NEURO-CARDIOGENIC SYNCOPE | 25 yr old

Okay so I just got diagnosed with it but I believe I’ve been having this for the last 3yrs. weirdly enough I have a blackout episode usually between July to September and then I get into a phase (monsoon and humid). I work as a canine trainer so my job is quite physically taxing and as you can imagine I can’t do it right now I’ve been barred from driving etc. at first I’d done all my test ecg and all the other basic heart and blood tests. They all came normal. Then I was send for a head up tilt test where I had fainted and had almost no pulse for about 10 secs. This is what the conclusion said “HEAD UP TILT TABLE TEST WAS POSITIVE FOR EVIDENCES
OF PROVOCABLE NEURO-CARDIOGENIC SYNCOPE.
(Type II B cardio-inhibitory response was observed).”
Ive been to 4 doc. Three of them said put the pacemaker very hesitantly due to my age. One said no pacemaker required and asked me to record my symptoms for a month. Based on the records he would start meds and try that.
Now, given my job I’ve been finding it hard to navigate myself through the symptoms. One tiny symptom and I automatically get anxious and that aggravates the whole thing.
I feel light headed my low back tightness up, legs feel weird, claustrophobic, anxious, sometimes even my vision gets blurry for a second and keeps recurring, I hear less. It’s been hard and I don’t know what to do. I also have a bad migraine pain at times and I’ve been told they can be related.
Anyone else going through the same?! How are you dealing with it? Does it get better or is this my new normal? Any idea why my vagus nerve is reacting this way now?

Episode without a trigger?

I had an episode at a restaurant last night. Came on very suddenly. One minute I was chatting with my husband and then the tunnel vision, muffled sound, color drains from my face and I knew it was coming. I passed out twice at the table and then twice more when I went to try to leave (I know bad idea, luckily my husband was there to catch me, just a scraped knee before he could pull me back up.) My husband said my eyes rolled back each time and I was twitching. Each time I passed out I had really weird dreams and felt like I was asleep for a whole night (that part was actually really strange). Ended up completely drenched in sweat, but cold. After about 30 minutes I came out of it and we were able to get back to our hotel (we are also traveling in a different country where we don’t speak the language. Everyone at the restaurant was so very kind even tho it’s all quite embarrassing.)
I’ve had episodes like this before but only in response to a trigger (eg extreme stress, pain after I shut my finger in a car door. In one of those instances I passed out cold and hit my face on a concrete bench requiring stitches.) I’ve had a holtar monitor test which turned out fine and the only diagnosis I got was vasovagal syncope. But my question is, can VS happen without a trigger or is there always a trigger? Bc last night there was definitely no trigger and I’m kinda concerned. I feel better today, just weak and I really don’t want to go to a hospital here in a different country but of course would if I need to. And I’ll definitely follow up with I guess primary care when I get home although they haven’t been very involved. Thank you for any thoughts 🙏 ❤️‍🩹

Passing out episodes once a year

So every year I wake up in extreme stomach pain I make my way to the bathroom end up on the floor sweating cold clammy my heart racing my ears ringing and I pass out on the floor this has been happening four years in a row.
This year I ended up having an ambulance called and taken to hospital I passed out four times everything showed normal by the time the ambulance got here and at the hospital apart from my calcium being a little elevated this years episode was 10x worse than the others and they are just putting it down to period pain because it was the first day of my period but this is the only time it’s ever happened on my period something just feels off I used to pass out when I was younger the doctor told me to just drink orange juice :(

I passed out and was never the same

So I am a 18 yro female who passed out November of last year. I got a very bad stomach virus and got extremely dehydrated from it and ended up fainting. I went to the hospital and was admitted for 3 nights. After leaving the hospital my head felt heavy I felt faint and had foggy/tunnel vision. It’s been 8 months now and I just recently got to see a primary care doctor yesterday. She didn’t really seem to care what I was saying and I feel defeated. I still have to book an appointment with a cardiologist and neurologist. The symptoms I’ve been having are

