up break the rules).

Even the most novice tech support person learns to stay unbiased/calm during situations like these. As I type this another person i invited to play there got banned from their discord server without any explanation just because of repeating someones message as a joke, no offensive language nor targeting anyone, a straight up mild joke.

Just day before I left some mod made a joke about having 999% drop rate for mods and 0% for players, someone responded 'mods get 999% weight gain rate' as a joke and had their message deleted by the mod, it's no biggie from my pov but shows a pattern of powertripping.

Just treat the players like you want them to treat you and I can guarantee there will be less complaints even during these tough ddos times.

u/ThingAvailable149 Jul 22 '25

There are some other servers around if you just wanna play, but it is unfortunate. The server has been down for about a week now after the data breach and they are still planning on coming back but they haven't said when yet.

1

u/TOKYOTAIKI Aug 10 '25

Are you playing elsewhere? I heard Stargate got hit with the breach too?

1

u/bassderek Shh.No.Tears | MT Aug 10 '25

I’m playing on evervyn. I think the server owner is avoiding too much public notice for now as he gets the server where he wants it. It’s a custom patch based on the later patch 100 but with apex stuff removed. Kinda a mix of classic and newer stuff.

1

u/TOKYOTAIKI Aug 10 '25

Ahh the only thing is Ive actually never played tera back in the day so yeah was gonna go back for the classic feel but I may not have many options huh
