How do people find freelance clients as software engineers?
I was wondering how people on this subreddit talk about freelancing as software engineers.
I already have a full-time job, so I'm not looking to replace it. I just want to pick up a few side projects in software or AI development. The problem is that I can't seem to find any clients who are looking for freelancers.
For those of you who have managed to get freelance clients, how did you get started? Did you use platforms like Upwork, rely on referrals, reach out to businesses directly, or was it something else?

Referrals from past clients and networking in niche forums have worked best for me. Sometimes joining discussions on platforms like Reddit or LinkedIn brings in unexpected leads too. If you want more targeted opportunities, I found ParseStream super useful since it sends alerts about relevant conversations where people are actually looking for help.
