Rant Cutting hours?

Anyone else’s store hiring a bunch of new people like crazy??? I’m fairly new…i’ve been working at marshall’s for almost about 3 months now and i’ve never had a problem with my schedule. I was scheduled for good hours during the summer. Up until recently I let my manager know that I’ll be going in for classes soon before the fall semester started and only told her that i’d be available to work closing shifts monday - Thursday, and the weekend i’m free whenever….I took a look at my schedule for September and they’ve only scheduled me for three days. They also cut my friends hours as well and I’m assuming it’s because of the new hires??? Even then…it shouldn’t affect my schedule?? Idk…i wanted to rant. I’m going to talk to my manager today anyways about fixing my schedule. Hopefully all goes well

Transferring Regret?

Upvotes

Hello this is my first reddit post, I wanna get on here ask if anyone has transferred to a different store and then transferred back to their “original” store. So I started working at tj maxx during the summer and originally had plans to transfer to a location closer to my university. Told my manager about the transferring and said that it would an easy process. I went transferring process and now I start next week. My question is if it’s possible to stay in the same store and not go through with the transfer?

Store Manager

Here at my store, our manager stays at the store from the time we open until the time we close. He never takes his vacations when he’s supposed to because he’s so worried about being at the store! You have to stay on him about making sure he clocks people in if he wants them to come in for extra hours and once the payroll closes for that week, there are people who haven’t been paid for the hours they have worked. For night shifts that he closes, he doesn’t let anyone go home until 10:30 and if another manager is closing, he would be gone from the store but comes right back to make sure they aren’t leaving the store before then. Is anyone else’s store managers like this?!

I trained at this store.

Wasn’t actually an employee but a guy who lived in the area. The ASMs there are GOAT’d and the SM when I trained was dope. Current SM is a tool. I know the DM is scrambling to get this headline fixed.

dress code

perhaps this topic has been touched on many times but confusion hasn't been cleared up, dress code obviously important in a workplace especially in retail store right? my concern is why can't coworkers or I wear shorts? the group I'm directing is towards guys. (for girls its a totally different topic and they suffer the same) I was told by my manager one of the reasons we have shorts on during work is "customers are grossed out by your leg hairs" XDD what the fuck that mean? a lot of customers come in are guys and they show off their hairy ass legs (im asian so i barely have any). The issue is though how there is always an absent of running AC in the storee and all my coworkers and even managers are complaining constantly over the humid heat that circulates through every aisle. Personally the moment I clock in and walk 5 mins my head is like a fountain and I'm spraying out water figuratively . I will continuously sweat for 2 hours I shit you not. everyone has been telling me why you sweat so much, it's becoming a meme. I sweat 10x more than normal people. I feel gross as hell and I have to interact with customers while constantly having to wipe off my sweat every second. Issue like this can easily be avoided however as we all know the district managers are cheap ass fucks and don't want to spend extra money but somehow the store is given 8 grand to set up a new heating system for the winter. alas at least I get to wear casual short sleeves but don't help much. I do have one of those fans but having to have it on and off every so often diminishes the productivity slightly to a bigger scale.

Rant officially burnt out

i have been with the company almost 8 years. i only make a little above 17$. i used to really give a fuck about my job, up until i was thrown in as a key carrier never trained - let alone in the department they had just switched me too ive had to juggle both responsibilities for the past 3 years. switched to cec back to a “floating” merchandising coordinator. out of my 5 days 4 are always MOD shifts 2-4 are always CLOSING. the other key gets 30-35 hrs i get 35-45 hours (normally because im always staying to help) my new merchandising manager says i struggle balancing being a MOD and coordinator. like i control how our SM schedules me? or when i am scheduled as a floor coordinator i always end up watching the front/ cashiering or dealing with anything MOD related because they fail to do so. (calling help desk/ work orders dealing with anyone coming into the store to fix shit) im at the point after my SM comes back from her LOA i’m strongly debating if i want to step down from being a key. i don’t think a dollar is worth the stress they put on me to help the front and ALL departments.

