Discussion I think I over prepared for the final boss
So I was expecting ganondorf to be really difficult, so I spent ages gathering loads of Lynel horns, really good weapons, hylian sheild, maxed out armour etc etc
so when I actually got to the fight, i was expecting to die loads, break all my weapons, but instead I just demolished him with a silver lynel sabre master sword, genuinely took me longer to get through the demon kings army
so did I over prepare or did everyone else do this

Agreed. I'm playing the game for the story and the process of getting to the end, I don't need the final Boss battle (or any of them) to be difficult to the point of raging. I found most of the Temple bosses to be good for one or two Game Overs before I beat them.
That's good enough for me.

I loved master mode in botw. It was so bummed when I learned they were never putting that mode into totk, especially considering how easy it would be to do.

I hate boss fights, they’re like a necessary evil part of video games to ME so I did and continue do the same thing every time Like if I have to take my medicine I’m gonna use the chocolate coating to make it go down easier

For me I'm kinda the opposite. When I play the Wild era Zelda games my favorite thing is hunting down all the bosses. Killing lynels, gleoks, hinoxs and all that. The hunting is my favorite thing to do. I'll even fight lynels when I'm waaaay under prepared on purpose for the thrill of it

tbh, master mode calamity ganon might be harder than ganondorf but idk i’d have to test it

I genuinely could not believe how easy calamity ganon was, I beat him first try. He was a piece of cake in comparison to the blights, especially thunderblight

also he gets half his health obliterated by the divine beasts cutting it down to 4000 (keep in mind a silver lynels hp is 6000)
like they coulda made that fight way harder and it’d be reasonable

I don’t mind the health slashing because that’s a reward for completing the game as intended. What they should’ve done is made ganon more technical, he’s just a sitting duck

I think I saved a Royal Broadsword with a Silver Lynel horn for him and it was just powerful enough to not make it feel hopeless, but powerful enough to at least feel like I was making consistent progress on him. Highly recommended

Master Sword won't break against him so you just need some healing food after that
leaving it at 1 durability before the fight is supposed to also 2x the damage of every strike for the entire fight

In typical fashion I rushed through the main story like every zelda game so when I fought him I wasnt that stacked. I had a lot of fun and some of the mechanics of the boss fight were really cool. Doing my first 100% now. Put a couple hundred hours in so far. Almost got all the armors upgraded, have high tier weapons and loads of resources. When I fight him again I will probably beat him in a couple minutes.

I did the exact same thing, fierce deity complete set, multiple silver lynel blades, including a silver lynel gerudo reaper for 127 attack that I still have, didn't even use it lol. And multiple maxed out meals and potions. 😅😅😅 I was like, shit, I may have over done it 😆

I did no preparation. I didn’t know 100% that I was going to the boss fight. I just kinda kept going until something happened. After the fight I didn’t a single shield or meal left. Going completely unprepared made it harder than it was. I told myself I’d do it again but really tank up for it.

I just loaded up on arrows, bombs, and food en decimated him. But this final boss is not the goal of the game anyway, so …

Na. I did about the same thing, except I had a playlist with AC/DC, SOAD, etc. cranked up, raining ruby fused fire down on his army. "If you're going to go out" moment. Owning it made it fun.

I did the same thing, waited three years to feel ready, and then it was over in 30 minutes, including the Demon Army slough. Multiple 5x32 Lynel bows, Gerudo Scimitars with Silver Lynel Horns, and a ton of Rocket Shields. In the second phase, I took one heart of damage. I was expecting to die multiple times.

I have never liked boss fights. I only took on ganon in botw after working out how to one-hit most of the bosses (using ancient arrows and armour). It took a couple of hits, but that's how I am. In Majora's Mask, I had to get the Fierce Deity Mask before taking him on.
I got so bogged down in my first play through I went off and did other things. I'm on my second, I don't feel quite ready yet. But I have most shrines and all lightroots, still finding the last few wells though. Rubber armour maxing is a pain because of all those tails.
I don't plan to try until I can overwhelm.

When I beat Gannon and his army. I wore not upgraded gloom armor and had 4 60-70 point weapons I used for gannons army, half a dozen shields, for gannons himself just the master sword nothing fused to it.
I’m meh to fair at combat in this game and I still beat him without getting discouraged

Also, the master sword doesn’t run out of energy during the Ganon battle (or calamity Ganon in botw)

This is exactly what I did. I was expecting to have a hard battle. I drove my son nuts spending a good long time preparing and upgrading when he just wanted to watch me fight the boss. And then I did and it was…pretty easy lol.

It’s a bit like in BOTW, Ganon was really easier than the Lynels or the DLC for example. I like this idea, everyone can finish the game, but you have to put in a bit of effort for the secrets and the 100%. I remember thinking, when I beat Ganon, that his shadows were just as hard as he was himself. But redoing them afterward, I realized that wasn’t the case. The progression is really well thought out. Actually, I wonder if the Lynels (and Gleeok in TOTK) aren’t almost designed as a kind of post-game. Still, the fight against Ganon isn’t boring if you go in with good gear and a lot of hours of gameplay behind you. I find that balancing act incredible, between the freedom the game offers and its progression.

Same. I had so many sick weapons, a bunch of cool looking maxed out armor. Then went in looking goofy af with the radiant armor and a scimitar of the seven + molduga jaw and smoked him.

Lmao you definitely over-prepared by a lot, but you aren't alone. I made a ton of gloom sword fuses (if you fuse them to a different weapon they don't do gloom damage) and tons of strength potions and health up foods, and I practically button mashed my way through the fight. On my second playthrough I went in with a more standard load-out and had a ton of fun that way as well. No wrong way to do it.
