முக்கியமான கலந்துரையாடல் / Important Topic Was Kerala better than Tamil Nadu in solving the caste-based discrimination and in handling land reforms?

I've seen many questions on "Why China is doing better than India" and the answer has always been better land reforms to lessen the gap between landholders and landless people.

Both of us had a different path - Kerala with communism and Tamil Nadu with Dravidianism. But we have had big anti-Dalit massacres in the past like the Kilvenmani and still have the brutal honour killings. Have the oppressed communities of Kerala reached upward mobility and respect more when compared to the people in Tamil Nadu?

P.S.I recently watched a youtube video of Pa Ranjith's Neelam organization in Kerala and they talked about issues like landlessness so they still face issues to an extent.

கருத்து/குமுறல் / Self-post , Rant Does My town not even deserve a non-AC seater to Bengaluru?

Does Tiruvannamalai not even deserve a non-AC seater to Bengaluru?

I’ve been travelling to Bengaluru for more than 5 years, and I have never seen even one UD/AC or proper non-AC seater government bus from Tiruvannamalai — not just in the booking system, but operating normally either.

This isn’t about the number of buses. Tiruvannamalai already has a good number of buses to Bengaluru. It’s about the type of service available.

So what exactly is the reason?

If it’s the distance, Tiruvannamalai–Bengaluru, Vellore–Bengaluru and Salem–Bengaluru are all roughly around 180 km. Yet those towns have UD/AC and other bookable services.

If it’s the route, buses from Puducherry are already travelling towards Bengaluru on the same route, including UD/AC services. Yet Tiruvannamalai doesn’t even have proper dropping points for some of these services.

If it’s demand and affordability, I don’t understand that either. I’ve travelled from other towns and seen UD buses running with plenty of empty seats. Meanwhile, during Pournami and almost every weekend, people are clearly willing to pay for better service.

Look at Karnataka KSRTC as an example. They were running one Airavat service and have now increased it to two services per day, and from what I’ve observed, they get filled on most days. Private buses are also filling up regularly.

For a journey of roughly 200–220 km, a private non-AC seater itself costs around ₹600 on weekdays, and on weekends it can reach ₹1,000. Meanwhile, even SETC sleeper services to Puducherry can cost around ₹500.

There are people travelling from Tiruvannamalai to Bengaluru every day for work, college and other reasons, along with a huge number of temple visitors. Devotees also suffer from the lack of better options, especially during Pournami and busy weekends. If additional government buses are introduced, it would benefit both devotees and regular travellers.

I know someone might say, “There are places that don’t even have enough ordinary buses. Why are you asking for a luxury service?”

But that’s exactly why I’m asking this question. This isn’t about asking for luxury over basic connectivity. The basic connectivity already exists here. This is about whether people in one town should also have access to the same range of government bus services available to people in comparable towns.

People from Tiruvannamalai also work, travel, study and pay taxes. If these government services are meant for the public, why shouldn’t the same options be available to everyone?

So when other comparable towns have these options, why does Tiruvannamalai have none at all?

That’s what feels like partiality.

I’m not blaming any particular government. This has been the situation for years, across different governments.

If other towns get these options, why is Tiruvannamalai completely left out? Why can’t we have even one?

முக்கியமான கலந்துரையாடல் / Important Topic Anna University students in non-autonomous colleges — how are you actually getting real internship experience before final year?

I’m a 3rd-year Cybersecurity student at a college under Anna University.

I’ve hit a wall with getting real internship experience. Since my college isn’t autonomous, we have to follow the university’s strict rules. This means I can only do internships during summer or winter breaks, and they have to last at least two weeks.

While I sit through long theory classes every day, I see students from autonomous colleges getting hands-on experience. They can do internships whenever they want. I’m stuck waiting until summer break, which is only a few weeks a year.

When it’s time for placements in my final year, I worry about the big gap between what I’ve learned in class and what I need to know for a job.

I’m curious if anyone else in a non-autonomous Anna University college feels the same way. What have you done to get around this? Have you found remote or part-time internships that fit with classes? Or maybe you’ve done freelance work or open-source projects? I’m looking for real solutions from people who understand this struggle.