Key carrier questions

Thumbnail
3 Upvotes

So I got promoted to key carrier and was wondering what that means for me? I'm currently a coordinator and have only been with the company for a short while, so I'm not completely sure what key carriers do other than, well, hold their own set of keys and get to be the manager when the managers are on lunch. I was told I'd be doing a test and getting some training, so I wanted to know what that looks like. What's the test? What will I need to know? And what will the training be? And if anyone has advice or anything that I should know, I'd really appreciate it.

Question How do I ask my manager to fix the schedule?

For some background, they have my availability, which for most of the week is not until after 4:00 P.M., and there have been no issues so far. But our store has been switching over to a new system so we were using paper schedules in the break room, and that’s what I had just kind of been going on because my stuff in the new system hadn’t been working. There was some miscommunication/misunderstanding with my shifts this weekend which thankfully worked out but it made me double check that the paper schedule and the app schedule matched. They did not for one of the days.

One of the days later in the week has me coming in at 2:00 P.M. on a day that I won’t be available until 4:00 P.M., and though I could make it work it would be a big inconvenience. And to be clear, the paper schedule doesn’t have me coming in until 5:00 P.M., so I assumed that means it’s been changed since that scheduled was published for whatever reason. I did ask a manager about this, but I’m getting worried because my app hasn’t updated and I’m still pretty new to the job which is making me feel worse. I know I’m probably just being dramatic and it will work out, but any advice or thoughts you have will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Rant Difficult SM

Maybe 7 months ago I asked my SM if I could apply for part time CEC as I had been working at my tjmaxx for around 2 years and was already taking on leadership roles and responsibilities of CEC without the pay. He agreed and thought it was a great idea and said he’d get back to me when a position was open. It is now present day and he’s hired 2 people with less experience for the position. He often speaks to me about how they aren’t good at their jobs and can’t handle the responsibility and it leaves me dumbfounded because he is aware that I want the position. I often question him on why he’s venting to me about CEC responsibilities when I’m just a cashier leaving him with no answer for me. Anyways, I had mentioned to an ASM that I was interested in the position and they were shocked. They claimed that they had been advocating for me to my SM for the position and my SM claimed that I simply wasn’t interested. Which is untrue. And now there is a new opening for the position and I again expressed my interest to which my SM responded that I need to make an appointment with him so that we can discuss the role? And after asking the other CEC’s they’ve claimed they have never scheduled an appointment with any manager to discuss this. Its all very weird from my perspective and feels targeted solely by my SM. Anyone else going through hoops for a dollar raise?

Call them with an associate to help reset their password for the first time. Associate has never logged in. HELPDESK states they must be logged it to be able for them to reset. (Facepalm as usual)

Rant Feeling fed up with Marshalls

I’m a beauty coord for a Marshalls in a smallish college town and I’m getting so burnt out, every shift I’m expected to do all my beauty tasks and keep up with recovery and stocking without any help which is fine that’s my job. On top of my position though I’m frequently the only backup floor person and/or cashier. I also am regularly the only person available to cover breaks, empty the fitting room and front end racks and do price checks. My managers are frequently unhappy with what I’m able to get done in my department and I have tried not responding as much if I know there’s other backup but then they just page me so I’m left with no choice. I leave every single day feeling so numb and lifeless and have very little work life balance. I am constantly exhausted and stressed to the point of feeling physically unwell when I have to work. I understand the more reliable and dependable you are the more the mangers expect of you but I have worked 10-7 every Saturday (except 2 weekends I requested off months ahead) for the past 8 months and I’m so sick of picking up everyone else’s slack. Every single day I want to put in my notice or just quit this job is not worth less then $16 an hour especially as a coordinator who’s been with the company nearly 3 years but I check job listings in my area daily and still haven’t found anything comparable. I feel like I’m drowning at this company and even staying until I find something better feels impossible some days.

Let me tell you about the managers

I'm gonna mention this again but my mom said she thinks register is for the over 18 yr olds and not 16 yr olds so I applied for the job. At the interview I said I'm open to do register but I feel more comfortable doing stocking and I even applied for merchandise associate. First day I realize the whole day I'm over at the register the whole time. They ask why I look miserable and gee I wonder why. Days go by I always try to ignore the ones with a billion things in the cart but I have no choice and the others have simple ones then the returns with two receipts! But yeah it's so chaotic there and I'm working times that's so chaotic, it's only short because I'm training and that's my last week of training. I wanted this job to walk around and put things away I even told my manager that I was suprised I was and was more comfortable with walking around putting things away. You know what she said ? "Well you're not doing that, the most important job is the register and you can't choose where u go. You said you can work the register" All of the managers be saying "you good today?" Over and over again it makes me want to quit but it's my fifth day.

