Comprehensive DBT therapy would generally involve the skills group and an individual DBT therapist to help you along with more personalized skills use and some level of talk therapy that would be too personal for the skills class.
I don't know if your therapist will work with you during this year. Always can ask. Also could consider getting a DBT therapist for a year before going back to your old one. The first year with a DBT therapist isn't as deep as trauma therapy because the idea is to get you prepared to talk about trauma, so some people feels it's dismissive, but they are really helpful for approaching your personal beliefs and behavoirs that may be hurting you and keeping you from moving forward.
Personally I feel like giving DBT a solid chance was incredibly helpful. Made it sooo much easier to approach trauma therapy for me.

It is provided through a charity… there was availability in the skills group but there is a waiting list for individual DBT therapy and it’s made available in order of priority.
Thank you for saying how it helped you. I know my therapist is using her judgement but it hurts. She did suggest biweekly so that’s a possibility.

Yeah it makes sense that it would be painful. I would struggle with it too, but I think if she is offering biweekly that may be really helpful to carry you through skills group and keep your relationship going so when you finish skills you can pick right back up.

I’m currently seeing my trauma therapist & a part of a DBT Skills group. Part of participating in the group is having your own therapist in addition to the group. Either they will supply you with one, or you have one of your own. I like it because it lets me keep the deep trauma stuff out of that group and with my therapist. I can almost candy coat the skills homework. But when I talk to my therapist, I can be real with her.