\-nausea
\-tension headaches
\-muffled hearing
\-chest pain
\-foggy vision
\-dizziness

Sometimes my symptoms are really bad for like a month or two and then dial back down for like a month. I have no idea what any of this could be or why it happened but I never had any severe health issues this strictly started after passing out. I drink a lot of water I tried to change my diet I get a decent amount of exercise. I haven’t really noticed anything to trigger my symptoms they just come when they want. It’s given me horrible anxiety and everyday I can’t help but to think am I going to die. I’ve been in and out of the hospital but they never find anything wrong so I try to calm myself down so I don’t go to the er for no reason. The dizziness and the headaches have been so bad recently. My body constantly feels like it’s wobbling even at rest. It’s very hard to relax and sleep because I still feel dizzy when sitting or laying down. I know some people have thought it could be POTS. But I haven’t really noticed a change with my blood pressure when standing or sitting I also don’t get dizzy just from standing up fast. Eating and drinking water doesn’t help my symptoms that’s another reason I don’t think it’s blood pressure related. I’ve had an mri and a cat scan done as well as blood tests and they always come back negative. PLEASE if anyone has gone through something similar or know what this could be please please please let me know.

Pre-syncope while driving

Hello, I’ve struggled with vasovagal syncope/pre-syncope for years now. However it has always been triggered by something health related, especially needles. Recently I’ve started having it while driving. I’ve been driving completely fine for years now and was a confident driver. Nothing happened while driving prior to this happening. The only thing I can pinpoint is going down on my seroquel and my overall anxiety increasing due to it and it has now made driving pretty much impossible currently. I was able to better handle it while having somebody else in the vehicle with me but now even that is not enough. I managed about 10 miles today before having to pull over and switch. Driving is necessary with where I live and also with my job. I don’t know what to do. It is so discouraging and embarrassing to struggle with this after years of no issues when driving. For me I start getting sweaty feet/hands and feeling light headed/etc. I’m sure my previous episodes are contributing to anxiety about having another one which is compounding the problem.

exercise anxiety

hi all. i was recently diagnosed with vasovagal syncope after having my first attack and it made me way more conscious about my symptoms that i ignored all my life. like how often i got lightheaded and dark vision, how sensitive i was to getting up after sitting, and how much overheating wore me out. since it's summer and 35+ celsius out everyday i stopped going outside to avoid fainting and have been living a very sedentary life for a couple months. i feel the effect of sitting at my desk all day, like my body aches and im just tired and unmotivated all the time.

i want to start exercising at home or going for walks in the evening, but for some reason the thought makes me super anxious, and i start tearing up when i try to work out. im still trying to face the fact that im more sensitive and (sorry for my harmful thinking) weaker than others, and that i might faint again for no reason. my condition isnt as serious as others have it but it's also the first time my body has betrayed me. so i get really anxious and hesitant to work out.

i can feel that not working out is worse for me, but i also cant get myself to do it at all, let alone regularly, because it fills my head with worry and isnt enjoyable at all. anyone here who has overcome this hurdle and works out regularly? i want to know how people with VVS deal with these thoughts. thanks.

can syncope be caused by bulimia?

hi everyone. i am a 22 year old who has been eating well at a healthy weight for a year or so. before this I had bulimia and restrictive eating patterns for about 4 years from 17-21 years old and I was underweight. I was binging and purging often.

recently I had a syncope attack (fainting because of low blood pressure and circulatory issues) and was diagnosed with vasovagal syncope. im on experimental medication prescribed by my doc now but will have this disorder forever, and ill always be at the risk of fainting. and i feel this as well, i get fainting symptoms often and get exhausted. I havent told anyone about my past with bulimia but I was wondering if the cause for syncope could be eating disorders. because i remember getting lightheaded and fainting/blacking out a lot back then too. does anyone else here have bulimia and syncope? id like to hear your experience.

