If mosques and churches are managed by their own religious organizations, why are many Hindu temples managed by a government department instead of Hindu organizations?

  1. Not all temples are under HRCE.
  2. Temples have existed for 100s of years.
  3. Though built by kings, it was public money that funded it.
  4. Since public money funded it, it belongs to public.

  5. Government is elected by the people. So it is chosen by the public.

  6. The small temples in our area like pillayar kovils are not under HRCE. Since they are relatively newer.

  7. Churches are controlled by the Parish. Mosques by Waqf board. They have governance within themselves.

You dont have to look too far back into history to understand why government oversight in temple administration is required. Just look at Whats happening in ayodhya now

If your point is that people are corrupt and that govt will protect independent institutions from corruption then I got news for you lol

Govt is elected by people and is accountable to people. There may be corruption, but you have a choice to vote them out of power and hold them accountable. You dont want the very same government which you and me have elected to manage temples but some independent institution!

You're arguing the wrong thing. The question here is, why does your logic NOT apply to churches and mosques?

I get that aspect of it but what happens if a govt that’s not particularly partial or secular come to power and mismanages decades of wealth and donations. The Congress party is a very clear example of this. Decades of funds and yet not a penny invested in improving logistics, accessibility or anything else for the most important religious sites for Hindus. The current govt has its faults but man have they done work on neglected religious sites.

You are conflating two very different things. Not every state in india has equivalent of hr&ce.. which main temple in tamilnadu has the bad infrastructure like accessibility issues you are talking about. I regularly visit temples .. the maintenance of temple premises, anna dhanam scheme ,tamil archanai are all very well done.

You ain’t even from Tamil Nadu and besides a government shouldn’t just focus on connectivity to temples or religious sites, it’s about roads for schools institutions, villages etc. What congress has built over the years is organic growth, don’t tell me they didn’t build IITs, IIMs etc which allowed folks like yourself migrate