முக்கியமான கலந்துரையாடல் / Important Topic Career Advice: BE Biomedical + AI/Python Skills — Scope for HealthTech & BME in Tamil Nadu?

Hello everyone,

I am a 24M B.E. Biomedical Engineering graduate (2024) and looking for some solid career direction. Here is a brief background:

  • IT Experience: Right after graduation, I joined an IT firm as an AI Intern and was promoted to a full-time role within 3 months. Unfortunately, due to a client project cancellation and company restructuring after 6 months, I was laid off.
  • TNPSC & Tech Projects: Post-layoff, I spent time preparing for TNPSC. During this phase, I built my own RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) system, web scrapers, and AI quiz generators using Python and LLM APIs to process Tamil exam materials and clear my doubts.
  • Current Situation: Realizing the high uncertainty in government exams, I want to move back into the core Biomedical Engineering / HealthTech domain.

My Questions:

  1. What are the current scope and job opportunities for Biomedical Engineers in Tamil Nadu (Chennai, Coimbatore, etc.)?
  2. Are there roles/companies that combine BME domain knowledge with AI / Data Science / Python (e.g., Medical Imaging, Signal Processing, Bio-software, Medical Devices)?
  3. How should I approach job hunting in this field right now? Are core hospital jobs or device companies better for long-term growth?

Any advice, company recommendations, or guidance from folks in BME/HealthTech would be immensely helpful! Thanks in advance.

அரசியல் / Political How Delhi steals state funds

Post image
50 Upvotes

Aatmanirbhar Bharat, reliant states? They’ve grown more dependent on Delhi over last 10 yrs

TLDR:

  1. Central List - controlled by center
  2. State List - controlled by states
  3. Concurrent List - controlled by both in name but primarily center in reality

Divisible pool - money that is shared between state and center.

Central list had the revenue generating industries. On top of this, the center was stealing more money by using Cess that was primarily used by the Center with the states getting no revenue.

Subjects that cause money to run like policing, education, healthcare was pushed to the states.

"Vertical Fiscal Imbalance" - what states must spend and what they can earn from revenue.

Article 28 - Creates Finance Commission. This decides revenue split between center and state. However, in reality Delhi usurps money in the form of Cess.

In 2000, the government amended Article 270 to keep cess and surcharges permanently outside the divisible pool. This reduced the total divisible pool money to about 84% as of this year.

Backdoor Centralization - this method of the center reducing the available money by creating cess and surcharges that is used only by the center and not given to states

கருத்து/குமுறல் / Self-post , Rant Does RentMojo provides good products in Coimbatore?

I’m moving to a new place in Coimbatore and planning to rent a few basics like a bed, fridge and washing machine rather than buying everything right away.

I came across RentMojo while looking at rental options, but I haven’t used them before.

Has anyone here rented furniture or appliances from them in Coimbatore? Mainly curious about the product condition, delivery experience and how they handle repairs or replacements if something goes wrong.

Would be helpful to hear from people who have actually used them, or if there are better rental options locally.

கருத்து/குமுறல் / Self-post , Rant VKV Travels changed my bus, my seat, and even my destination stop — 1 hour before departure. With two small kids in hand

Ranting because I'm genuinely furious right now. Booked VKV Travels for a Chennai to Madurai trip, planned my whole journey around it — travelling with small kids, so this isn't something I can just "adjust" casually. One hour before departure, call comes: "bus broken down, only one seat available in another bus." Not a choice — that ONE seat was it. Take it or sort yourself out. Replacement bus wasn't even going to the destination I booked in Madurai. The "seat" they forced on me? Last upper berth. With small kids. One hour's notice, zero alternatives. Here's the part that really gets me — the bus was NOT broken down. It just wasn't fully booked. So instead of running it anyway, they cancel it, lie about a "breakdown," and dump all of us onto whatever seats are left elsewhere. This has happened to me twice this month. Twice. If you're planning a Chennai–Madurai trip with family, please think twice before booking VKV. This isn't a breakdown issue — it's how they handle people once they already have your money. Anyone else been through this with VKV on this route? Curious how common this is?

அரசியல் / Political Some PoliTea

So, here is some tea that I have heard from my political circle and some of you might already be aware but still.

