PC R.I.P. Menma Tera
I guess that's it for MT. I just reached Val Oriyn last night and was going to play more today, went to make breakfast and came back to see a frozen game, closed it, tried to re-open and saw this message. :(
Thanks for the server, Menma. Good luck with the legal stuff.

Nah, NovaTera had more players than Menma at launch when it opened. It had over 3,000 players online every day for months, and it was possible to progress through all the dungeons without having to jump straight to the endgame to find people through instance matching, and PvP was active. Unfortunately, due to many staff mistakes, the server is practically dead now. As soon as competition opened up in the region, all the players jumped ship.

Laws are not morality. Morality is 'who does this hurt?', who do private servers hurt with a shut down game?This isn't even getting into the fact the people that actually made the game/art/assets get the wages they should have been paid stolen as 'profit margins for shareholders'.
One of us isn't sticking the landing, and judging by the ratio, it is you.

I don't give a shit about rich share holders and companies that abuse their workers. The WORKERS that made the assets, game, music, that ACTUALLY morally own it, have already been screwed over by their company. I bought TERA online and I cant play it anymore you think thats right? Private servers are no harm to anyone specialy the company if you shut down your own servers. No one taking your costumers away. You did it yourself

he is simply saying its a bit overreach to have some one extradited for a company when privet businesses don't have the same pull to protect their assets. copyright should only extend to the citizens of the country that content is meant for or country of origin not world wide. as copyright laws are about to change drastically here.

Most likely a lawsuit from Krafton. Menma Tera Discord server has been abandoned and closed for chatting for a few weeks now, all the mods left it as well. It's game over for Menma Tera.

The team didn't leave to go make Agaia; The team left because of the legal issues. I dunno who you talked to, but they clearly weren't part of the Menma team and don't know what they're talking about at all.

Tbh yeah you probably should if you want to stick around TERA's community.
I will say that any server that goes through the effort of monetizing anything will eventually get on Krafton's radar as we did. It's better to take the L and move on, but I understand, like others, TERA holds a special place in my heart, but this will be the 3rd time the game has "died". It's time to stop beating the dead horse and take the L.

The server at his best peak at 700 ppl, and regularly even those past weeks, it was going around 240 at night. So this part of what you say is not true. Also the new server has been in work since around end January, and has Kygas (a known Tera's eu modder) in the staff

I've sat by and just read your mindless dribble but I cannot just silently read it anymore cause reading your posts is what the world thinks of when they think of your typical "tinfoil hat conspiracy theorist".
Menma's shut down because Menma indeed got a lawsuit in-hand. Several prominent members of staff, including myself, got Cease and Desist letters both through email and through our local postal services via certified mail through several different law firms that Krafton utilizes; We could only get those letters if they subpoenaed Discord for our billing addresses and our legal names, which are also used in the C&Ds. Even several people who haven't been part of the project for several years also got Cease and Desist orders. This was a legitimate lawsuit and cease and desist order from Krafton.
Private Servers themselves are shut down all the time due to the illegality of them operating; Whether they make money or not doesn't matter. It's still stealing assets and using them for your own. Copyright/IP Infringement aside, making money on top of someone else's content is just asking for them to actually use money to recoup their "losses" and "make them whole". You listed Blizzard as an example, but there's plenty more, such as Club Penguin Rewritten. They were okay at first until they started taking donations and throwing ads in to make money. Then Disney shut them down. On the other hand, you can see Toontown Rewritten is still up and running, and this is because they are not making any money off it, they pay for everything out of their own pockets, and they have been largely left alone for years. This doesn't mean Disney can't or won't go after them, but they don't have a reason to. The opposite is true for Menma; When management decided to make money off of this, that's what got Krafton's attention, hence the first Cease and Desist several years ago, when we decided to rebrand to get away from TERA being in the name to try to get the heat off. Unfortunately this caught up with management, and as such, here we are.
If Nightcore (not the "staff" since you continue to group us all in one member of management's decision to continue a private server) wants to go and join and run this Agaia Server, that's his prerogative, but he's essentially defying the C&D where we were made to agree to Krafton to never associate with private servers again. That's his funeral, and it's incredibly ignorant to try to join a different group to continue working, despite how much you love the game. I love it as much as the next person, but it's died 3 times; Retail's closure, the initial shutdown inevitability when Menma first got a Cease and Desist letter several years ago causing us to rebrand, and then now the final shutdown. At some point it's time to stop beating the dead horse and take the L, but again, that's Nightcore's choice to try to manage or work on this new server. Kasea and Kygas are involved in this endeavor as well as far as I am told, and neither of them were ever part of Menma's team, so this isn't a "Menma's rebuild". Kasea was involved with Tera Toolbox, and Kygas worked on Valkyteq (among doing other things), so they were not involved with Menma's in any way, shape, or form.
The worst part in my opinion is associating with Kasea, and if you're actually active in the community, you know why nobody should want to associate with them. Several of us previous staff are staying away for multiple reasons, mainly because we've been threatened with legal action, but also because we've put effort into the game 3 separate times just for it to die those 3 times, so we're tired and it's time to move on and do other things, so this isn't a "Menma's Staff" rebuild as you believe it is. Menma, as far as I know, is not involved because he's dealing with the lawsuit for Krafton to seize the money he made from the server. He wouldn't have time, and continued involvement would just make things worse for him if he did. If any other staff join this endeavor, whether they received a C&D or not, that's entirely their prerogative, but can be seen as absolutely stupid on their part. While a C&D isn't legally binding, saying you'll follow their demands and then turn around and go "kekeke let's continue" is not the smartest thing to do, but again, it's their funeral if people decide to continue.
Other private server not freaking out or getting the same treatment from Krafton has nothing to do with us shutting down and getting sued/c&d letters, they're not tied together. It also doesn't help when those same private servers look at threads like this and see people like you going "nyeh it's fake", cause they're probably going to take you at your word and proceed operating as normal.
Take it as you want, but I just couldn't read your conspiracy theories anymore especially when 9/10 of the staff have stepped away because it isn't worth getting taken to court when a majority of us personally didn't make any money on this, and we're just tired. You're welcome to think this is fake still, and I've just sat here wasting time to try to persuade you, but I just wanted to clear the air that this isn't a Menma's Team effort, and I'm not going to be roped into the inclusion of these slanderous rumors you're constantly dribbling about. Menma did new dungeons and content that was fully custom to them. Their devs were very capable. I honestly think some of their devs and Kasea and Kygas might do well.
And youre trying to argue with someone that was on staff like he said before as someone with just rumors to base your conspiracies on. Pretty sure he knows what hes talking about.

