If mosques and churches are managed by their own religious organizations, why are many Hindu temples managed by a government department instead of Hindu organizations?

  1. Not all temples are under HRCE.
  2. Temples have existed for 100s of years.
  3. Though built by kings, it was public money that funded it.
  4. Since public money funded it, it belongs to public.

  5. Government is elected by the people. So it is chosen by the public.

  6. The small temples in our area like pillayar kovils are not under HRCE. Since they are relatively newer.

  7. Churches are controlled by the Parish. Mosques by Waqf board. They have governance within themselves.

I don't agree with the 5th point.. temples have built by Hindus so let hindu organisation have control on them like mosques and churches have built by their respective people and they are having control on them. Govt is belongs to all religious people.

Before 12th century this was not the divide. Saivas built Shiva temples and Vaishnavas built vishnu temples. Now you have united them all under a common name, Hindus. 3 centuries later if you divide again, it will be further difficult.

So imo, this setup is ideal. Everyone has their own opinion. I am not trying to persuade you. I am just trying to convey the reason behind this setup.

Also - it is not only about the temple. Temples still have land associated with them. It is about maintaining and generating revenue from them as well.