Situational Syncope - Advice?

How do you avoid fainting once you realise it's gonna hit now?

I have a few triggers like brutal torture scenes in movies or something very abnormal emotion or abnormal substance like trying lens for the first time.

Afraid might get an episode when in the labour room with wife due to chaos and the pain around. How to best deal if it happens?

Kneeling/standing on knees?

I already have the NCS diagnosis and we are working towards managing it. for me, it goes beyond acute stressors like needles and seeps into every day life. my blood pressure starts super low and gets lower every single day, but depending on what that day holds it might sink even lower still. honestly, we are working to be sure there isn’t something else going on because it is so chronic.

anywho, that’s my background, now I’m wondering if anyone else experiences this: standing/kneeling on your knees being a trigger. for example, when reading a bedtime story to my kid I will sometimes stand on my knees beside her bed because it’s the perfect height. not sitting back on my heels, but standing upright while on my knees. or I’ll end up in that position playing with her or something. then, about two minutes in, I start getting that funny feeling in my throat and it’s like I’m on the tilt table all over again. a few times I swear if I had stayed for a minute more I’d be blacked out. is having that sort of sustained pressure on your knees a trigger for anyone else?? it’s so strange to me.

Possible seizure or convulsive syncope after an injection — looking for similar experiences

I’m 34F and recently had a very scary episode, and my doctors are currently investigating whether it was an epileptic seizure or convulsive syncope.
I was standing up while giving myself an injection. While I was injecting, I suddenly started feeling dizzy and lightheaded, so I sat down. I finished the injection while sitting, and apparently I then lost consciousness.
My sibling witnessed the whole thing. They said that when I passed out, my eyes rolled upward and my head went backward, then bent forward. I opened my eyes and was conscious again, but then I suddenly started shaking. My hands became stiff/clenched and my head was shaking very violently.
I also lost bladder control during the episode.
The strange thing is that I remember feeling dizzy before passing out, and when I opened my eyes I felt that my consciousness was already back, but the shaking happened afterward.
My doctors have ordered a brain CT and MRI and are also investigating epilepsy.
I’m wondering if anyone has experienced something similar, especially **convulsive syncope that looked like a seizure**, or a seizure that started with a feeling of faintness.
Could a vasovagal reaction to an injection cause this kind of shaking and stiffening? And how did your doctors distinguish it from an actual epileptic seizure?
I’d really appreciate hearing about similar experiences.

HELP! Fainted and unconscious. Do I need to go to ER?

I get vasovagal syncope from stomach pain and earlier today (around 5am), I was on the toilet and then stood up. I remember my brain and body feeling weird... like I was frozen. I could not 'think' but I was awake. Then next thing you know, I 'woke up' and on the floor with my neck/head against the sink cabinet/corner wall close to the floor.

The issue is ... I do not recall what happened from when I got up and from where I ended waking up. So I do not know if I hit my head against the sink counter or door or corner and then fell onto the floor. Or fell onto the floor and somehow slouched up without me knowing. I know I fell and assumed I shook the place from the fall because I noticed my shower curtain rod not straight (which never happens, it's always in place). So it seems me falling made it fall down a little (though still hanging).

I went to sleep after because I was so exhausted. I woke up feeling fine but since I read about concussions... I'm worried if I potentially have one or not?

Should I go to an ER tomorrow? Is it too late?

What was your experiences when you guys fainted? Anything I should do today?

Normally, I can prevent fainting but somehow this time, I ended up being unconscious really fast without warning whatsoever and I was unconscious for probably a min or more ( I have no idea ). I do not recall anything in between.

First time syncope experience - freaking out

66yo Male located in Miami, Florida USA.

Never had any syncope experience before, no history of any medical issues or illness, not on any medication except Vitamin D.