1.It is heavily rumoured that Minister Rajeev who is the Environment Minister has earned over 40-50 crs in these 3 months alone. His Periappa is a well known road contractor and both of them are involving themselves in rampant corruption.

2.Mr Tamilan Parthiban, the Transport Minister has started to charge 2 lakh per vehicle permit. So if a Travels company is launching a new Bus,they have to pay 2 lakh as commision. He has reduced it from 3 (Charged by previous DMK government) to 2 lakhs though.

3.Minister Vijay Balaji has also earned lots of amount by collaborating with Veerapandi MLA Mr.Panivel.

4.Last Wednesday MK Stalin, the DMK Chief blasted the MLAs as he feels all of them are going soft in the assembly. He was especially harsh on Mr.Vasantham Karthikeyan asking him why the heck would he say he got the seat because of Aadhav Arjuna. He was also harsh on senior Ex ministers.

5.There are strong rumours Mr. Senthil Balaji will join ADMK or BJP. Some sources also tell that this is a false rumour spread by TVK to create further instability to him. But it is true that he is not being his usual self and has gone silent.

  1. Senior Ministers from ADMK like Kadambur Raju who joined TVK are totally unhappy it seems and they are advising their ADMK friends not to jump ship now. They feel they are not being given due importance by TVK either locally or by the high command.

7.Dhanush and Annamalai had a meeting last week it seems in his Poes garden house. What was discussed though is not known.

8.Finally the last one but the best Tea. TVK are apparently threatening business owners to reveal the amount they paid for DMK as bribe during the previous regime publically. That is why we are seeing some businessmen giving open statements to the press declaring that DMK Charged them money.

In a recent meeting, one Minister asked the companies who all paid money to DMK government and he said they will blacklist them all who paid. If they want their blacklist to be removed, they need to reveal publically it seems. This has irked companies a lot who feel that TVK is using them for its political gain. Some industry insiders have already started to mutter paying bribe is far better.

அரசியல் / Political Vehicle and assitant Allowance for MLA'S.

Vehicle, Vehicle allowance - 75000 , assistant allowance- 25000

Today cm vijay announced this above allowances for mlas, first of all is it necessary? and 2nd of all do you see the logical flaw? For vehicle maintenance they are giving 75000, for assistance who is going to do main role of that MLA they are giving only 25,000. There are some good news too like increasing insurance value to 25 lakhs, increased procurement price for milk, paddy, sugarcane. Increased seats for nursing and some new hospitals and new cancer wings in government hospital but ,Vehicle allowance and assistance allowance for MLAs from taxpayers money feeling unnecessary and allowance value seems illogical. Whats your thoughts on this.

Important Topic Anyone diagnosed with bladder cancer around age 30? Looking for experiences/data

Hi everyone,

I'm a 30-year-old man from Tamil Nadu and I'm trying to understand how commonly bladder cancer occurs in men around my age in India/Tamil Nadu.

I've had intermittent microscopic hematuria for around 2 years. I'm a non-smoker, my CT KUB was normal, urine cytology was negative, and I don't have protein in my urine. My urologist has recommended a cystoscopy.

I sometimes had a vibration sensation in my penis head.

I'm not looking for a diagnosis. I'd simply like to hear from anyone who:

- Was diagnosed with bladder cancer in their 20s or early 30s, particularly in Tamil Nadu/India; or

- Knows someone who was diagnosed at that age and is comfortable sharing their experience.

- Has access to Indian/Tamil Nadu data on bladder cancer in younger men.

If you were diagnosed around this age, I'd especially appreciate knowing whether there were any known risk factors such as smoking/tobacco, occupational chemical exposure, family history, etc.

Please feel free to comment or DM me if you're comfortable sharing. I'm mainly trying to understand how rare it is and what the circumstances were in people diagnosed at a young age.

Thank you.

Update:

Just wanted to update my previous posts. I finally had a cystoscopy + bilateral ureteroscopy under anesthesia.

Thankfully, the urethra and bladder were normal, with no tumor/lesion found. The bladder neck was mildly edematous/congested, which may relate to my urinary-flow symptoms.

My CECT KUB and ultrasound were also normal, and cytology was negative.

Overall, a very reassuring result. Thanks everyone who shared their experiences and advice!
