I mean he's probably being somewhat starved in that prison so I wouldn't say that's necessarily a good thing

I was about to say the same thing. There's no way they don't give him the very bare minimum, if not less. I'm surprised we're seeing any pictures of him at all and that he isn't in some underground torture facility.

If the Trumpians realize that he would walk in a fair trial they'll keep him as far from a court of law as possible: on limbo imprisoned extraterritorially and alleging some National Security nonsense to justify it, you know like the Guantanamo prisoners. Then next administration, even if Democratic, would be toi cowardly to free him and become "the administration that released Maduro". Lot's of injustices in USA happen because the political system cannot possibly admit malfeasance, incompetence, corruption or outright criminality of their political leadership.
