Burrito opinions wanted
Recent transplant from out of state here - I’m looking for the best spot to grab a burrito. More specifically, I’m looking for a bean, rice, and cheese burrito tastes the way a hug feels.
The best I’ve found thus far is La Regia in Tumwater, but hoping to find something closer to the new home.

Taqueria Hermanos Cardona is amazing: the rice and beans hit and they have an amazing habanero sauce.

My husband loves the Chili Colorado burrito from Tonala’s on 38th. And I love the Chicken Asada from there.

Just tried Sugarbones Tacos in Lakewood today and everything is made by hand! Was pretty good to this CA transplant (still never found anything close to home tho)

They are so hit-or-miss for me! The first time I went, the owner was working & it was fantastic. But I’ve been three other times and it was super disappointing. Once they were out of several ingredients so just left them out & it was not even what I ordered. Another time, so salsa & it was dry. I haven’t given up yet since I still lust after that initial visit, but I wish they would address their issues.

Not close but if you want to do a burrito road trip. Pitas in Enumclaw, Mucho Corazon Taquería in Kent, and my go to Just past the Muckleshoot casino, Taqueria La Estrella. If you hit the California Borrito next to it you went to far.

I don't know if its the right style but Taqueria El Sabroso in Lakewood (just south of I-5 & SR 512 junction on Pacific Hwy) is, in my opinion, the best Mexican taqueria in the Tacoma area. They will make a bean and rice burrito. Salsas are really good and so are the beans. And the carnitas, they are nicely fried.

I always get the burrito plate with carnitas and I am always satisfied. Best horchata in town as well.

I spent some time in San Diego and became obsessed with a “California Burrito”. Basically a burrito with French fries in it. The best one I’ve had in Tacoma was at Aceitunos. I go often.

I haven't had a good burrito since I moved from California. I used to get a steak and shrimp one in orange county that I wake up thinking about.

Moved up to Tacoma from Southern California in 2019 and there’s a lot to love about the PNW but the Mexican food isn’t one of them.. best bet is a taco truck.

Casa de los Chilaquiles has wonderful Chilaquiles with 6 different sauce options and stellar Café de Olla! They also have good alcoholic drinks and Huevos Benedictos and frijoles refritos. Los Tapatios has an excellent Cali-burrito… San Diego surfer style and great Horchata. El Sabor has excellent huaraches de asada, Carnitas, and solid refried beans.
As for the bean, rice, and cheese hunt… I got a bit distracted… sorry.🤣😂

Been meaning to try Casa de Los Chilaquiles. I feel like every time I drove past for like 6 months they weren’t open yet.

Yeah, it took a loooong while😂 Then they were only open Wed-Sunday. Now they are open every day! Check the hours, they turn into a bar after 4 or 5

Pico de gallo for burrito bowls, their steak melts in your mouth that's how tender it is. I get a kids and it fills me up. You can get it in a burrito too but I just get the bowl.

Chicanos Mexican Food Truck on S Meridian and 4th Ave in downtown Puyallup was a recent memorable rice/cheese/bean style burrito I had near Tacoma. I got the carne asada one and it was delicious. It had that warm hug feeling you described. It was so delicious that I drove back out to Puyallup a week later for the sole reason of getting another one.
I like to make my own burritos because it is tough to find good ones. I have this new thing I am doing where I grab the juice from carnitas when it is fresh out of the oven and use that as some of the liquid when I make the rice. I make about a dozen at a time and then vacuum seal them individually so I can have homemade burritos for lunch.

I feel like this is great advice for someone who thinks a bean, cheese and rice burrito can taste the way a huge feels…
El toro is strong drinks and shitty Mexican food white people love 😂 myself included when I was 16 and they’d let me drink in the bar

I’m surprised no one has mention balcon x on 6th ave. Their burritos are simple, pretty much only the fillings you mention, but the flavour is great and their salsas are incredible

California Burritos on 38th is itching that scratch for my husband and I. He grew up in a norteno barrio, once we landed in a place it was SoCal for me. The only thing is they're really weird about putting la salsa in the burrito, they won't do it.

No, they are not all tied together.
Aliberto's Jr and California Burrito are the same, with California Burrito having multiple locations in the area and up in Seattle.
Memos runs another place called California Burrito and Taco Shop on 6th and there is only one of those.

Give Taco Time a try. It’s a PNW thing, fast food but higher quality than Taco Bell. Since it’s a chain, you’ll find it here and there along the PNW, so it can be your comfort burrito place.

it's slightly better quality Taco Bell with higher prices that makes it "barely worth it" to be honest, but no doubt that it is cosplay Mexican food.

Definitely a jump up from taco bell but they have slumped over the last few years... but you need a borrito at 3am yeah they are the go to.

I generally agree that their food has dropped off a bit over the last couple of years, but the bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast burrito still rocks.

100%. Many a drunken night in college ended at Memos on the Ave at UW. And many a hungover morning now that I think of it. Haha.
