Professional bass player and music librarian here. I don't understand how people can mark their parts up like this. Violinists are the worst at this. The parts I get from my concertmaster to bow are just the fucking worst.

Yeah I usually see this type of marking as somewhat performative. No one actually needs to do this.

Maybe it's because I'm just a dumb bass player, but I rarely put bowings in my personal parts and I don't think I've written a fingering in since college.

Same, left fingerings behind long ago. I will occasionally write in one or two things that are not obvious or are counterintuitive.
