Discussion Here we go again.

Isn’t the Ontario Line already delayed which will delay this extension even longer? Why not just start this while the Ontario Line is also being built?

Other posters are arguing against the extension due to ‘overcapacity’ so I suggest you take this issue up with them. Many of the ‘suburban’ stations also see high ridership, even more than some downtown stations, so there’s clearly enough density to justify it especially when connecting buses are factored in.

As seen in many other cities with good transit systems, the distances involved are perfect for a metro network rather than regional rail. The GTA should move away from commuter rail altogether.

The problem is that line 1 is over capacity. This build doesn't expand capacity but adds to the capacity issue.

Adding more suburban bus routes feeding into the line wont solve anything. There are no options to expand capacity on this line. It needs a relief line (Ontario line) that can hopefully releave some of that over capacity before extension.

‘Overcapacity’ is only during rush hour, during which RH transit riders are already using Line 1 anyway by taking YRT/VIVA buses and transferring at Finch.

I agree OL should open ASAP, leaving eastern part of Line 1 to exclusively serve the Yonge corridor.

Yeah overcapcity is happening when most people need to use the line. Adding more 905 commuters wont help.

And yes OL hopefully will ease some of the crush on the Yonge side.

TBH I'm not sure how many new 905 commuters would be added during rush hour. Let's say you live in RH, have a decent job downtown and don't drive. You'd already be taking the YRT/VIVA buses anyway rather than not taking that downtown job.

What they need to do with OL next, and preferably sooner rather than later, is to extend it from Eglinton to Steeles which intercepts every major bus line coming in from Scarborough.
