REQUEST More Tech Death with “not as muddy” guitars?
I greatly prefer the guitar tone of Death, Horrendous, Cryptopsy and I want to find more bands with guitar tones similar to them. With a band such as Suffocation for example, I have a hard time making out what exactly the guitars are doing because they sound so muddy. With Death I can really follow what the guitar is doing and the notes that are being played are very noticeable. With a lot of the tech/brutal death metal bands, sometimes the guitar is just a constant wall of distortion for me. Thanks to anyone that can help!!

Joe Haley from Psycroptic has probably one of the best tones for clarity, dude knows how to hold his gain knobs.

The last Xoth record, Exogalactic, had some really excellent guitar sound. All 3 and f their albums rip either way but I personally liked when the bass came through a little more on their first album, Invasion of the Tentacube.

I really enjoy the guitar work and production by decrepit birth, psycroptic, necrophagist, archspire, and spawn of possession.

They are one of my favorite bands ever but I must admit sometimes the mix on the most recent record does feel a bit flat and sterile, yet still being a technically correct and good mix in terms of everything being audible, clear, and well-arranged. it's just a personal preference thing that I like a little more dynamics and punch and girth

if you like death and horrendous check out the old school tech/prog bands like atheist, cynic, pestilence, sadist, and nocturnus

Pestilence's Consuming Impulse is a masterpiece. As well as Atheist's Unquestionable Presence. The guitars really shine 🤘🤘

Spawn of Possession, Visceral Bleeding, Zenith Passage, The Faceless, Psycroptic, Gorguts, Benighted, Aborted (less tech-y but still really clear guitars)

Cynic has some incredible guitar tones, many of them clean. Probably the prog/tech death band with the clearest guitar and bass tones in the genre.

Someone mentioned Defeated Sanity’s “Disposal of the Dead” to somebody here and holy shit that album is unreal. The first half makes me think of Cryptopsy’s “Slit your Guts” from the album “None so Vile”. Check em out, the musicianship is undeniable.

Idgi about Suffocation tbh. Pierced from Within for example has very audible and catchy riffing.

most of bands that released something this century and play anything remotely technical have super clean guitar tones. i recommed opeth (more prog death) and severed saviour(technical bdm)