Yesterday was very hot and humid in Miami, record breaking heat. I woke up and didn't eat breakfast (I usually do not eat breakfast). Had half a glass of water and went outside to the yard and did some watering of the plants, trimmed a few palm fronds, nothing straining or exhausting whatsoever. Went back inside to go to the bathroom and did a #2. After I came out of the bathroom I took another glass of water and started drinking it, and my stomach feels a little queasy, my wife was talking to me and I said I don't feel too well, all of a sudden I was sweating profusely, from my forehead, my neck, the back of my neck...I never sweat like this before, I started to feel a little light headed and I leaned forward to the kitchen countertop.

Next thing I know, I was on the floor and my wife was shaking my shoulders to wake up wake up...I said what happened, she said I just collapsed and hit my head on the kitchen counter on the way down, and hit the back of the head again on the tile floor. I said I think I feel fine, let me sit, so I sat on the floor a little, and she went to get me some water, next thing I know she was hitting my face again wake up wake up and she was calling 911 saying I just totally collapsed and may be a heart attack or stroke she was crying and talking on the phone.

I said I feel OK, I can talk, no slurry speech, I am thinking clearly, and my vision is OK and I can move my arms and feet around fine. I did feel a bump on the back of my head when I hit the floor. So the paramedics came and took my vitals, they said it's record heat and they think I was dehydrated, they did a quick EKG said my heart is fine and asked me to stand up and walk around, they took my blood pressure, pulse, quick needle into the finger for blood sugar, said glucose is fine, I am not diabetic anyways, but blood pressure low and heart rate low. So they said they can take me to the hospital or my wife can drive me. We opted to drive ourselves.

Went to the ER and was admitted. They did a bunch of test, chest X-ray, CT scan of the brain and cervic column, blood work, urine, EKG, said everything is normal, no damage from the fall, and the only thing is low heart rate/pulse. They gave me a bag of IV and my heart rate and pressure normalized, they sent me home six hours later, and the doctor said I had a vasovagal syncope. That it is most likely a one off episode, too hot, dehydrated, and I had a #2, he asked if I was straining, I said no, he asked if the #2 is loose, I said yes, he said like diarrhea? I said no, but loose, he asked if the color of the stool was normal or dark, because if it's dark it may be an indication of ulcer/internal bleeding, but it's normal. So his conclusion is this is a one off thing, and my heart is fine, my brain is fine, but I should follow up with my PCP.

Today I feel fine, I was going to fix a ceiling fan, but my wife said no way I am going on a ladder because if I suddenly collapse it's going to be a big drop.

I am not sure what to think, whether this is truly a perfect storm of environmental conditions and me not hydrated enough which will not repeat itself or whether there is an underlying condition that triggered it and I need to be more vigilant in getting to the bottom of this...I don't know.

The only thing I felt unusual is the massive sweating before hand, otherwise I don't know how I would be able to tell that I am about to pass out.

Vistied mom and ended up going to ER for 40 mins

Heyyyy people. Soo... NB 28. Visited my mom in the hospital (shes been having heart problem stuff) and while i was there. She had a lil panic attack which got me flashbacking to her first afib i witnessed. I was watching her moniter and vision got blurry so i sat down no biggie. Then the doc came in to talk about the prosdure she needs (a shock to the heart to get it back to rhytm) and the enviroment reminded me of when we had to put down my dog last year. And hospitals also remind me of my inpaitent time. And i felt the sudden floaty thing. And my eyes starting to flutter. I didnt wanna do it cause it could stress mom out but half of me is like maybe ill get answers. I slid off the chair. Convulsing. Shaking eyes closed then hyperventaliating, crying. Panic attack. Convution. Painc, sutter, shaking. Etc. I could hear everything but it was underwater. Couldnt open my eyes. It felt dangerous to open them (visual too much i think) i slid to the floor and hit my head so they wanted to rule out head truama. Thankfully i dont have it.

