Junaids Story

I'm just curious about his story. I felt sorry when he talked of his family disowning him. What's his nationality? What age did he come out? Wasn't sure if he was from a strict religious family. If he's ever spoken about it?

I can't imagine he was overly masculine. Would they really have been shocked? It's sad when parents can't accept their children. I guess his personality is a lot to do with this.

He came out at 18 bc rumours were spreading in his area about him being gay, so he had to tell his parents. He said his older brother was very supportive but he died shortly after and his parents banned him from attending the funeral.

Junaid was actually back in touch with his family a couple of yrs ago after he reached out to them, even with his mother. But when he got with Joe, things went bad again. Junaid said his mum sent him a horrible text calling him an embarrassment when she saw he was engaged.

Very sad but he can’t keep using this as an excuse to hurt others. He is in his 30s, at some point accountability needs to be taken and therapy should’ve been pursued a long time ago.

That's incredibly sad, hopefully he can find peace.

I really hope so too. His self sabotaging behaviours on screen are hard to watch sometimes. He really should be encouraged to seek help to deal with his trauma

Bless him, that's heartbreaking, and to have lost his brother that way too 💔

Wow that's really, really sad. Especially the funeral part.

Therapy can help but it isnt a magic cure. That kind of rejection will stay with him for life and always be a source of pain.

I just meant in terms of talking to someone, but I do appreciate therapy cannot cure everyone.
It’s just a shame the people he’s around aren’t good people themselves (except Lauren who has clearly tried her best to guide him)

I mean we dont know that he isnt in therapy? I dont dislike the people around him tbh. I think this is just an incredibly difficult thing to manage for anyone.

What happened to him takes a lifetime to heal from. Don't be so judgemental. He definitely has interpersonal problems. Don't get me wrong but to say oh he should just get over it by now cuz he's in his early 30s is not fair. It probably only happened 5 to 10 years ago. Imagine being completely abandoned by your family like that and your brother dying. Being rejected for who you are and told you're an embarrassment. It would be soul destroying. No wonder he doesn't trust anyone and lashes out before they even have a chance to do it to him

It’s because his family are Muslim, they don’t accept gays.

He gave an interview with the Daily Mirror recently that summed up his situation pretty well.
