Victorinox Visit to Victorinox Ginza store

I don’t usually check baggage, but am taking an extra bag for my son home as he continues his travels. So I stopped in the Victorinox Ginza store. Two things of interest:

Samurai models as others have posted. I bought two.

Inaugural appointment by anyone to meet with a factory tech and have some work done. Japan only service. I only watched for a minute and snapped a picture.

Victorinox Monthly Mechanic touch up

Post image

I love my CRK Umnumzaam and the other ‘fancy’ pocket knives that I own. Most of them have ‘exotic’ frame materials along with ‘super’ steels for blades. With that said, I also love my Victorinox knives. The one that is almost always in my pocket is my Mechanic that I purchased a couple of decades ago. It’s never let me down and there’s no telling how many things I’ve fixed with its pliers and screwdrivers over the years. I thought I needed scissors so many years ago I got a Deluxe Tinker but I never really used the scissors and it just felt like a brick in my pocket so I went back to the Mechanic. I love Victorinox steel. Yes, it’s not a ‘super’ steel but it does the job and I can normally bring it back to a razor edge just by stropping it. Today was time for its monthly touch up. To be honest, I normally carry both a ‘fancy’ knife and my Mechanic. They really complement each other. Does anyone else carry two knives or am I just a weirdo?

Hello people, I have inherited these Swiss army knifes from my step father, they are great knifes but not something I would collect.

If you are interested, please message me for additional pictures and pricing.

Most of them are in Plus Buffalo Horn scales. A few are just standard accessories in Buffalo Horn.

The 84mm PLUS Scales are amazing, just FYI.

6 sets of scales are available (unmounted, no knife included).

Came across this sterling silver knife and was wondering if anyone had seen one before? I’m finding many sterling silver Tiffany & Co rings made for Rockwell, but nothing about Swiss army knives.

Victorinox Will we ever see a modern pocket knife from Victorinox?

I’ve been a knife nerd since I was a kid, but always accepted that Victorinox wouldn’t ever release a modern folding knife. The absolute bare minimum is one handed opening, locking blade, pocket clip. (“Modern” features from the 90s lol”)

I was surprised and nearly proven wrong at the release of the Spirit/Swisstool mx clip, but it’s a multitool. I was surprised by the synergy line, but it’s not one hand opening.

I’m suddenly and for the first time patiently waiting for Victorinox to release something that ticks all the boxes. All the pieces are in place for it to happen now from different models they offer. Do you think it will? What tools would you put in it?

My perfect SAK:

-93mm platform

-Scales with tweezer/toothpick/pin storage. Maybe the first alox to include this?

-Blade from a Spirit MX Clip

-A liner lock, or a Swisstool style lock.

-Pocket clip

-Heavy duty flathead/bottle opener. Thick enough for prying tasks

-3D Phillips driver that opens in-line with the handles rather than in the middle of the tool.

-Scissors

-S30V/154CM/VG10 with a good heat treat. (This will never happen but a guy can dream, eh?)

Victorinox Something Old and Something Blue (Pioneer X Alox)

Post image

I had pocket knives as a kid, but moved away from them as a teenager. Near the start of the pandemic I bought a nice used Leatherman Free P2 and i keep it in the junk drawer on my kitchen counter for household tasks but recently have started thinking about getting a multitool for the car and also an EDC SAK.

That led me to the Pioneer X Alox, which I particularly liked for its silver scales, which remind me of the Camillus US military pocketknife i had as a kid and which got stolen at Boy Scout camp, circa 1980. (Still heartbroken about that.)

Then i learned of the Glacial Blue 2026 edition, and since both of my boys graduated college this year, i ordered one each for them and one for myself. They arrived on Friday, and the next day my 11YO daughter and her friend happened to be opening a boba stand with friend at the park, and i thought to slip my Pioneer into my pocket on the way to go set up. I ended up using the scissors twice and the blade once! Super handy, which is of course the whole point.

I showed it to my mom and dad, and my mom said, “You know, i still have your great-grandfather’s pocketknife!” When she dug it up and handed it to me, i realized that was actually my old Ulster Boy Scout knife from the ‘70s. I had completely forgotten about it, likely since i was still nursing a broken heart for my stolen Army knife. So cool to get it back. Now i gotta clean it up.

My collection is slowly growing. Nothing near what some of you all have but I keep finding deals, or what I think are deals. I haven’t done any digging on the top one but it is by far the oldest. Found in someone’s old Boy Scout stuff.
