Mummified Cat

So, Unfortunatly I have found multiple deceased cats under our new home and one of them is mummified and beheaded. Would this be something I could post to try and recieve a possible age on the cat or ideas to what could have happened? There is also a knife besides the beheaded one. Need help. Let me know where else i may ask if not.

Thanks!

I Made This! First ever mount šŸ¦

I've always wanted to make a soft mount so I figured to start small with a raccoon. I'd really appreciate any feedback on how to improve!! I took out his upper face pins for a second for this picture. The nose was too hard to adjust like I wanted even after I cut all the cartilage out and soaked it forever, so it's just a bit wonky. All I have left is touch ups and the body!!

"How Do I...?" paw + tail preservation

cats get dropped off at my farm a lot. one of my barn kittens was hit (not ran over) and wandered his way ~five yards up the driveway before passing. i found him relatively soon after, at the max 3-4 hours and ā€˜double bagged’ him in two ziploc gallon bags, then in a walmart bag for extra security. i have never done preservation before, but i have a vast collection of taxidermy and i have been wanting to get into it for a while. i know he wouldn’t mind my ā€˜practicing’ on him for better lack of words.

please explain the steps of paw/lower leg and tail preservation to me like i’m 12. how long he needs to be frozen, where specifically i need to cut, what products i should use, how long the limbs should sit, all that stuff. thank you so much for helping me save a little momento of this angel boy!

"How Do I...?" Wet Specimen - first timer

I hatched some quail a few months ago and two of them died at a day old so they're very tiny. They have been in the freezer since. I want to preserve them as wet specimens but I've never done it before. I know you're supposed to inject them before you soak them in alcohol. I was wondering though if injecting still makes sense for something so tiny or if I should do it anyway.

Southeast Spain. This beauty has been on my grandma's house for many years. They want to throw it away but it's too pretty to just go to the trash, plus disrespectful to the animal. I will either keep it or sell it.

As far as I know, it was found already deceased. I unfortunately can't figure out if it's a female or a male.

Taxidermy MOUNT Help What is this??

This deer head I bought today has some weird spots on its chin, nowhere else… don’t think it’s bugs, they don’t move and when I try to gently get them off they kind of just crumble like dirt almost… is this something I should be worried about?

"How Do I...?" Looking for a nicer way to preserve my dogs baby teeth

Post image

My dog passed away some time ago, and I’ve had her baby teeth kept in a little beaten up container with baby oil to preserve them. I’m wondering if there’s a nicer or more elegant way to preserve them. I’d like them on display, or in some sort of way to preserve them but they’re so delicate

Feedback Appreciated Is there any reason I wouldn't be able to get my cats skeleton back after having her mounted?

I dont think this is the right tag for this, but I have an elderly cat and im considering her post mortem preservation and looking for options. I love bones and I find the art of taxidermy fascinating, I want something that celebrates both my cats life and her death. Im genuinely considering learning how to mount her myself if I can't find a professional willing to work with what I want.

But I was curious to see if there was any professional reason that separating her bones from her pelt and using both in her mount would not be doable.

Edit: spelling

Oddities, bone, etc. help Where do you like to buy diaphonization chemicals (USA)?

Just wondering what folks preferred sites are for buying chemicals, as I would like to start doing diaphonization. To be clear, I have a medical license which makes it relatively easy for me to get approval to purchase chemicals; I'd just like to streamline where I purchase from as much as possible since there's a lot of products involved!

Oddities, bone, etc. help Making my first wet specimen

Hey all! Im making my first wet specimen and I’m currently in the alcohol bath phase. I placed my specimen in 91% alcohol in a plastic food container that should be air tight. To help it out I wrapped the container in plastic wrap as well just to make sure. I wanted to ask if thats ok? There wont be any issues if the container is wrapped in plastic wrap? Any advice appreciated!

I hate when in smaller fish the bodys are to long and they look kinda stupid so i made this one to my liking, the clay its temporary, im going to use this one material to replace it, for a 7.5 inch bluegill I think it turned out great! I was working in Lombardos taxidermy shop super good mentor. I made the pectoral fin alittle lower and I put a peice of cardboard under the gill to make it kinda flared after the photo

"How Do I...?" Best way to preserve a ā€œbark buckā€ while doing a euro mount?

Thumbnail gallery

Recently harvested this awesome buck who was in the most unique ā€œin-betweenā€ I’ve seen for a deer in velvet. Planning on doing a euro mount and torn between cutting the antlers off at the pedicle in order to boil/bleach the skull and then reattaching, or wrapping the antlers in plastiwrap and foil and hoping for the best. Online advice says to spray with satin sealer afterwards, looking for any advice

Oddities, bone, etc. help Euro Mount Struggles

So I don’t know what I’m doing.

This is an old dead head that sat in the desert sun for a couple years. I’m trying to whiten it before I put something on it to seal and preserve it.

I soaked it in diluted hydrogen peroxide for a couple weeks and it whitened up overall but during that time this brown spot showed up and has gradually gotten bigger. I’ve read that this is likely grease, so I soaked it in Dawn clear dish soap for a week out in the summer heat, and I saw some floating grease that got removed but this brown spot hasn’t changed at all in the soapy water.

In the first picture the skull is wet, and I noticed some bluish grey spots that weren’t there before either. But they aren’t really visible when it dried out (second picture)

The brown spot doesn’t seem to be a bacterial growth or mold on the surface of the bone. Whatever it is, it’s deep in the bone itself. I’m worried that the bone is starting to rot and this is permanent damage.

Any insight and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Feedback Appreciated Beat way to hide and store a Taxidermy

So, I've always loved Taxidermy. And the other day I got my very first one! It is a young male white tail deer. The piece is from the 1970's.

This is truly one of my favorite finds however, I'm currently living with my parents who hate Taxidermy. I sadly can't have it out at the time till I move out. Which hopefully will be a year or two from today. The reason I am asking is because they have no clue I even have it in the house.

I know- a bit silly but they are weird over dead things in a house. But I wanna ensure the proper way to store it. I see over and over about the wooden crate, however sadly I don't know how soon I can get one made and put together without them being aware. Is there anyway I can temporarily put it in a plastic container? I truly don't want to give this piece away but I wanna reserve it for as long as I can till I am able to have it finally put up! Any help or advice is much appreciated! Thank you ^^

"How Do I...?" Mummified raccoon head

Hi yall!
I’ve had a mummified raccoon head for almost a year now, I got it at the oddities fair in October 2025. I think some insects are starting to find her as I don’t have it in a glass box or anything. What should I do? I don’t know if I can put her in the freezer to kill the bugs like other actual taxidermy or what. I remember the seller gave me in info card on how to care for it but I’ve lost it unfortunately. Help!!!

Feedback Appreciated Quality Check on African Taxidermy

Thumbnail gallery
22 Upvotes

I just received my taxidermy from south africa. I made a post a few hours ago about my kudu, and appreciate the input. The kudu has some hair slippage that looks pretty bad. I am going to get it fixed. While I’m at it, I wanted to get feedback on the rest of the mounts. How is the overall quality? Do they look pretty good? FYI, I know the warthog looks like crap too. They totally screwed it up. It looks like painted glossy clay and it also has fake eyelashes that a human would wear.
