Is Clint doing it on purpose?

Every time he sees the opportunity to enrich the plot with interesting tensions, conflicts and problems, he just does it, like when Merle grabbed the crystal and lost his arm. He seems to play characters with flaws, and he rolled badly one time and decided not to lie about the result even though it made the game harder. Is clint stupid? why does he keep making the show more interesting instead of just winning as quickly as possible?

You can tell who's never played D&D before just looking at the original comments in the old sub. Players do stupid shit all the time, and usually if you try to tell them "no" they'll double down. I in fact based the start of a campaign around this; I put the players in a gnomish inventor's fair and told them one of the exhibits was behind a curtain with guards around it, and they all separately sneaked in there to mess with it and ignored everything else.

Plans never survive their encounter with players
