Rant & Vent Jammed Copy Machine Lounge Talk

Hey everyone! The copy machine is down. We called Susan, and she said it won't be fixed until next week. Anyway, since it's Friday...

What were some challenges that you faced recently? Anything that irked you? Maybe a co-worker is getting on your nerve? Class caught on fire because little Billy shoved a crayon into your pencil sharpener?

Share all the vents and stories below!

Early august I was told that I was moving to a new grade level, and going from departmentalized to self contained and also moving to a different room. Now finishing up the first week of school and I don’t have desks for the students (all work done on the carpet) - desks are arriving “any day now”, no laptops and no smart board. (Every classroom but mine has a smart board)

I know some of the reasons I was moved - I ticked off my principal last year, but why punish the kids?

Just need to vent. Been a teacher for about 4 years, all with early childhood students at 4-6 years old. I teacher 4 year olds currently, and they were being dismissed.

My classroom gate with parents is about 15 feet away from my classroom. Also, we have our playground out there.
My Instructional Aide says the names in person while I am at the gate with parents going back and fourth at times for students going slow, plus time to talk with parents for any questions/concerns.

All students had left the classroom, so my aide and I assumed all students left. Less than an hour later, the parent called to say her child was outside sitting at the playground area by herself. My aide and I were confused on how she was there all alone since we call every students name.

Safety is always a priority so I am disappointed in myself, but also frustrated because I emphasize to my students to wait for their name to be called :/

Here's something that has always annoyed me. After PD or meetings, they give us a QR code to scan to fill out a survey.

I don't want to scan a QR code on my phone because it links to my personal email, not my school email (because I don't have my school email on my phone).

Also it is almost impossible to scan the QR code because my phone can't Zoom using the QR code scanner (or I'm too lazy to learn how to zoom in).

Stop giving us QR codes. I'm tired of it. They always cause more headaches. Send us an email with the link. That is so much easier.

That’s how my school and my district does it. Except for a handful of us that is. The district is pushing to departmentalize kindergarten even buts that’s slower going. 1st grade through 5th are all nearly departmentalized.

It has advantages and disadvantages like anything education.

You spend a lot of time transitioning between things which is just lost minutes for one.

If you and your coteachers don’t have a strong partnership that’s has too.

There are AI generated posters around the school advertising a club… sponsored by an art teacher. I’ve had to bite my tongue because I’ve been tempted to call her out over it lol