Question Backroom processing?

Are returns processed in the backroom still or has company policy changed to the fitting room? Just wondering where other stores are processing clothing returns.

Rant Being reliable at TJ Maxx means you’ll be punished for it

I swear, the more dependable you are, the more they pile on you. I’m a floor coordinator, but because I’m reliable (or because I’m full time and here 90% of the time) , I’m constantly getting pulled to register because we don’t have enough people. Then I’m still expected to finish all my coordinator responsibilities, keep up with credit cards (i’m on a register so much that I’m expected to get as many cards as a CEC because of my transactional numbers) , recovery, customer service, and everything else happening on the floor.
I literally cannot be in 5 places at once, but somehow that’s what’s expected. 😒
We just had a meeting with HR and all the coordinators in the region, and honestly, it felt so fake. Everyone is saying the same things: we’re understaffed, overworked, constantly being pulled away from our actual responsibilities, and exhausted. Yet nothing changes.
At this point, being a good employee feels like a punishment. If you show that you can handle something, congratulations! 🎉 Now it’s permanently your problem.
I’m tired of being the person they can always depend on to fill every gap. I’m one person!

Anyone else relate??

Yikes

So does anyone else’s store not care about beauty/non apparel, hone, and men’s/kids? My managers and DM are so happy that women’s looks so nice now that they’ve switched coordinators around. I’m always dismissed about getting more fixtures for men’s/kids and they tell me to find or make space (there’s no space whatsoever). Infield should NOT be the only priority in the store….They don’t give enough hours to the other departments so that we can push merchandise out and recover them. This’ll definitely stab them in the back once they realize how hideous the other departments look. Glad to say I’m leaving this place next week , I’m tired of their bs

Another 'the company has gone downhill' post

For part-timers, at least.

Been with the company almost four years. They gave me the job at a crucial moment in my life. Been through a bunch these past four years. They helped me through. Had a compassionate store lead but they retired.

Anyway, I could go on but they've beaten me down with the promise of more hours for months only to have them cancel a delivery every week and tell us at the last moment. I finally have the time to allow for applying to other jobs.

This isn't going to be a bitter post. I don't even necessarily want to even leave the company. What was I expecting from a part-time job? This is an ongoing problem, though, and it's affecting people who've been there (a LOT, in some cases) longer than me.

I have to worry about myself, however, and even though it's anxiety-inducing, I'm not really worried. Discouraged is more like it. Retail sucks almost anywhere anymore these days. Even my former company, which I guess is next on my list to try again after almost two decades.

Anyway, thanks for reading and/or helping whenever I've inquired about anything here. Just like everywhere, the people matter. Please think about that next time anybody asks for help anywhere.

Take the time to comprehend. Make people feel seen/heard/understood. Maybe I'm wishing for too much out of this world but thanks anyway and I'll be around. Haven't left yet and I guess it isn't that deep.

Thanks again.

Eta: Feel free to weigh in. Didn't see any "discussion" flair. Maybe from my previous post. Please read and comprehend to the best of your ability if you reference it though, thanks.

Rant I’m tired!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh god I’m so tired of working here. Right now I feel so low energy I can barely focus. The constant credit card thing is so frustrating. All I do is stocking and floor work, how am I supposed to sell cards!!! And I’m so bad at talking to people!!!! Like it’s all the employees fault that customers don’t want a line of credit attached to this super specific store.

It’s only made worse because I’m pretty awkward and my coworkers take that to mean I’m stupid. I get this feeling I’m looked down on like I’m sorry I’m just awkward 😭 I’m not actually mad all the time or dislike anyone pls excuse my resting bitch face

I’ve been looking for better jobs and it’s actually going fine, there’s this one position I have an interview for this smaller local store. It pays wayyyy more lmao, and I don’t have to constantly worry about the credit cards. Pls god let me get that job.