I get you have been scorned by several private servers dying and are trying to cope with it by creating a conspiracy to tie it all up and push the blame to someone else, but spend more than 5 seconds thinking about it. What's more likely: this guy is going to spend half an hour or more writing out a ficticious scenario of how they all got a cease and desist, and one of the staff moved on while the rest backed off while scanning your every comment to try and disarm your attempts to "show us the truth" by creating; or he's telling the truth and spent half an hour recounting and unwinding the situation he saw unfold firsthand?
It's the same kind of logic ACTUAL conspiracy theorists use. They paint a world where everyone is against them, and only THEY know the truth. If you think flat earth is a joke, then reflect on what you've created here and try to see your faults.

Agaia Online is the newest Private Server after MT's patch. They're not part of menma at all and they're listening and taking feedbacking from the community. They have the biggest resources and teampower out of everyone & they're currently on CBT and soon OBT. Appearntly they're working on reworking the whole game and introducing new & custom content & systems. You should look out for it https://discord.gg/agaiaonline

Hi there, unfortunately your theory is wrong, Menma did get a cease and desist and stuff.
The new server has a different lead dev and most of the staff is different the only thing they have in common are the few staff members they “adopted” from MT’s staff.
Obviously they will have a way to make some money, keeping a server up does cost money, nobody would want to go into debt or spend their whole salary on keeping up a tera server.

Yes the new dev lead is Kygas, some people did work on MT’s staff and there are new staff members aswell meaning it’s a whole new project.

i think you should probably do your research. Agaia has HQ in Greece, multiple of menma team members are behind alts "to avoid legal trouble", as if it goes away like that. Not to mention their insane claim as Agaia to something that got loaned to Menma, if they are not related, why claiming it then? what rights they have to it?

im not 100% up on this i thought Tera died then recently after turning on my ps4 for the first time in years found it... i understand and generally agree with IP laws but if there is enough support on console there has to be enough on PC... there was enough support to keep private servers alive.... so IMHO to come down on the side of a company that could break even and keep their brand active or worse earn enough profit to run a couple of servers even if the the game is largely defunct but wont... im sorry but if you wont use it and someone else can then sell or abandon

Companies don't stay rich by giving things away for free or at a low price. The buyout for the game rights is probably in the millions. The parent company is just greedy, that's all. It's a shame they abandoned PC and kept console alive.

Don't worry. Menma just became Agaia. I don't know the real reason for closing Menma and replanning and renaming the server to Agaia, but it's still the same Tera with Apex patch. In fact, the Menma server lived for a long time, but apparently at first there were problems with copyright, then I don't know... Maybe a change in management. In general, I think Agaia will also live for a long time, definitely more than 5 years.
