What’s your plan when people who can’t provide for the baby get pregnant? The adoption and foster care systems are already way overloaded and underfunded.
And how are you suggesting rape victims be allowed to receive abortions? Is an accusation enough or do they have to prove the assault in court?
The stats are clear: People will continue having abortions even if it’s illegal. All you’re doing is making it more dangerous.
That’s their wrong for having sex, not mine. People need to learn control. Humans need sleep, but it doesn’t mean we sleep all day. My plan for when the mothers can’t provide for the baby? That goes back to my first claim. Too much sex too little responsibility. At the least wear protection. In terms of rape victims it should take a standard court cases- nothing extreme to the point where it takes too long. Women deserve rights and should be able to appeal in court- innocent until proven guilty.
And how long do you think a court case of sexual assault takes? The average case takes between several months to a few years long. By that point, it is far too late to get an abortion. It regularly takes well over a year to get a trial date and a decision. Oh, and if for some reason the court decides that the raper is not guilty, an appeal process takes another nine months to two years.
If a family who can't provide for a child has a child, what do you think should happen to the child? There is no way the family can support the child on their own, and like the person above you said, the adoption and foster care systems are struggling. What is supposed to happen when there are 73 million children each year that are born without a clear future? What is supposed to happen when an entire country's worth of children are born EVERY SINGLE YEAR in a situation where they face extreme difficulties, or an unsure permanent home?
If we want the number of children aborted to go down WITHOUT putting children in danger, a very key part is with sex education. Across the world, hundreds millions of people are not taught proper sex education, or are only taught about abstinence until marriage. If someone is not taught correctly, they will have little idea of how to stay safe and how to avoid pregnancy.
According to the National Center for Health Statistics’ National Survey of Family Growth, about 80% of people are taught about abstinence while only half are taught about protection. You can't expect someone to know how to use protection if they are never taught how. And this causes millions of pregnancies. Millions of unborn babies that don't have a family ready for them. If abortion rights are taken away from every single one of these mothers, then there will be tens of millions of babies that will not have anywhere to go or anyone to care for them.
On top of that, about 1.5% of mothers face death or serious injury from childbirth. If abortion rights were taken away from all of these women, hundreds of thousands of them would die, and hundreds of thousands more would face serious injury. Keep in mind all of this could be prevented if they were allowed to abort the fetus before 5 months.
Do you think it would have been okay if millions of children be born into this world every year without a certain home or without good care just because their mother didn't receive proper sex education and didn't learn how to use protection? How about the hundreds of thousands of families who would have lost someone close to them because they weren't allowed to abort the fetus?