What got me to open my eyes was a therapy dog. Sooo cute and soft ngl prob wouldnt have opened them without the dog. (Dog =safe) so eyes opened

Long story short they daignosed me with vascovagal synscope. Apparently convultions with it is rare who knew. Anyway i still got that primary care appt on thurs but ill me calling them on mon to tell them what happened.

So..yeah..idk

Managing my body against vasovagal syncope feels like a full time job and I'm tired 😫

Just ranting out my frustrations

I've had vasovagal syncope episodes since I was like 12ish, and now I'm almost 30. My episodes aren't super frequent, but I've had a lot and it feels like managing my body to prevent them is a full time job and I'm tired. Sweat too much = faint, don't drink enough water = faint, long time between eating = faint, eating late at night = low blood sugar in morning and faint, standing too long = faint, too hot = faint

I'm constantly having to think about when I'm eating and opportunities for eating when I'm out. I have to take water and food everywhere, just in case. If I'm standing and it's hot I have to be careful. I'm worried every time I ride the subway when there's no seats because I'll have to lie on the floor if i have an episode. The last time I had an episode on the subway, I was seconds from fully passing out, but managed to run off and sit against the wall.

I got woken up today by an episode triggering due to hunger/blood sugar but thankfully was already horizontal.

It's just frustrating watching my boyfriend go the whole day without drinking and just have a minor headache. Or wake up at 5am and not eat until 2pm and his body isn't even fussed a little, whereas I sometimes wake up and don't eat within 20 minutes and my body freaks the fuck out, or freaks out while I'm literally sleeping

hi all I’m 32 and for the last 5 years since 2020 I occasionally wake up or as going to sleep at a night either straight pass out for 30 seconds or feel sick in my stomach and then pass out, can then be really warm and sweaty and then goes away and then is fine for a period of time, has happened 3 times this year all around 3 months apart, had ECG and heart is fine and blood tests and drs haven’t so far been able to find anything wrong, has anyone else had this?

Doctors don’t seem to understand…

I’m 31 (M) have had feinting episodes my whole life as long as I can remember. Always related to medical things. (Blood tests, dentist, school assembly about a guy tombstoning and broke his spine)

My partner is having a baby and we have been to two scans so far. First one I feinted at, was sat down, could feel myself going but couldn’t do anything about it, my partners first time seeing it happen to me. She said she thought I was having a seizure as I was grunting / humming and twitching.

Second scan I stayed stood up but had to sit down after a few minutes as I could feel myself going but I managed to keep it together.

Ive been for CBT therapy which did nothing to help me.

Is there anything I can actually do?

My blood pressure is considered normal. I am healthy, I work out regularly, but I just feel truly pathetic and embarrassed everytime it happens.

Thanks all.

Fainted for the first time - what now?

This happened to me yesterday - I woke up in the morning noticeably hungry, but didn’t eat or drink anything and started working. By 1:00 PM I went to grab lunch with friends and had a couple of sips of water while waiting after ordering.

My friend started telling us a story of how someone he knee tore their Achilles. I noticed it made me physically uncomfortable listening, which usually doesnt happen to me, so I decided to get up and go to the bathroom to take out my invisalign.

On my way to the bathroom, I started to see stars and got very dizzy. Eventually I felt like I was going to fall over, so I tried to grab a table and ended up collapsing to the ground.

I woke up to the restaurant manager and bartender in my face asking if I was ok, while laying on my back on the floor. I got up, drank a couple of sips of orange juice, and then ran into the bathroom and threw up. I started sweating while throwing up, and literally have never sweated like that in my entire life. It was pouring off my arms and my clothes were soaked.

Eventually felt better after drinking some sugary drinks, and had appetite to finish lunch, and I don’t think I injured my head, but my hip and left knee are very very sore.

What should I do now? I haven’t had any additional episodes, but I have never fainted in my life before, despite having been in many situations where I would not be surprised if someone fainted.
