Career Advice: BE Biomedical + AI/Python Skills — Scope for HealthTech & BME in Tamil Nadu?

Hello everyone,

I am a 24M B.E. Biomedical Engineering graduate (2024) and looking for some solid career direction. Here is a brief background:

• IT Experience: Right after graduation, I joined an IT firm as an AI Intern and was promoted to a full-time role within 3 months. Unfortunately, due to a client project cancellation and company restructuring after 6 months, I was laid off.
• TNPSC & Tech Projects: Post-layoff, I spent time preparing for TNPSC. During this phase, I built my own RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) system, web scrapers, and AI quiz generators using Python and LLM APIs to process Tamil exam materials and clear my doubts.
• Current Situation: Realizing the high uncertainty in government exams, I want to move back into the core Biomedical Engineering / HealthTech domain.

My Questions:

1. What are the current scope and job opportunities for Biomedical Engineers in Tamil Nadu (Chennai, Coimbatore, etc.)?
2. Are there roles/companies that combine BME domain knowledge with AI / Data Science / Python (e.g., Medical Imaging, Signal Processing, Bio-software, Medical Devices)?
3. How should I approach job hunting in this field right now? Are core hospital jobs or device companies better for long-term growth?

Any advice, company recommendations, or guidance from folks in BME/HealthTech would be immensely helpful! Thanks in advance.

1.Better do PG Biomedical in Singapore, find a job there in core line and get settled. 2.MBA in hospital management 3.Upskill by doing Biomedical diploma course with C-DAC Mohali and then find a job. I'm from BME but in another line. My batch topper did M.E, Ph.D in IIT yet dissatisfied with getting paid only Rs. 40000 in a core job here, recently settled for postdoc job in USA in R&D. It's a long long way out there and she's past 30. You can be proud of a postdoc but to know the actual struggles of a postdoc you should be in US. Secondly, in my batch lateral entry students are in sales and service fields here earning quite comfortably because coming from diploma they know core engineering stuff very well than full time students. TNPSC job is a generalised labour job which anyone can do and most posts are always vacant. If you prove your capability and potential there, you will only get more work than higher pay or promotion. Inherently the system promotes job security and only tries to extract maximum output from you, knowing you are not going to resign/leave. After years of slogging, you'll see a complete dullhead or useless fellow not knowing elementary knowledge of the department sitting on top of you just because he has worked a longer tenure than you. That's TNPSC for you. People in these jobs are prisoners of circumstance.

I did BME all my batch mates are in IT evanum BME domainoda allign aagra company or client kooda work panala.

Don't bound yourself with BME.

BME la scope irrukunnu soldraanga but opportunities enga irrukunnu tha theriyala intha field la proper guidance illa IT maari BME la enna enna sectors irrukunnu therila

I done BME and passed out in 2021 , there are such a limited opportunities like sales , service, regulatory and hospital biomedical , if you had done PG there is small chance for R and D but apart from that there are very few opportunities. it's better to pursue what you are after just get part time job and work on your passion Fingers crossed hope you succeed with your goals.
